  1. Maybe the $ is the big stumbling block. I contacted a local (well within 50 miles) chromer who advertised on Kijiji. I contacted them regards to a rechrome of my rear bumper. WELL they quoted me 600 ish for it alone!!!! Now I've seen ones new (or redone?) on e-bay for 300. Even factor 100 for freight charge and your still farther ahead. And no waiting. Then could sell mine to recoupe some of the $ for the new one as mine isn't BAD but not as nice as the front (which has been done). So I'm thinking it's gonna be expensive and if they don't do a good job the chrome could flake off it on the grill with bugs etc. Too many edges and sharp surfaces. Just my .02 on it but I bet it would look good for a show car. Scott
  2. Which guys in Brighton? Being from the Quinte area originally I have buddies down that way would be funny if it's someone I know...and if you can find a decent cover from the wreckers that would work!!! Anyway good luck and as always pics....pm me if you want with the info I would be curious. Scott
  3. Do they serve a purpose? I will have to see if I have a set in mine. But I think I have a spare or one in the spare parts box with the car? I am not sure which side it is but it sort of looks like this...I really need to get out there and LOOK this stuff over and get pics. But if there NOT there what do they do? protection wise or?? just fill an empty space where you can put your contraband
  4. My suggestion is when you do the ENDS put some grease all around the inside lip before you seal it up with tape etc. This way if any sand does get PAST that it will get trapped by the grease there. Then when you get it back wipe it out good, flush with solvent completely a few times. Repeat again to ensure NO sandy grit is in there in any crevices of the inside casing. All that hard work don't want SAND to ruin the new innards. Good luck and PICS.. Who you getting to do it?? Scott
  5. Glad it was a simple fix thanks too for letting us know. Regards Scott
  6. You can use an electonic flasher in both and you can replace or swap out one for the other as I am pretty sure both are 2 prong units. But I would use the electronic flasher as it is not load dependant like the others ones...but tha't just me. So yes the one above the column is the same as the one on the fuse block as it plugs in the same way. Scott
  7. If you take off the panel below the steering column you can likely look up on top (most) of the column and see the flasher and reach up and remove it and replace with a heavy duty electronic one. If both sides FLASH fast then it could be a main ground common to both or this flasher. So replace it first and see. When you put on the 4 ways do they ALSO flash FAST? IF so it is a GROUND (IMO) issue and not the flasher, but I'd still change out the flasher units to eliminate them as a possibility so your not chasing your tail. Good luck and let us know what you find. Regards Scott
  8. GM used this body side mouldings on many vehicles and most of it was put on at the dealerships as an add on or some could be ordered from the factory. 3M made the material for them if I remember and local trim shops use to put it on. On my 86 Buick Century Limited when I got the car from the dealer I deleted the thin side mouldings and had them get the company to put on the wide CHROME mouldings that matched the wrap from the ends of the bumpers. It looked VERY nice and matched the style perfectly. A GM Canada exec was at the dealership that day when I took delivery and in 87-88 model years they made this LARGER body side moulding available as an option put on at the factory (actually a local trim shop did them like the Camaro strips are put on all the new ones now) Most of these were all put on with adhesive but before that in the early 70's a lot were bolted on or used clips like the lower trim to install onto the car. I have not seen this on any of the factory original Monte's I've ever seen for sale, but that does not mean they didn't do it? Just have never seen it. If some have pictures of it would be nice to see. Scott
  9. Replace both with electonic flashers and see if the issue goes away. If you don't want to trace wires etc. Since it's simple plug n play easiest thing to do and only costs a few $ for the flashers...That is if on BOTH sides.... Scott
