  1. Will do Vince. Probably spring 2013. I should have a better rear gear by then.
  2. I agree. I love the th400. It is pretty bullet proof for my set up. I would like OD but do not care for OD tranny options. I would love to put 3.42 rear gears with a gear vender behind tranny. Just not an option right now financially, as my wife has cancer. I may just go with a 3.08 gear. Put on MT street slicks and I should be in the 13s I think.
  3. THANK YOU guys for the feedback. It is very encouraging. This was my first time at a track. OK, I have an ATI StreetMaster Torque converter spec'd to the rear and cam etc with fresh build on trans. Now the dyno was based on open headers and 850 holly. I Have Sanderson mid length headers and also had to reduce carb spacer from 1" to 3/8" spacer to fit under hood and 770 avenger carb. I have new poly bushings on all control arms and fresh shocks. I have sway bars on front and back. Now, specs on best run... 14.534 @ 97.083 mph. Not sure what the rest of this is but here it goes...reactions .684, 11-2.437, 12-6.304, 13-9.490. How much time would I pick up going to 3.08 gears?
  4. Have not been on here in a while. I went to the track and was VERY disappointed. I purchased a 520hp 467 from a very reputable builder. I was there when dynoed. I do live near albuquerque and the track is at 5400. I figured with altitude loss and going through a th400, I would be about 380hp or so. I have a 2.73 rear and realize that is not good at all for quarter miles. However, this that is the reason I got a bigblock. has CI/torque supposedly around 560tqe. My best was 14.5. I have posi and lost some spinning on take off. I am sure I could lost a half second with slicks but I guess I need 600 hp to get this thing where I want it. Never would have thought it. Not interested in a 3.55 gear, I like the open road. Just thought the motor would get at least mid 13s.
  5. I do not race much but do have a 500hp bbc. I quess my thinking is, like in transmissions the higher the heat, the shorter the life. I know its not as intense with engine but if I can run a summer operating temp of say 190 instead of 210, it seems that would be better for long term life of this engine? It is a long term investment. However, if the pro's thing its insignificant, I am listening.
  6. I am considering draining out the 50/50 mix from last year and saving it. For the late spring through early fall I would go pure deionized water with a couple bottles of water wetter. Is that too overboard? Has/does anyone else do that? I guess 15 degrees cooler engine probably. Would like some feedback before I commit. The antifreeze was installed early fall last year so I will put the same fluid back in later.
  7. I know there is "clips" or something that holds chrome trim. Does anyone have pics of how to do this? what do the clips look like and how do I get it started, i dont want to damage.I want to remove vinyl top and repair underneath and replace. thanks
  8. switched out my 12 bolt single leg diff unit for a posi unit. Put a hidden kill switch on and new rear shocks and poly bushings in upper and lower arms. Took it out today and really love getting more power to the ground. I was punching it with the 467 with single leg and getting a 100ft black mark. Substantial decline in length now. Next is taking it to track just to see
  9. Congradulations! Do you have to beef up the frame to handle that power? We look forward to getting reports of how it does at the track. Always keep safety as a priority.
  10. Well, it is a street car. I do like the creature comforts fof PB and AC so do not want to go there. Just wondered how hard to get in down to chevelle weight. Looks like its too expensive for me right now. I think a lower gear in and gear vendor will happen in a year or so.
  11. Thanks for the info. I do not want a stiff ride. That is one of many things I like about these montes and the soft coil spring ride. I will probably just get a 1" spacer. I installed big block springs after engine swap. It put the front a little higher than back. I just want it even. 1" should do it.
  12. Does anyone know the "el camino" cargo coil springs #. Is it the CC501? I want to raise my rear a little and am not sure I understant the correct moog part #. thx in advance.
  13. The poly units worked fine for me. Does not seem different from stock.
  14. I agree with you. The only reason I even debate it is because of line of sight. I like this thing as stock looking as possible. They ahve one on "ground up" for chevelle and looks like a fit. I need to call them and ask if the rpm gauge are identical for MC. 160 I believe.
