Hey D if your talking about the bulb that is mounted to a socket fixture that houses the fiber optic cable that runs down to the ashtray then that socket twist locks into place in one of the bulb openings just above the Clock in the same houseing, choose either the right side or left. Darren.

Hey Rodney and Bob.. I am going to empty my messages right away here for more room and am more than happy to email to you guys give me 5 minutes Darren.
-
If this is the problem let me know and give me an email address as I have a conversion wiring diagramm and also a fuse block pin relocation diagramm that is color coded and states the pin locations that need to be moved as long as you have bought the printed circut board to go with it. let me know and I can email you the 5 pages.... Darren.

Hey Jason, If you are indicating that you have changed Your dash from Idiot Lights cluster to the Tach and Gauge Cluster and all you did was switch just the Cluster and not the Dash wireing harness and printed circut board??? That will be 100% of the problem as a Idiot light cluster uses a different dash wiring harness from the Tach and gauge Cluster with the different printed circut board, there are about 7 wires that have to relocated and also adding 2 more and running them correctly along with the printed circut board if trying to keep the old dash harness. QUIT driveing the car if this is the case as you will have many more shorts and could have a dash harness fire waiting to happen... Darren.

Hey Bob, I worked at GM for years and Every single Monte Carlo and Chevelle have all the holes for Power Windows or Manual windows all pre drilled already. So every door and rear flank were pre drilled for either option it got, when switching options they had Dimples to be drilled out to fit the other regulators to be put in. Power door locks are marked as well with Dimples, when you open your doors look down the bottom of the door itself and you will see the Factory Dimples for where you can drill out each hole for the 3 required to hold the lock actuator and same on opposite side for the power window harness to go through the door frame the two screw dimples are there you just drill them out and center the larger hole on the middle for the Boot to hold onto. The Rear window holes are way down in the corner of the flank where the V wedge brace is. 3 will be visable tilted slightly on an angle the 4th will go through to the bottom right side of that V brace with a 7/16 socket on an extention to reach through where as the Manual window holes were quite a bit higher up in the mid area of the rear panel... there is also a US dollar size hole in the bottom opposite of where that last bolt goes and thats where the factory wiring harness goes and then it runs up that rear seat area about 12" off the floor and goes all the way over to the other side hidden behind the seat and held by plastic retainers and the same applies as described for the drivers side now... good luck hiding that PW relay behind the drivers kick panel as the ebrake will have to be unbolted and slid aside..... any other questions or I'll go on forever....

(Andreas Help or Ian) I am logged obviously as I am making this post.. and I click on the classifieds and another page opens with all on that page and it says I am still logged in but as soon as I click on a part or car for sale or anything it opens up to that item but now says in the corner sign in ...???? saying I am logged out ?? yet I am not, also when I try to reply to an ad it says I must be logged in to do so... am I missing something here or is this just the way its set up? thanks Darren.

if you hit any of the autowreckers and manage to find a Chevelle with AC they will fit too. chevelle non ac or ac cars all the underdash pieces inter change... Darren.

Hey Jim, Sam is correct Headlight switch is outta the question as he has headlights as you mentioned and the Reverse lights are from the Safety nuetral switch either on the end of the steering column or in the console under the shifter. My guess and a long shot is if the turn signals and others are out try the dash harness plug in on the back of the gauge cluster, sometimes over the years the two plastice tabs that secure it to the cluster one breaks off and does not hold the harness head tight to the cluster printed circut board causing electrical failures in lights or gauges and such.... other than that check the fuses in the fuse block even if they were replaced calcium builds up on the ends of the fuses from water off shoes and can cause bad connections too..double check the centerbolt in the underhood harness that holds the front harness and engine harness tight to the backside of the fuse block might be loose causing headaches...... Darren.

Hey Larry, does the Negative Battery cable have a secondary wire coming off the battery clamp and grounding out on the fender and where is the ground battery cable going to ?? The block or alternator bracket or the frame ??? and have you checked your Fuseable links lately ???? How many amps is that Alternator rated for ??? Darren.