  10. So question does this FAST FLASH happen on both sides or just one? If on both it's not a burned out bulb or missing bulb then as unlikely to affect both sides. Common for BOTH is A) flasher but you replaced that. Ground common to the flasher unit circuit. I don't have the wiring diagram but think I saw someone post it here on line. If I remember correctly there is a common ground for this circuit that runs to the dimmer switch located on the drivers LEFT foot on the floor. Do you have any issues with high/low beam on the headlights? If you turn ON the headlights does the flashing get slower? If you hit the dimmer switch does it affect this at all? If only on 1 side then it could be a) bad ground on one of the lights but it should be out or not working to full capacity burned out bulb or possible someone changed to an LED or lower wattage bulb causing a load decrease which would cause that side to possibly flash fast. Take out the flasher unit and replace it (if you can find one cheap) and electronic flasher unit and install it. Any change? As for the side marker front flashing with the turn signals I don't think GM changed them to do this till later. I am not sure others can confirm this. If you want them to be parking lights and then flash with the turn signals (alternate) that can be wired up easy enough. If you maybe putting in LED lights you will need the electronic flasher and bypass using a load equalizer as they sell everyone. Your reason for the load resistor it to stop the FAST FLASH but electronic flashers don't care what the LOAD on the circuit is it just starts and stops the juice to make the light flash. Hope any of that is helpful. Let us know what you find and if fixed what it was....it helps others with same issue. Good luck Regards Scott
  11. I have the one that came with the car (or the one I got when bought from the last owner) but will need to be sandblasted and repainted. Hope yours is in excellent shape. If you end up needing to clean it up to paint let me know. I am in the process soon of setting up my sand blast cabinet to start of a few pieces of my own. Just have to buy the fittings and run the air lines in the garage. If I had the coin I'd have the bigger hopper style and could do bigger pieces, but that will have to wait for a while. Scott
  12. When the headlights are ON all the other lights including the ones mentioned work fine? Check your highbeam switch. Press it on and off while someone watches the rear. I wonder if the ground running to that switch is part of the problem? But I concur it seems to be a grounding issue, and based on this last info is my first place to check.. Good luck hope it's an easy fit. Scott
  13. Great picture of you and your lovely bride. Enjoy your trip LSOB!!! bring back some warm temps and sunshine when your on the way back. HEY it is the LEAST you can do..LOL.. Now there is an understanding wife. Not only does she let you keep it, but lets you get a picture on it on you're wedding day!! Can't ask for much better than that Glad the doggie is doing his duty protecting your Monte till the spring arrives too. German Shepherds make the best watch dogs. If he is a KING Shepherd I wouldn't mess with him!! (same as Police use) Scott
  14. What I have heard a few back in the day do is this. Take the gasket or even make one from a fiber box, like a 12 pack of beer comes in and make your own gasket. Then use the gasket shallac and coat both sides or the gasket maker and coat evenly both sides of the gasket or the one you make. Then let it cure. It will be a rubbery surface but still thin. Then using a very small bit of grease to hold it in place put it on the car and then the housing next. Then tighten down to torque specs. Run the car up to operating temperature and check for leaks. Then let it cool till COLD and start up to operating temps again. After it cools again retorque the bolts and should have no more leaks. That is what I've had a few do that had the chrome housing. I plan on doing that to mine when I install my chrome housing. Also some put the gasket on top and some underneath the thermostat. I have always put the gasket on top after the thermostat was seated and haven't had an issue doing it that way in my other cars. Just an fyi if you want to try it or anyone else. Scott
  15. I agree the rental cost is $ savings and to have one yourself need lots of room to store one. I'd likely (and someday will) do it your way I think unless a total rebuild is required. Will be nice to see (and maybe hear) it completed. Scott
  16. Your right but I doubt they make trailer tires in 12" that are the same design as the bike. I'd settle for a nice set of chrome rims..maybe I can find some cheap 13" of the same bolt pattern? One thing I'd like to do is put in a torsion bar suspension instead of the leaf springs it has now...can do it but a bit of modification required to the frame AND $ for the axles is what's keeping me from changing it.