  15. Thank you. I took a good friend for a 40 mile cruise and he was quite impressed with the power. I put new ball joints, bb springs and kyb shocks in front. I must say this thing rides very nice down I40. I am looking forward to getting the posi diff in there soon. It is from a 70mc. I have poly bushings to install on the diff unit and it has a sway bar. I hope it does not stiffin up the ride to much. I have my gauges in except RPM guage. I have been going back in forth between a retro column mounted unit or a removing the clock and putting oem type there.
  16. He is always a phone call away and ready to help. I have talked to him and once I get a few tweaks finalized he wants pics sent to him and will walk me and a friend/mech through whatever it takes. 6k altitude and 2.73 is a load for any engine it would seem. Watch me run a high 13 second qtr mile probably. Just have to wait.
  17. I gps'd my elevation at my house. It is 6400 above sea level. I-40 is 6200 in front of my house. I do get down to 5400 in albuquerque. I have talked to a few racers in albuquerque and they claim it is typically a 24% approx correction factor give or take dependant of barometric pressure, temp and other stuff. So I am probably 27% where I live. That fits perfectly with the correction factor dynoed by my builder. I guess "it is what it is". I will have to find the closest track under 2k next spring and take a road trip.
  18. http://www.aera.org/ep/downloads/ep11/EP07-2010_20-28.pdf This article is about the builder and engines produced of whichh I have one. I have alot of respect for this builder and after driving up to Colorado Springs and being there during dyno and meeting Mark, I am convinced this is a quality unit. Again, it comes back to the altitude handicap. I would more than be where I want at sea level.
  19. What gear did you have for the 12.9? There just peanut port heads but are ported by one of the best. I do not want to comment on the dyno until I run it at the track.
  20. 467 9.1 compression, 230@.050 hyd cam, Edelbrock RPM manifold, 770 holley street avenger. It max uncorrected at 520hp at 5600rpm and I believe maxed on torque uncorrected at approx 3800ish with 560 torque. I have the dyno sheet at home. It is alot more flatter then most engines. It has decent power down low also according to dyno. Just way short of how I thought it would respond in the car. It has nice power, again just not what I was expecting. Corrected at this altitude puts that data in the area of 380-390hp at 6k altitude and then pushing that through a th400 and the rest of drive train along with mid length headers puts at 330hp to wheels approx and that seems right. I love NM but wow does it tax hp. I am thinking 400hp to wheels is where I want to be.
  21. I took it out to ride into albuquerque today ( about 20 miles). The speed limit is 75mph most of the way. Guess i cannot have my cake and eat it too. I could not imagine going any lower gear for 75 mph cruises. It would get old quick for me hearing all that revving. So between a 3.55 posi carrier and gear change plus gear vender I believe Im around 3500. Guess I will be ok for now.
  22. It is a tall order to expect an engine in a 4k car with 2.73 gears to act like it has race gears. My builder thinks even with those gears it should hit the high 13s qtr mile. I know i have sacrifice probably 15 hp with the sanderson mid length headers. I currently have the ATI 10" streetmaster Torque converter. It is very street friendly and stalls in the 25-2700rpm ballpark. I have not yet put my 12 bolt posi unit in yet. It is very torquey in first gear. It just loads up in second and third without the "seat of pants feel" I expected. I suppose until I go to the track I wont know if is at least in the low 14s. I believe the track is closed for winter.
  23. I hope one day to put maybe 3.55 gears and a gear vendor. Have to wait and save for that set up. The weight of these cars make them very streetable with apparently 600 plus hp. I suppose the gears will get me where I want. I live in nm with long open roads and speed limits average 65-75. I wont change gears without a gear vendor. There just very expensive. I am overdue for pics. I will take some soon.
  24. So I finally got my 467 all hooked up and running. It was built by a very reputable builder and runs smooth and has quick throttle response. I know it is built well. I think I am going to be in the 15 mpg if I can keep my foot out of it. It has a 2.73 rear. I live at 6k altitude in NM. However, I thought 500hp/sea level rating would be enough to compensate for altitude. I must say that I think I should have gone for 600hp though. I am less than impressed with power. The BB torque I hoped for is just not there, at least what I expected. I am guessing 330hp at the wheels at best. I realize the gear is high but that is why I went with a 467. Anybody else have a BB at high altitude?
