  1. My parents had a care that had a bad battery that did the same thing. After the car got warm it would not start. Sit for a couple of hours and it would. On a side note on that problem, my mother was pregnant and could not drive. Dad would have to park on a hill and mom and I would have to start pushing it down the hill to start it. Dad got called all kinds of names for his pregnant wife pushing the car. LOL LOL LOL

  2. But if it is an internal regulator since you swapped out the ALT. it still could be but not likely. I cannot remember when Delco Remy started using the internal regulator. I remember rebuilding alternators at Delco and if memory serves me correctly the terminals looked like two I's stacked and my terminals look like two I's side by side.

  3. SEM has a trim black that is a satin finish. The part number is 39143 Trim Black. It matches the factory under hood color almost perfectly. I do not know who carries it but I work in an automotive paint store and we do. So that is probably a good place to start looking if that is what you want. I used it on the engine compartment on my 72 it it looks a whole lot better than the flat black that was there.

  4. Gerson also makes an acceptable respirator. We sell about a case a week of those. They are less than $21 each. They will also last longer if you keep them in their zip lock bag and in the refrigerator. I have kept mine useable for up to a year by using this method.

  5. When I pulled the motor and tranny out of my 72 my son in-law had to take the cups off of the rear U joint to drop the drive shaft. How much do I need to shorten my drive shaft so that this is not a problem when I reinstall it in a couple of weeks? Even when he took the caps off we still had to finagle it out.

  6. No shroud needed with electric fans but you have a very large gap tween the radiator and water pump. I have seen a couple Monte's with electric fans and one guy had a stainless steel shroud made to take up half the space. It looked very nice and he had the stainless polished.

  7. Pulled the motor and tranny out of my 72 today. The torque convertor seems loose after I separated the motor and tranny. Should there be any slop with the torque convertor just hanging. My son in-law thought it was very loosey goosey. It has been 38 yrs since I last had a torque out and that was on a 1968 Dodge station wagon.

  8. I had a 1988 GMC pickup that the axle seals leaked and they did have some offset seals that rode on a different part of the axle. That fixed the problem and that also let the brakes work properly. Brakes and oil/grease do not mix.

  9. Was it a new gun or used. I work in an automotive paint store and cheapest gun we sell is $100.54. Wee have tried cheaper guns but they all caused our customers a lot of problems and headaches for us to send back. I have painted several cars over the last 40 years and have always used a very good gun. DevilBiss JGA suction feed. The gravity feeds came out after I had quit doing my own body work.

  10. We have several customers that deal with the automotive Paint store I work using POR 15. It is not UV resistant but on the under sides that should not be a problem. I put it on the bottom of a lawn mower deck and when I scrapped it 5 years later it still looked real good. It is kind of pricey 4.95 a quart but it goes a long way and can be brushed. When brushing it flows out pretty nicely and has a nice smooth finish to it. Wire brushing off any loose rust/dirt is a must and using there metal prep is also a very good idea. I am getting ready to pull my motor and will be painting the cross member and suspension parts with it in a couple of weeks. I also bought a pint of POR 15 Chevy Orange paint to repaint the motor while it is out. We have only had one guy complain about the POR 15 products and we still cannot figure out what went wrong.

  11. I just went out to he garage and measured mine and it is only a 3/4" spacer. That is from the bottom to the lip where the air cleaner rest. It is a full inch if measured from the very bottom to the very top. That is what was on the car when I bought it just before Labor Day and have not tried anything else. I do have a 1" spacer under the carb though for the vacuum line to the power brake unit and the heater flap controls.
