Darren.

Sorry my friend for taking so long but things kept pileing up 2 funerals and not well again but hey press on... the fore front ? I measured 4-3/8 to 4-1/2 give or take that 1/8". and the rear ? I got 6-1/2 right to the floor brace edge... Darren. -
Willie, I believe Vaughn bought a complete car harness kit that was everything from both underhood harness's and dash and tialight harness that was an exact repro that was all correct color coded and tagged where everything went and the fuse block was included except for the fuses from The Parts Place. I believe he paid $1400 for a complete set up but the harness's can be bought seperately such as the forward underhood one then the engine harness as well as dash seperately etc.... Darren.

Hey Willie, Yeah I am afraid those are to far gone, that is a wiring harness fire waiting to happen both from the bare wires and the amount of breaks. The continuity needs to travel in full strength in order to provide what our cars need, the more breaks and repairs will drop the continuity way to much causing the draw to be much higher than what the gauge of wire can handle thus harness fire or melting big time. The rust issue on the fuse block shown is also too much and is not surface rust or dusting anymore. The future headaches that could arise from useing them once repaired are not worth the hourly cost to fix both before and after problems and a new harness or a used Ebay one will save time and money..One of our other members had an engine bay and dash fire from old wires that were corrected but not right thus taking a full day to remove old harness's and replace completely new and now Zero problems and everything works includeing stuff that didnt before the fire. Darren.

Hey Willie.... thats better, as I thought In my first reply I mentioned it sounded like you were discribing as red wire with the twistlock fuse was likely Pink in color and went to the fuse block.... IT IS. that pink wire is the main power supply for the rear defog and plugs into the fuseblock. when you look at the fuse block in the middle the center has different shape plugs to attribute what plugs into where such as the access one will be a different shape to the power one and so on. that one in the pic will plug in to one spot only that resembles its shape so right above the Access spot there and the wire that is also pink that is cut is a secondary power supply that could be used for suppling power to the TH400 kickdown switch over on the gas pedal or the grey wire from the maplight on rearveiw mirror can plug into it or it can stay open .... the white rectangle plug in the middle is the other end that pushes onto the rear defog switch.. Pic 2 should come out of the rear as you mentioned up onto the left side or drivers side of the trunk by the hinge that is the power supply (orange) for the trunk light if you had one and the wire does change to black and fishes through the trunk lid skin really awkwardly to the light tucked in just under the lip by the key tumbler area for the trunk lid. Pic 3 is indeed the power supply (purple) for the rear defog no questions about it and should come out the rear as you mention and hang in between where the rear speakers are for the rear defog........ Darren.. gotta run for now Dr's appointment coming up.... PS the powerseat if you had it would be mainly a thicker Orange wire with a black strip running down it and would pop up through the carpet just under either the bench or bucket seat out of the same plastic chanel....

Hi guys, the mufflers are series 40 and the length of the resonators are 14" overall but the actual chamber is only 10"... The guy on ebay had them in a 2-1/4" up to 3-1/2" if that helps... They finish off the exhaust really nice and you wouldnt believe how many guys look under that back bumper to see if they are actually there as so many dont bother to put them on or track them down. For me it was that OEM thing again....... lol.. Darren.
-
The standard colors willie for under there in that black chanel would be Tan. Light-Green. Brown. Yellow. Dark-Green.Orange. White. optional colors are Black and dark blue side by side together which are for rear speakers and then the purple wire for rear defrost. There is another single black wire but thats not part of this harness we are talking of, that black single thin wire is part of the tail light harness and is a seperate ground wire run for the tail lights and is only incorporated into the tail light harness and doesnt backfeed through the plastic chanel harness.. Darren.

