On the intake, I like to use etching primer 1st, gives the paint something to hold onto. It doesn't need high heat style either. You can also use this on your thermostat housing.

Monte Carlo rebuild thread
420ponies replied to 71SSclone's topic in General 70-72 Monte Carlo Forum
Mortec shows "454,'71-'79 ,2 or 4 bolt , some "CE" replacement blocks had 4 bolt main caps". This is based on the 3999289 on the pad ,driver's side behind cylinder head/ where the trans bolts to. Anything on the passenger side where the alternator goes? Sometimes those are gone if it was decked (to get the cylinders squared to the block). Did you take the pan off to see if 2 or 4 bolt motor ? Most BBC were stamped Hi-Perf. I think only ones were not are the Marine motors(stamped Marine). -
If that wiring is a mess, I'd start with a new harness. Joe T has a good source for that. That way if you want different things in it ( H.E.I ignition, bluetooth, fuel injection) they can add to the harness. It also updates the fuse block . That way,no surprises on the electrical side. I still have my original harness in mine and I have no issues as of now with it. Next upgrade is Fuel injection (Holley Sniper) ,which I have a power block to add into the harness.

2025 Joint Car Club Meet at Fairborn, Ohio ~ June 27-29th, 2025
420ponies replied to jft69z's topic in FGMCC Mini Meets
If all is well with my Monte after the Carlisle mini-meet, I just might be going to this one also. It will be an all "on the fly"thing for me of course, but I wouldn't have it any other way !! -
Welcome to the Club Doni !! Now that car I believe I've seen before around the area (last year)? That color I believe is pretty rare for a First Gen . Looks great! I do go to the windmill car show (Penn Yan ), either spring or fall show, depends on the weather of course. and the one in Himrod, N.Y. ( fire dept. ). Small shows , but a good gathering of cars no doubt.

yes , that did keep us up to date as to where everyone was at. -
Man, that sits pretty high for a 383 car.Not too bad priced though, if it looks as good as the pictures.

Hello to my old MC friends...
420ponies replied to Murphy's topic in General 70-72 Monte Carlo Forum
Welcome back Murray! Life does those things to us. Gotta be strong and come out on the good side of things. Sounds like you have acquired many parts over the years. You're thinking about letting your Monte Carlo go? -
Very nice!!

Syracuse 'Cavalcade of Cars' 2025 car show
420ponies replied to jft69z's topic in Local Cruises and Events
The car show was.... Packed !! with people, narrow isles , no good way to get any "good photo's. Nope , not one Monte Carlo (First Gen ), (1) 1980's, Many Mopar's also. Nothing like the Detroit Autorama, but decent amount of cars to look at. As you all know, it's the people and of course the food, oh the food was delicious !! And for the size of our group, things went very well. I'd definitely go again. -
There is a dealer in Pa., that has the new Dodge Charger in the show room. I do like it, but I'm a Chevy guy through and through, being raised in the state of Michigan, where it all started with Mr. Chevrolet (race car driver). That Charger is going to sell itself ,no doubt. I can't wait to see it in Nascar!!

Must be the "Debut".... I'm liking the 12 bolt and 3:31 posi with a SBC. Seems to be running "lean " on those headers. We'll see what is at the"show"..............do some bench racing.

Good friend of mine has a 496 w/6-71 blower (600 edlebrocks),Turbo 400, ford 9" with 2:50 gears (21.5"x 33"tires). It's a smoke show until you let off the throttle, but can cruise anywhere. It went 11.90's at 112.00 mph, spinning in second gear. You could upgrade the transmission to a 400 and get a lower 1st gear for it like mine. You will like it with that mammoth BBC!! I do like the "sleeper "look. You do know that motor is going to find a "weak link", and start breaking things in the driveline( like 2nd gear). Do you have pictures of the motor in the car? I'd like to see how high the headers are in the engine bay.

Syracuse 'Cavalcade of Cars' 2025 car show

Is this a car show or a food adventure? I'm in for both!! -
Never seen this movie. I like the front spoiler brackets! "Now that's Custom"

Heavy rain, and I think I heard a train chugging by as the storm moved out of the area. The wind was fierce also and lost internet(2 times), lights flickered, no outage. I thought my generator kicked on ,but that was the storm racket. 1 more bad area coming, we'll see what happens.

UMI Performance is generally pretty good at getting the ride height right with there spring set-ups. I went with the coil-over package for my new BBC and my set ride height is just what I wanted. That set-up you have will surely give you better handling and a comfort ride . You'll get the California rake on your car. 1"to 1 1/2" front to back. Classic look in my eyes.

Looks great! So, I can't remember who is the new owner.

Boy, That looks like a great show. Won't be long now and our shows will start popping up. Can't wait until all the salt dust is gone and we can get these cars on the road!

Dret and Joe are correct on the plastic clips. Much easier to install the trim onto. With aftermarket thin parts ,I know I would have had a tough time not denting them as they went on.Those plastic clips were way better!
