  1. It seems these are a "hard find" these days. Jared, I'm in for a set when you have them.
  2. You should have no problem leaving the hood on. I'd remove the water pump, lower pulley, accessories, use a lift plate and pull from the intake carburetor base. This way you will have all that extra room.
  3. I'm 1hr 45 minutes to the nearest one. They have opened up another that closed in '19 , that's the same driving distance. 1 is 1/8 mile and the other is both 1/8, 1/4 mile.
  4. Nope, Just a rubber mallet, sometimes I can just pull and they come off. I just like the look.
  5. I think they were 17" when stock? I went with something that fills the shroud (and 18" does). If you want the "clutch" ,then that corvette would break the ticket. If you want "constant" airflow at lower rpm's, then the flex fan would do it for sure. Make sure you get the wide blade style flex fan.
  6. Hi Tony! Glad to see you back on here. Have a 7 blade "flex" fan on mine ,3 core radiator, 160 degree thermostat (with 1/16" hole drilled for airlock in system). Never had problem with overheating (most 210 in Carlisle),usually no more than 180-190 in the summer. The flex fan draws air more on the lower rpm's.Had this on sine on the road, with no issues. Now, if you're going for a clutch style fan, a '77 corvette style would be the preferred one for your set -up. 7 blade (wider blade),with clutch (tighter on start-up and flows air very well. I see Jeg's has the 18" fan ($97.00?) .Fan clutch is for heavy duty from Rockauto. Hope this helps in your decision. That fan will have very little clearance (good), may have to adjust your shroud.
  7. Since you're in North Carolina, I like the 3 spear style. I can remember back in the early '80's, cars from the 60's-70's had rally wheels and these on them. That's why they are on my Monte.
  8. "Yup, it's fixed". That's how I do it. As the grandson (6) says "I'm a genius ".
  9. That picture from Maple Motors? Sweet!
  10. Hi Doug, Looks Great! I have a '72 . The last 3 yrs, New 427 BBC,turbo 400, 3:73 Posi traction 12 bolt. Glad to see you joined up with us. We are having a Mini- Meet in Carlisle Pa. in June ,and I'd like to see you there. Not many BBC '70 cars at this meet !
  11. Looking good Brendan !! I can remember years ago at the differences as the car came back to life. Every step is 1 step closer to the finished product, 1 fine First Gen !! You've done very well so far, keep up the good work!
  12. They are"a step above" for sure. We would like to see some pictures of your rides.
  13. I don't know, I get my high when watching Nostalgia Drag Racing (Gassers). I guess I was born too late in life. I wish I could be out there working on these cars, making them go faster, seeing the 1st "funny car", the 1st rear engine dragster, seeing all those mph barriers ( and E.T.'s) , broken. That's what I love about Drag Racing ,always striving to do better, with whatever you are running. And today, some of the speeds at only 1,000ft, Now that is entertaining! Oh, and Willie,Dennis , I get it, and I pull no punches!! We are all going "against the Clock".
  14. Heads -up racing is a 1 and done deal. That class is the least toughest because you know how fast your car is, and sometimes a better reaction time on the tree is the winner (holeshot). E.T. (Elasped Time) ,or Bracket racing is the toughest because you run on an E.T. of your car. When I race, I always go full out on my fastest run (dial -in),that way if I lose, I know I'm doing the very best I can. Dennis, I've never seen an Omni go 338 mph in 1,000 ft !
  15. You can find these cars criss cross the USA, Canada back and forth. My friend has one that was bought in Maryland, found in Florida, moved to Michigan and made it's way back to Florida. As for your fuel tank ,sounds like it's from a '71-'72 Monte. Cap the vent holes on each side, smaller tube is for the return sideband get a vented cap. Should do it for sure. My car ('72), also has the "tank" behind the seat. I call it "the mystery tank" because I have no idea what it does but hey, it all works great! '70 was right before the emissions thing kicked in for the Big 3 in Detroit. Looks to me that Summit has what you need, I'd call and give them info. about your car. Tank (if needed), sending unit. Questions, that's what we are here for.
  16. Boy, Now that car looks familiar with those wheels on it. Wasn't someone on here selling the same car to cover construction costs on his house? I still think it was in North Carolina? Could it be in the for sale section of the forum? Nope, Just looked at it here on the forum, it's a '71 shiny Black paint ,but same wheels.,in Wisconsin. Sharon, Welcome to the Club!! Looks like nice find of a '70 Monte Carlo. I hope there are no "surprises" along the way. Did you drive it home?
  17. Willie, I believe they are still doing the Spring and Fall Carlisle events. Weather is always a factor then too as changing of the seasons is happening. I always check with Lutty's before the show to see if I really need anything.
  18. It's showing snow on radar, but nothing on the ground .............. yet. I'm sure the county boys are justa 'ichin', to put some of the nasty on the roads here. I saw motorcycles out last night?
  19. Man, I've done the exact thing others here have been looking for. Came across the same stuff. That Hotrodder's was the closest ,but I didn't think they would put a marine cam in it. Then again, my BBC cam specs are consistent with a marine cam, just different LSA (108 degrees)
  20. I've had my tilt apart 3 times, tell me about it. But, someone on here(MCFan?), posted a very detailed repair sheet on it. Just followed along and it was fixed. Does anyone remember what happened at the gas station ,when I filled up and was ready to come to Syracuse for the National's and the park lock broke and I couldn't turn the key? It locked everything out. Hopefully it's fixed for another 46 yrs!!
  21. Boy, That sure looks good for a 4spd car. I like how the engine bay has the correct? clamps on the hoses, correct air cleaner too. I thought someone on here was looking for a 4spd car? I'd be after this one for sure!.........no room in the garage , I need to build that other building I guess.
  22. Micheal (Mr. Boyte), If my eyes deceive me, it has a 12bolt.
  23. I wonder if they shop at the same place for shoes? Scott likes red,Dennis likes white. I'm not a fan of those sneakers. Scott, Glad to see those rear springs going on your Monte . Let me know how it drives.
  24. I'd like to see how this is coming along. I must have missed this post . A '70 SS with those options would be a good start to restore in my mind. You said some parts are missing (rear shocks, related items), have you found replacement parts? .Man, an BBC ,with a 2:73 ratio rear axle, what a cruiser. I'd stick with the original color combo if I was restoring it to original. Have you any pictures of the car from when you got started on it to now? Nice to find a pretty good shape build sheet for that '70.
  25. Welcome to the FGMCC !! Yes, doesn't matter what it looks like, I like to say "one more saved to get back on the road" . I do like the Crager's on it. What sizes are you running? And who's 4 door Coronet is that ? You don't see those around my area of the country (upstate N.Y.). I'm sure it would make the 2 hr? drive to the Eastern Meet. Oh, and I forgot to tell you, we like spending other peoples money on their Monte's !!
