Guest
Hey, ya'll--> I just installed an oil pressure gauge in the Monte, and now I'm wondering what the hell it's telling me-->can anyone let me know what is the range of acceptable oil pressures for a big block? It seems to be at about 65 psi at idle (about 700 RPM), but I got the gauge at a junkyard, so I'm not even sure the gauge works right.... Anyway, thanks in advance for any info. ejw71
Believe 65 lbs. at idle is high. With a warmed up motor and a 70 degree day idle oil pressure would be 25-30 lbs. Increasing to 60-65 lbs. at highway speed. Guest
sounds to me like you may have the wrong pressure sender unit? Or it is bad? [This message has been edited by ILL FATED (edited 08-21-2002).]
Guest
Do you have a hi volume hi pressure oil pump in it? ------------------ George Lines
Guest
My '70 454 idles at about 25 psi and goes to about 60 psi at 70 mph. CAH
Guest
Hey, ya'll--> Before the last post, I'd only started the car long enough to check for leaks real quick. Once oil is warm, pressure comes down to about 20 psi at 700 RPM and about 60 psi at 3000 RPM. I never would have guessed that oil temp would make such a large difference in pressure, but I guess it does. Anyway, thanks for replies.
