  1. Have you Googled "wet sanding yet"?
  2. Hey Jacob, I did some of my own painting many years ago and wetting down the whole inside of the garage with a garden hose before bringing the car in worked well for me. Once you are finished shooting the car, bring only what you need to address like the gun and open paint outside with you, shut the door and don't enter again for several hours until you figure the paint is dry. Every spec of dust is your enemy and this procedure will go a long way in giving you a better finished product.
  3. I put mine in storage yesterday in a dry barn with cement floor. First, I topped it up with gasoline and gas stabilizer, fogged the engine with a fogging spray, installed the intake vent screens (a good fit and will help keep mice out), pulled the battery, placed some mothballs in strategic places, and covered it in a nice new cover. Now all I need is Spring. Come on Spring!
  4. Hey Steve, can you find out anything through CarFax?
  5. My weatherstrip came yesterday. That was fast! It looks like a well made product but I won't install it until the warm weather comes back. I'm pretty impressed with NOS Reproductions. I ordered a few things and all were in stock, I received them right away, and shipping packaging was great.
  6. The weatherstrip I ordered today is made by Metro and sold by NOS Reproductions in Ontario. I'll let everyone know what their service is like but so far, so good. Cheers, Larry
  7. I found out today that I have 1 of 6 black on black 1971 Monte SS sold in Canada and 1 of 2 that were black on black with buckets. Liam in Alberta....you have 1 of the 6 too. There's 4 of the 6 known to be still in existence...2 of them are in Ontario and the other 2 are in Alberta. Cheers, Larry
  8. I finished waxing mine and detailing it and will be putting it away for the winter in the very near future. I still have many things to do around here before the snow flies so I need to get the lead out. LOL I did order a few goodies for mine today....a trunk seal for one thing.
  9. For anyone looking to purchase mirrors, I saw some on ebay today....a set of sport mirrors as well as a set of chrome square ones. Cheers, Larry
  10. That's a great idea Scott. What I found out last night though is that there's an Ontario Supplier for Metro Parts. Check out... https://www.nosreproductions.com/ It might be best to order from them. Your thoughts? Cheers, Larry
  11. Hey, thanks guys. You guys are very helpful. I really appreciate your input. Metro it will be but before I order, I will check out all the other weatherstripping on the car to see if I need anything else while I'm at it. Thanks again. Cheers, Larry
  12. Hello everyone, just looking for input re. replacement of my trunk weatherstrip. Is it best to spend $20 or so and get the repro stuff or $200 plus and get the NOS stuff? Thanks, Larry
  13. Hi Bruce, that would be very nostalgic but I understand your concern re. the construction. I'm considering taking a photo of mine this weekend if the weather permits. I'll drive it to General Motors H.O. in Oshawa and take a photo of it in front of their building. I thought that would be neat to do before I store it away this Sunday. Cheers, Larry
  14. Hey Sam I Am , what do you do to winterize your Monte? Thanks, Larry
  15. Finished off the first segment of buffing today. I'll be giving a few places special attention before moving on to the final waxing. It is looking great for a 20 year old paint job. Then I'll be polishing all the chrome and wintering the car to put it away next weekend. No snow here in Southern Ontario yet....thank goodness.
  16. My 71 SS has the D35 option which states...."Mirrors: Left remote and right manual control" It does also have a vanity mirror.
  17. Hey Scott...your car looks great! Hopefully, your wife is happy that you fixed her car as well. "If the wife isn't happy...then nobody's happy!"
  18. LOL Yeah Steve, no kidding. It takes me less time by far to even wax my wife's mini van. I'm still at it here....12:21 a.m.
  19. My wife and I went for a three hour tour today in the sunshine. The Monte ran beautifully. I stopped and washed and dried it on the way home and started buffing it a few hours ago. It is now almost midnight and I'm still in the garage buffing. I had forgotten how big these cars were. That's alot of sheet metal. My Cobalt SS would be done by now and I'm only about two thirds of the way done. LOL Damn it looks good though.
  20. Hey Paul, I figure Montes are kinda like Smarties. They come in several different colours but they all taste great.
  21. If it was an Oshawa built car, all he would need to do is write G.M. H.O. in Oshawa and get the option printout package for that specific VIN number. Also, an Oshawa built car has the Z20 code stamped on the VIN plate on the driver's side under the hood up by the windshield....not sure if the Flint builds have it in the same place. I'm sure all of you know this stuff already but I thought I'd mention it anyway. Also, I know 100% that my 71 is a true SS because I have the benefit of my Uncle buying the car new so regarding the guage package, I know 100% that it was an option for 71 including on the SS as mine doesn't have it. Mine has power windows, power locks, buckets, air con, power trunk, remote driver's mirror and yes, I have the load leveling equipment still but it isn't on the car presently. The load leveling compressor and shocks were extremely problematic in their day. I remember my Uncle cursing that system often but if I remember correctly, most of the problems were with the hoses. Is there a fix for them that makes them more reliable? If not, I'll leave mine in the box at least for now. I had a conversation with my Dad last weekend. He is 82 years old and worked on the line in Oshawa and then the stamping plant in Oshawa for a total of 32 years. He remembers that in 1971 he was working on the line in Oshawa in the chassis plant and the 71 Monte rolled down the line in front of him every day. I thought that was pretty neat.
  22. I had mine appraised tonight and was very pleased with the thorough and professional job the guy did and at a very reasonable price. I found out how to post pics to the site I think and will try to have them up this weekend. I tried today and it didn't work out so well because I thought you could just attach them like attaching them to an email. Apparently, you upload a URL and go from there. I understand why....the server issue.
  23. Brian, it's great how we so enjoy our Montes isn't it. Sounds like you are really enjoying yours. No matter what else, all is right in the world when our Montes are shining and purring like kittens. I'm in Canada so right now, our machines being she's, mine would steal the covers off me in a second because she's chilly.
  24. I picked up my new coil springs and insulators today and put my new license plates on the old girl. I also pulled the car outside and snapped a few quick photos which I will upload with an intro tomorrow sometime. I hope to put the new coils on soon but this working for a living keeps getting in the way of me working on my car. I haven't even polished it yet.
