  1. Oh just some MINOR work to keep me out of trouble for the next two to three weeks http://s270.photobucket.com/albums/jj86/leghome/ I put this link in cause I still cannot figger out how to post them in my post
  2. I had a 1988 GMC pickup that the axle seals leaked and they did have some offset seals that rode on a different part of the axle. That fixed the problem and that also let the brakes work properly. Brakes and oil/grease do not mix.
  3. Was it a new gun or used. I work in an automotive paint store and cheapest gun we sell is $100.54. Wee have tried cheaper guns but they all caused our customers a lot of problems and headaches for us to send back. I have painted several cars over the last 40 years and have always used a very good gun. DevilBiss JGA suction feed. The gravity feeds came out after I had quit doing my own body work.
  4. We have several customers that deal with the automotive Paint store I work using POR 15. It is not UV resistant but on the under sides that should not be a problem. I put it on the bottom of a lawn mower deck and when I scrapped it 5 years later it still looked real good. It is kind of pricey 4.95 a quart but it goes a long way and can be brushed. When brushing it flows out pretty nicely and has a nice smooth finish to it. Wire brushing off any loose rust/dirt is a must and using there metal prep is also a very good idea. I am getting ready to pull my motor and will be painting the cross member and suspension parts with it in a couple of weeks. I also bought a pint of POR 15 Chevy Orange paint to repaint the motor while it is out. We have only had one guy complain about the POR 15 products and we still cannot figure out what went wrong.
  5. I don't think u have to be a member to view. I may be wrong because I joined before I started to read any posts there. I just wanted info from all sources I could find on my Monte
  6. I just went out to he garage and measured mine and it is only a 3/4" spacer. That is from the bottom to the lip where the air cleaner rest. It is a full inch if measured from the very bottom to the very top. That is what was on the car when I bought it just before Labor Day and have not tried anything else. I do have a 1" spacer under the carb though for the vacuum line to the power brake unit and the heater flap controls.
  7. "I have the HEI with an Edelbrock Performer intake and Edelbrock carb and I just restored and installed a factory GM 4bbl air cleaner set up. The only mod I had to make is to use the 1" spacer between the carb and the air cleaner for clearance. It all still fit well, and hood clearance was no problem either." I have the same set as Daryl and it works very well. I took the Holly off because it was leaking and the car was running rough and had very poor gas mileage.
  8. I have not looked at mine to see what they look like or how hard they are to hard to or if you even see the nuts, but another tip I have used for shocks is to take a propane torch and heat the nut. Just a little heat can make it so much easier also.
  9. Andy is the compressor on the AC you took off a good one?
  10. My 72 Monte has had a starter problem or at least it sounded like a starter problem. When ever you hit the key to start most time it would have this grinding sound. Not the kind of sound you want to hear each time you start the car. I checked the starter that came on the car and it looked good. The flex plate looked good. Thought maybe the starter was the so I took the hi torque starter apart. I used to build and rebuild starters for GM, these here things is a breed a different cat, I could not get it back together correctly. Ordered and new PowerMaster Ultra torque from Summit and installed it. Well the grinding got a whole heck of a lot worse. Sound like a threshing machine chewing up a Model T. Took the inspection cover and saw that there were several teeth on the flexplate chewed up big time. Jamey, my son in-law, laid under the car and I hit the key with the bat cable off the starter and the gear for the starter was only engaging about 3/16th". He got to looking at the plate and thought something seemed strange. The flex plate was installed backwards. A new flex plate has been ordered along with new motor mounts. We are going to pull the motor after our Disney trip and I am going to detail the motor while it is out. New paint in the engine compartment, repaint the engine with Por15 engine paint and I am also thinking about sending the headers out to get ceramic coated. Jamey said he had his done on his Camero and about 15 minutes after shut down he can touch his headers. Is ther anything else that might be down that will improve the appearance while I have it apart?
  11. I took the Holley off my 72 and put on a Eldebrock 1406 with electric choke, 600cfm. The Holley was to temperamental plus being bent did not help. It runs a lot better with the 1406. It will bark the tires when it hits 2nd if I am on it, of course the 700R4 has some thing to do with that too.
  12. Just ran across a rear end for 72 Monte on the National Monte Carlo Owners site. Here is the link http://s1095.photobucket.com/albums/i470/dlchase98/MonteRear/ link to the National Monte Carlo owners site. http://montecarloclub.com/discuss/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4708
  13. Sunday my son in-law and I took the starter off. It has sounded like it was grinding the teeth off of the starter or the flex plate. Everything checked out fine. Having built new starters in the 80's for GM and rebuilding many over the years here at home I decided to take mine apart. Well I had never worked on one of these new mini starters so now I can not get it back together. Them things are totally different than anything I have ever seen. So Summit Racing is getting some more of my money. After looking over the starter we took off we noticed that the rubber grommet protecting the wiring was dry rotted plus the wiring was showing some copper through the insulation. Should have the new starter tomorrow and be on the road again.
  14. You can put F-type fluid in the other stuff but not the other stuff in F-type.
  15. Yep Rod ya dun caught me LOL and the miscue is fixededed.
  16. The tube on the front of the Eldebrock is for the PCV valve. I just installed a 1406 Eldebrock on my 72 and that is what the instructions said it was for. I had to put a spacer under the carb for the power brake vacuum control. The vacuum advance is on the left side of the PCV valve connection. I had it on the right side and it now runs better than it did. This is while standing in front of the car looking at the carb.
  17. My 70 Monte that I bought in Sept of 69 was built in Van Nuys. I had to wait 10 weeks to get it because the Flint plant was on strike.
  18. I did get my 72 out and exercised it him a little today. My son in-laws dad passed two weeks ago and they a memorial service today, at least that is what they called it. Got to put bout 35 miles on it and it felt goot. Me thinks I am going to have withdrawl symptoms afore to long and I hates it when that happens.
  19. That two tone paint is beyond ugle it is UUUUgle.
  20. Went to a car show in New Castle IN today. 114 cars and a great time had by all. No trophy,s but did to expect get any. When I get the car repainted my expectations will rise.