  17. Seat I bet is comfortable even if it doesn't look to some to be, contour is very nice with the bike. Thank for the comments, yes I like it. I have (this isn't my trailer but the exact same design) polished the front and most of the sides of mine to shine more like chrome. I need to redo them again this spring and bring them back to mirror finish. Then I can land planes with it..LOL... If I decide to keep it may add a small trailer hitch to the Monte if I go to a few car shows for camping weekends. It will add BLING to the display And if I buy some PARTS for Monte I'd have room to transport them home. This way don't have to weight the trunk down with all the crap and then cruise around with it all weekend should I do that...but it needs a set of chrome rims don't you think Scott
  18. Great pictures and nice job. Gonna look real good when it's all back together and up and running. Keep us posted on the progress. Scott
  19. Well I took a shot it was the bigger of the 2 and hard to see when your sitting on it Nice bike, I would bet it's a bit loud with those pipes too. And the Tornado intake looks cool. LePera seat? nice, matches the bike well and those forks are nice. As for my trailer hitch, I put it (Denray) on and have a bike trailer that came from out west (Alberta) here is a pic of what they look like.
  20. Thank you. Yup I normally go at least 1 or 2 times a season and for diner love there chicken sandwiches. This year will likely try to do a Wed night for the cruise in the Monte and maybe a Thursday bike nite. Normally if I go riding (when I can) with the SCRC locally it's on Wed nights, but I think I'll do a few cruise nights this year instead and do a Sat ride...and yes for sure need to get together for coffee. What days are you normally off work? I am off weekends always...I am spoiled Scott
  21. Nice bike Larry, I have seen that colour combo on those very nice. Mine is not a HD it's a Kawasaki Vulcan Nomad 1500 FI 2002 bought it brand new. Put on the fairing and trunk myself and painted to match the bike. Paint on them is not perfect but I'm ok with it for a first attempt and in less than ideal conditions at the time. I just picked up the chrome trunk rack for it so will put that on soon for this years riding. It has been mistaken for an HD before....even when they look close and see the Nomad badge and Kawasaki logo on it still say hey..nice HD which model is it? LOL I have a mustang seat and added the chrome studs to the trunk to match when I got my tank bib. Only thing left now is either another set of soft lowers or the hard ones painted to match. I don't think it will EVER be DONE..much like the Monte, it will get improvements as it goes along in it's life with me. Here is a pic of mine think I've added some chrome to it since these were taken. This one shows most of the new items including the Hypercharger intake and my lower fog/driving lights with the mounts I made. Rear of bike before HC from 2010 Picture of the trunk And my wiring job did for all the accessories Scott Hijack over...
  22. I too can't wait for spring to get in some riding time as well. Just hope it's early this year. And Mark's bike looks to me to be a Suzuki Marauder 1600 M95 with some nice add on goodies.....Sampson? drag pipes, Billet Aluminum Cone Spike Air Cleaner Kit Intake Filter etc. Nice looking bike. I love the inverted fork they used on these and the Kawasaki Mean Streak that came from the street bikes. I have heard they handle very well. Larry don't remember what you said you ride again? Scott

But I think your down Sarnia way if I am not mistaken. Google is a great thing But if you are in the Durham region let us know. Also if your looking for some trim stuff put it up here as some members have hoards of stuff....I for example have a decent (read driver) headlight bezel and some odd ends. But your not at that stage yet. Nice find good luck with the car and of course pics of progress and periodic updates always appreciated. Scott
  24. In all seriousness it is a great colour and Blue is one of my favourites to be honest. Still when I saw this one in the Ad I was interested and it was the first MC I saw for sale. I was going to see a El Camino, and when I saw this and the condition and colour, well nuff said. I think a Plum Crazy Purple Monte would look good if DONE right and not with those hugh rims. Never did see the appeal to them myself? Handle like a lumber wagon and rough ride besides if you ever had a flat well good luck!! Scott
  25. I don't like the colour.....there I said it... Not that I mean it, but I said it.... I know SMART [censored]
