MM454
What should the correct red line on factory tach?? The reason I am asking is,I have my dash all apart and I "JUST" noticed I have a 5000 red line tach "DUH" and I thought the big blocks came with a 5500 red line. I looked back in photos when bought the car the first time in '83 and it has not been changed. (Quick note this is the second time I have owned ths car.) Thanks in advance for any help. Mr70Monte
small blocks had a 5000 redline. 402's & 454/360hp had a 5500 redline. Chevelles that had a 396/375hp or 454/450hp had a 6500 redline. It is possible that the 5000 redline tach got installed in your Monte by a mistake or they were out of the 5500 when your Monte was assemblied, or it could have been added before you got the car. Another possibility is the original tach went bad, they replaced it with the 5000. ------------------ '70 Monte Carlo, Forest Green Metallic w/black vinyl top, Dark Green Metallic Interior community.webshots.com/user/wv_moonshiner http://www.cardomain.com/id/mr70monte If you see this car on a trailer, call 911, because it's stolen! MM454
Mr70Monte that is what I thought too. So I figured I would ask others with the 454 guage package to see what every one else has. Thanks, Mike ------------------ My Monte Carlo Page
David Mau
My '70 SS454 has the 5500 RPM red line tach in it, too. Dave ------------------ I'm Just Enjoyin' That Great S-S-Sensation; Diggin' My First G-G-Generation.
KLASSIK1
i believe that they used both as i have one with a 5000 and one with a 5500 both 454SS cars , talking with many people over the years and working in the auto industry makes me believe that both were used for whatever reason plant issues , supply issues or plain old plant mistakes it is 100% possible Leo
