  1. Update: got the tranny finished and installed, went to redo the brakes and had to get the rear wheel cylinders and brakes from a 80 Malibu?? Getting all that installed now and hopefully ill have it on the road for my first time driving my Monte. I'm beyond excited right now. I'll post how it goes later tonight
  2. Thanks for the info Bruce. Not to get off topic or anything, but the pic of the Monte below your message, is it yours? I love the look of the black with blacked out windows. Are your door handles black or is it just the shade of the pic? Any body mods done? It looks great
  3. I've heard a lot of good things about th powerglide. My dad had one in his Camaro and he could bark the tires at 60 mph. What would everyone's opinion be on a new tranny?
  4. I just need it temporarily, just to move it in and out of the garage while I work on it. It will have a 2 speed powerglide before the resto is finished
  5. Well we figured out what the problem was. The tranny in my Monte is not a turbo350, its a 350 lock up. I've got to order a shift kit for it and use the gaskets from it. I've never heard of a 350 lock up, is it a good tranny or should I look for something better?
  6. Update: we went to finish the rebuild today, got all the guts put back in and the paper gasket for the valve body was wrong. Going to get the right gasket in the am.. hopefully she will be ready for a test drive tomorrow around noon
  7. I don't have a set budget for the whole project, just a set budget for every payday..
  8. I got lucky and get a steal deal on the car. The motor sounds great, and the body is in pretty decent shape. It started out my father in law wanted 1000 for the car, I paid him 400 on it then he gave me the title to it as a wedding gift, I've got 200 in the tranny rebuild and new brake lines. So I've got 600 bucks in a running, drivable 1972 Monte Carlo with a 400 sbc.. I think I did good lol..
  9. Any pointers on where to start what to do and not to do? I posted pics before, just now getting it in the garage. Motor runs great, tranny is getting rebuilt now, ac compressor is gone but all the lines are still there. Front bucket seat is shot, looking at about 20-30 hours body work. Frame is good, floor pans are good, inner fender are trashed. Surface rust around rear window, rust thru rear wheel trim area. Any pointers on where to get the best deal on parts is greatly appreciated.. working on a low budget of 150 bucks every 2 weeks
  10. I have a new lock cylinder for it. I know this isn't for body repair, but does anyone know where to buy the window seals? Mine are dry rotted bad
  11. Yes it is, he is a very good mechanic, he builds open wheel modified cars for a living. I work at the local advance auto parts store now(body shop work got slow) and I give him good discounts on parts. So its he's way of paying me back.
  12. I bought the rebuild kit and a new band for under 100 bucks, and my mechanic is charging me a 100 bucks to rebuild it. Which is dirt cheap because the local tranny shop wanted 900.
