  1. This past weekend was quite an interesting one!  I got an email from a car friend about a Covid car cruise in Creston BC.  Coincidentally, this weekend was right around the 1 year anniversary of  me getting the car. Decided to drive the car over to its original home and enjoy the spring scenery. The first pic is ole Doug Zanders' driveway where this car sat and sat all those years. I went up the  driveway, heard him working away in the garden.  "Hey Doug I got something to show ya!" Him and his wife came down to the bottom of the front yard to get some pics, and a video of it purring away.

As I was leaving I decided to get pic in front of the famous Kookanee beer brewery.  Turning up the road,  I spot another 71ss454 ( I guess they are 10c for 12 in British Columbia) Low and behold I run into Liam and his 71ss! Weird how these things can line up in this world?

Getting to Creston is no small feat for an old boat like this. You gotta climb two fairly steep mountain passes. The major pass to climb is called the "Salcrest" or Kootenay pass. It's top altitude is over 5800 feet above sea level with an average grade of 5% reaching to over 8% nearing the top. Even during some of this cooler weather you still gotta pay attention to that temp gauge. The 454 does a really good job of flattening the hills.

  2. Been a busy spring , even with this whole Covid thing going on. I took  my two weeks off and got a TON of work done to the  car. Fixed some ugly rust on the left 1/4,  got some proper SS tips and swapped out the 8track player. I'm going to send the AM/FM MPX unit out to get restored at Barry's 8 track repair when the dollar improves. In the meantime I got an OEM looking quadraphonic unit off of EBay. Even got the airshocks back up and running too. Just put in an air chuck behind the plate. The original valve seems to be seized up

  3. Weird, I was just reading up on that car like 4 days ago!. It's gotta be sitting hidden in a private collection somewhere. I believe from what I read is that it's only been with maybe 3 owners its whole life.

It was a Dick Harrell conversion. A car that was converted from an LS5 to a dealer ordered LS6 engine, I think the only other things added were the rims and an oil pressure gauge.

  4. Great to have friends with lifts on these rainy November days,  needed to change the exhaust manifold donuts and put new studs in, surprisingly enough they all came out with some heat. Didn't have to drill or tap any of em.

Other than the driver side floor pan where two seams meet this car is fairly solid underneath, even the exhaust is solid.

  5. Well, with my good luck again, it looks like I scored a really good NOS bumper pad. It's got some marks from being moved around throughout all these years. The story I was told is that it was found at a dealership back in 1982 on a shelf. The threads look like there has never been a nut tightened on em.  Does that part # look correct? There is a permanent marker number clearly legible and a slightly legible pencil part number too. I think with a coat of vinyl dye it should look perfect.

I'm gonna keep the crusty one on the car, and stash this one away until the day comes to do it all right.

  6. The 71 is now sporting the blue deluxe seatbelts I accidentally bought from Hector's infamous #montenascarlo.  Few years back I was knocked out on painkillers after some nasty nasty dental procedures and bought them thinking they were black... Naturally, a few years later I just had to buy a Monte with a blue interior so I could do something with em 🙃. I also shampooed the interior which is why the seats look all blotchy. It actually came pretty clean, other than one spot where the material disintegrated from the sun damage

  7. Another weekend adventure, another 200 miles on er, other than a loose solenoid wire it again never skipped a beat. Mentioned before that I ran some motor Medic engine flush through it last week, let it run for 5 minutes, dumped the stuff out, then put some fresh 15w/40 Rotella T and a new Napa gold oil filter. I still remember the demonstration on the Napa counter with the cut out of a Fram VS Napa/Wix. I hope no one here ever runs Fram crap! Anyways, after that flush, no more sticky lifters, engine is silent as can be, and I swear its got more power.  Personally I found the Shell Rotella diesel oil to be the best for these old engines, what are you guys all running?

  8. People are loving the survivor cars these days, had a good teen burger 🍔 and some 🍟 fries for a local car show at A&W.  Had an appraiser approach me was impressed with all the documentation, thank you Vaughn for having that done. I should probably get an appraisal done. Insurance companies suck

  9. That plate frame turned out great! Wonder if the abrupt crash with your wheels being stationary caused the axles to bash the seals and damage them? Now what about the axle bearings?

  10. It's first long trip in 30 years. Sorting out plugged cooling systems, new waterpump, anything rubber, new brake lines, master cylinder, new set  of tires, of course getting the tunes working today. Logged 200 miles on a circle tour through  Southern British Columbia.Man it  was a joy to drive, this ole beast will roast tires in all three gears, while feeling like you're sitting on Grandma's couch. This circle drive is known as the WestKootroute/Selkirk loop. Weather was 90F+ all day, now dealing with a burnt left arm 😛

  11. Hmm...I'll have to repost the two last photos from my pocket annoyance device....Been battling overheating issues. Last Saturday was finally fed up and wanted to get to the bottom of the problem! Pulled to old water pump off (yes I kept it, it was original to the  car!) Flushed the engine out with a garden hose and same thing with the rad.Went to Napa to get a brand new high flow waterpump and some powdered stuff that mixes with water to clean the whole system out. Sitting all this time the coolant was this kind of brown greyish gross liquid and the rad was plugged. I ran the solution with straight water for 10 minutes, then ran straight water through a garden hose through one of those heater hose tee things until the water coming out of the drain and top rad filler was clear again. The inside of the rad is all clean now and it's running ever so happy now that it is getting proper cooling! I figured this car shouldn't have run so hot, being that is has a larger radiator than a CamperSpecial Chev Truck

  12. The package tray was just ratched and throwing flakes of paper all over the interior.  I just made a new one of some corplast and some colour matching fabric I found. Here's the thing... It looked too good for the rest of the original interior! Ahh crap, I ended up rubbing it down with some used oil, now it fits the theme of the sunbeaten, faded original interior.

Just a quick fix to make it a bit less ugly to drive 😜

  13. I was wondering the same thing! This car is untouched and just had the driver bullet mirror

Last night I finally got the AM/FM stereo 8 track from Jared. It was in rough shape, but a few hours and a parts AM 8track I had, I got it up and running! How rare are these stereos actually?

The right channel is playing very weak on this ole girl,  I had to completely swap out the volume control from my AM 8 track, it needs a bit more work but I I have AM/FM and the all important stereo light now!