Hey Willie, oh boy....... Purple wire that runs from front to back... Does your car have or did it have Rear Defog ?? as the purple wire usually runs from the rear defog switch along with a pink wire and the two part ways buy the plastic kick panel behind the brake pedal. The pink wire plugs into what sounds like you are describing as red wires at the fuse box where the inline twist lock fuse is... they go in that same area, the purple wire carries on under the carpet in that plastic chanel and comes out the rear up to the left side of the back seat when looking in the trunk. that purple wire is suppose to have a female plastic conector on it and then another purple male wire from the rear blower motor attaches giving power to the rear defogger when switch is toggled. The Yellow wire that runs to the rear is tied into the rear tail lights brake lights but shouldnt change to black..When you say red one at front of car do you mean it plugs into the face of the fuse block or the red wire is coming out of the plastic chanel under the carpet as well.?? there should not be a red wire coming out of the plastic chanel under the carpet.. I'll stay online for a bit for a response.. Darren. is there a major hurry with this willie as pictures are a thousand words and would help me help you a lot....

Hey Ian, Unfortunatly I ended up with a standard drone from putting on the 2 1/2" exhaust on the chevelle with the American thunder mufflers, but when I did add the resonators 2 months later they didnt soften the drone or make it louder at all if that helps.... I just shouldnt have gone with the american thunder mufflers.....lol...But at idle and low rpm I now have that exact BB rumble that I had hunted for for years and finally have it and is awesome... Darren,

Hey Robert, if it helps, I got some from this fella on Ebay exhaustdr2n7a he makes the Exact reproduction resonators for our Monte Carlo's or chevelle's so much so I have them on the chevelle and am almost a sales rep for this guy now via so many people asking where the heck did I find OEM resonators for the chevelle. Only to tell them they are repeo's and you wouldnt believe it.they come in factory aluminized or stainless finish with various size combos for inlet or outlet and chamber length too. I also ended picking a pair up for Vaughns 71 SS monte and with me being such an OEM retard I wouldnt settle for any others. Just my opinion.... I also put the SS tips back on the Velle too. I will snap some pics to show you and upload too... Darren.

What did you do to your Monte today?
LS5 replied to Xxyyzz's topic in General 70-72 Monte Carlo Forum
Not really "What did you do to your Monte Today" but on the Chevelle I was finally well enough to pull it out of the garage for the first time this year and really see what the Centerlines look like on it from a distance instead of in the garage.. Darren. -
Here is a wireing diagram Pat and notice in the middle it shows the orange wire cut and taped up... Darren.
-
Hey Pat, yes the orange wire is void it is installed and cut short to a stub and buried in the harness... Darren. Orange was used on Non A/C cars...
-
Hey Pat, at first it sounds like you have an A/C engine harness..? The orange wire on an A/C car will be cut and taped under black harness tape. The wire on an A/C ends up transposing over to a purple wire via a in line supressor that bolts the the heater houseing and the plugs into the blower.. Do you have the purple wire and suppressor.???And is your car an A/C car ?? Darren.

Hey Sean, welcome to our site buddy there is lots of great people here and knowledge too... As you look at your engine from the front on the passenger side hidden behind the alternator there is a flank off the block at the bottom of the head there should be a series of Letters and then numbers from left to right you may need to scrub it clean with a small wire brush.. Anyhow the last group of number on there will match the last numbers on your VIN thats how you tell if its the right engine for that car.. Pretty simple they dont match wrong engine... Darren.

Hey DJ, on the chevelle I painted my front springs with 2 coats of Black Por-15 and then sprayed them with Silver Por-15 paint as in those pictures I posted on your other Frame Post and now 2 1/2 years later no chips or scratches at all... And as mentioned when installing pay attention to the bottom arm as there 2 weeping or drain holes as mentioned Dont cover both as water will not drain out and rust will set in for sure.. Just my input thats all.. Darren.

Hang on even better yet use the plug with 6 inches of wire from Shawn and then leave that part plugged into the dash all the time and splice those wires into the console female plug and then there is your plug n play end with the other simple switch is the male end of the console harness to the male cluster harness end that way there is no soldering at all on the printed circut.. Darren.
