1970 Monte Carlo convertible project car

Recommended Posts

Clean and solid project that I built, started with 2 very clean Arizona vehicles. Everything that I have done on this car has been done right. I was self-employed restoring cars in Tucson for 15n years and there is no way I was gonna cut any corners on my own car. The car is in Tucson, I am in Illinois currently. I had the car @ about 90% and decided to go around the body one more time. In the middle of that go around,  I ended up having to return to IL to visit my mother who had been battling cancer for about 5 years. While here visiting, she passed away. I have been here in IL for the last 2 years and the car is still in Tucson. It was supposed to be kept in a friends garage, but he kept it outside instead well covered with old billboards tarps. Water never got into or onto the car, but moisture and condensation apparently did. Obviously sitting out didn't do anything to the finished floors or the powdercoated frame, but because of that alot of the body work will need to be redone. But it is still a very well done frame off rotisserie resto with absolutely no corners cut anywhere. The frame is boxed using factory GM convertible boxed sections.....exactly as GM would have done it. My buddy built a total of 11 convertible cars. The first one he ever built was for me and we took a rust free AZ 72 Chevelle body and used it as a donor for a rusted out IL 70 Chevelle convertible I had. He went on to do work for other people like converting Skylark convertibles into Chevelles and such. After I moved to Tucson, a buddy of mine in IL called me from the Jefferson swap meet in WI. He said he was staring at his favorite car and he wants to know if I can build him one....a 1970 MC convertible. I laughed...I knew it was Jefferson weekend so I knew he was there and I knew he was looking at Joe the owner of The Parts Places car. He was shocked when I described the car and then even more shocked to find out that my good buddy built that one and would do it again. Flew my buddy to Tucson, found 2 clean donor cars, and the rest is history. This Monte Carlo is the last convertible conversion my buddy Steve did. So it's kinda neat that he 1st had the idea when he did my Chevelle, and then this Monte was his final car.....Anyway.... Fresh 454, turbo 400, tilt, 12 bolt posi 3.31 gears. The car starts, runs and drives....but only has open headers-needs exhaust. Under the hood is all new.....has new 4 core radiator, all brackets, pulleys, HEI, both under hood wiring harnesses are new, heater core, etc....all of it. Everything new on this car, way too much to list and I have 100's of pictures of the build along the way...nothing to hide. I don't always remember to check on this forum, or my email for that matter. The group of pics in the word doc show the cars current status. $16,500.......Please call me if you are seriously interested I hope its OK to put my phone# in the ad? ....847 544 1937. Thanks.
