  1. Maybe I bring my '72 stuff and we do an auction? Mine will be a " no reserve"!!
  2. That motor needs all of 40 degrees of timing. 3,000 rpm , balanced at zero. Your going to love it! Depending where your at ,36 just might do it. Rumpty, rump!!
  3. A .510" lift cam? Like 8-10" of vacuum. Flat tappet too boot, that's a rowdy cam for your sbc.🙂 Liking it!!
  4. Well, Going to go back through this carb., and find out what happened. Took the front bowl off and took needle and seat out. Nothing inside it. When I limped it back home, I knew it was flooding itself, could barely keep it running, and stalled at the 1st red light(no idle). Got it home, had to turn the throttle screw 2 turns just to get it in the garage. Checked the plugs, not too bad. CLY.#6 was wet, rest just a shade dark, but dry. Another new set in it ,and a spare set for the tool box. I removed the side sight glass on the bowl (before I removed the carb from engine, gas just poured out. Knew it was something in the needle and seat. So, bought a new filter(can't believe something got past it), rebuild kit, base gaskets, high flow needle and seat, and some good power valves. Have it back on next week, go for another shake down run. It ran really good on the way down to the shop (25 miles, 1 way), and started the mess half way home. After I get the carb back on and do the run, new oil and filter, double checks and should be ready for another longer run, this time 75-100 miles. Boy, with that lower 1st gear, it shifts through it fast!...... going to have to watch that right foot!.
  5. Is it possible you could use a shop vac defuser? Kinda looks like that filter.

    Back at it

All I can say is,Wow! Never seen this done before. Looks like you are on your way to getting after it! I sure do hope you have some help there for the install. Lots of bracing I can see. Do they make the cross braces? Probably all "A" body stuff. She was a little crusty under there at one time. Good to see another saved. You just take it easy, those life changes effect how we do things after they happen.👍
  9. Heck , I stalked this site day and night for over a year and then pulled the trigger and joined the club. That was like 20 yrs ago? Great group of people, always willing to help you out. Member or not ,stick around.😉

    Oil pickup

Just make sure you have a good engine stand. A 4 leg is what I prefer, since my last incident .That engine fell against my arm and my Monte! Saved the Monte, broke my wrist. Oh well, live and learn. I have done these inside the car, like Larry did, no issues. Just got to have room to work. Lining up the pickup is crucial (same plane as on oil pan rail). Just a tack weld will do. They tap in snug, just an insurance as to not vibrate out. Torque spec it out.And remember, plastic sleeve and oil pump rod go in from the bottom. Patience is the key. Take your time, double, triple check things as you go along. But like you said, pull it, then change things that need changed. Better off that way. Who knows, maybe a motor mount is bad?
  11. I have a 1" spacer with my 750 Holley ,and a speedmaster air gap on my BBC, no issue with air cleaner .low base, twin snorkel style. 3" air filter. The reason for the spacer? Pheobolic, keeps engine temp. off carb base. You can get these in 1/2" also.
  12. I'm going to watch and see if it get's to reserve. This one isn't cheap. I'm thinking high 20k. We have 6 days to see. It's an older build, still looks good in pictures.
  13. Wait a minute..... did someone photoshop my car onto the chassis? I'm liking it! Where do you think it will land ? near the reserve? That's about 9hrs from me(through Canada).Maybe we could get Leo to have a look at it. I bet he's seen it before. Google maps says 7hrs?
  14. Those are the same as mine. Good set of cylinder heads in my book. Good for low bottom end torque.
  15. I'd like to know the cylinder head casting numbers. If it's just getting rebuilt ,a nice hydraulic roller cam would wake it up. Maybe a '70's aluminum intake also. You can paint it to match the engine. My 427 has '69 closed chamber heads( last 3 digits...290),oval port, off a corvette with factory manifolds for better low end torque. Has a .467"/.478" lift hydraulic roller cam. They do make a "cheater" style valve cover, looks stock (chrome),but higher to clear the roller rocker. These are used because of the over the nose valve spring pressure these cams use.
  16. Found a little intel about WWII and its veterans. Did anyone know that over 16 million served in WWII, and right now there are less than 500,000 surviving. 9million served in Vietnam, with 2.6 million served within the country. 6.1 million veterans surviving. One of our saying's at the legion, "thank a Vet, it does you good"
  17. Nice!! Man, you work fast! Always liked that color combo, classy!
  18. You see, I need to come up there and sight see!🙂
  19. If it's just the lower section, it will work out fine. I had to do my driver's side.Still holding up since '06. Leo is a lifesaver sometimes more ,than not.
  20. Ooh-rah!! Been there a couple of times with our BoyScout Troop. We were invited to sleepover on the ship docked there.I think was 13 yrs old then? 27 now (ex-Marine).
  21. Welcome to the Club! Very nice looking Monte. Those upgrades really make difference on the handling. Looks just like the items I installed on mine.
  22. So, what's for the rebuild ? I have some thoughts for it. Are those heads from the year'69?
  23. This could be in the works for mine. Joe, you look like it's an easy job for you, add me to the list and when you can squeeze me in!
  24. Good Grief !! It's got Chevelle strips too! " It's just a bad dream", say it 3 times!!
  25. Oh Yeah! Congrats, Nice Monte taking some away from the others. Is that a 1 st show for it? Those are the best.