This may sound silly but I knew of someone that had a 70 and his were all pinched and ripped up in various places but were still in one piece for both sides and what he said he did was to buy from his Mac Tools rep or Snap-on was a roll of 3/16 Matt that you cut to size and put underneath your top toolbox before you sat it on top of the bottom box and layed the material out flat and he traced the outer pieces and then cut them out with a razor blade to mimic that same thing in a durable smooth black appearance matt that he said looked exactly the same once installed and was good enough. mind you I never saw them so I dont know how they looked but I do remember by tool boxes did have that matt between them and it was made of simular material such as that ??? just my input... Darren.

Exactly Murray, definately something you dont see all the time. I've had a couple of people take a double take when they are looking and scratch their heads. Its kind of neat and ties in with convertible thing, just another something you dont see that often. Tony that is a lot of hoses for sure as it does block off a lot of engine veiwing too and you can hardly see the extra Chrome things I have added including the Chrome Valve Covers....,and this is the same thing Bruce its a made up Dual Snorkle but is done really well and cant really tell its made up just looking at it. Darren.

Well since buying the convertible I have not really done much to her except drive it a little and check the fluids due to still haveing on and off days health wise but whilst I had a stretch of 4-5 days in a row there I figured I would change the thermostate and got a little carried away as in picture 1 and then figured I would clean it up a bit... besides the engine still being half descently clean from the rebuild from when Gary owned it everything else was Dirty and thermostate was stuck open so that went in the trash. I finally got it all back together and thought I would share some engine pics as it seemed I was getting PM's with comments on the outside appearance but the engine was also wanting to be viewed so here are 3 pictures and there is something else on the engine that is different...? Lets see who picks it out..... Darren.

Both LS-5 and LS-6 blocks are the same as my LS-5 was a 512 block and I put the LS-6 heads on 290's with the larger Valves and ports plus the solid lift cam and lifters that was correct externally balanced the only thing that was missing was the correct Winters allum intake and I was pushing 430hp and even had the Machine shop hound me to buy the heads I had. Came with correct brass sleeves and guides.. So it can be done as the blocks are the same and I still have an LS-6 carb sitting in the cupboard.. But only did it as mine was a correct date coded engine for the chevelle but was not the correct numbers match engine and tranny 4spd which if your is Royce there is no way in heck I would beef it up or change it at all with all paperwork that chevelle is worth big bucks.. As rare as the LS-6 is people really forget how rare the LS-5 is still..That Chevelle you have there Royce is one of the most wanted and popular combos wanted, code 75 with black stripes and wide ovals with a 454 and a 4spd is what people were after it was the top selling LS-5 combo and desired other than the King of the Hill LS-6 that was Black with the Red interior with the 4spd as well was the big dollar car as you mentioned. But day in and Day out I would NOT mess with what you have Royce all its gonna do is go up in value and is cash in the bank as they say and not gloating I have had my fair share of 1970 chevelles ss cars. That is too nice of a car to clone to an LS-6 if its all numbers match with Docs. Just my 2 cents worth.. Like Davey....!!... Darren.
-
Hey Larry, one name for you... Vaughn Peoples..... he has a Classic Copper 71 SS that has a Factory strip pad on the back and I believe a lead on who repro's them maybe. and also quiz him too, wealth of knowledge as well that is by far 2nd to none.... Darren.
-
Hey Larry just a quick note, we have in the past had this question come up quite a bit but didnt get into it with you there last night in the Shout Box but the quicky would be to pull old switch and count the Tongues that are visible then that will give the count you need. They do use both in our cars.... Sorry gotta go am at work and snuck on here Darren.. My guess is 7.

..hmmmm. unless it's my eyes here besides the Seat and Larger Flare as you have mentioned, Does it look like the Thread Pitch is Slightly larger in Diameter ??? Causeing the leak. almost like haveing to put Plumbers tape on the Male end and thread that new line on to make up the thickness difference ?? I know it sounds silly but it looks ever so slightly larger in diameter... Failing that the Wrestleing idea still comes to mind as a Good "Figure Four" lock my do it or an "Arm Bar" hold might work....LOL..!!! Darren.

Yes Sir Steve, that is the exact car that Robert Posted on my behalf... Thanks Robert I started a new post in the same section here as well Steve with more pics under the heading 1970 convertible Monte Carlo....... Darren.

Ok as promised some pics, well lots of them and a big long winded speach to go with it.. I bought a 1970 Monte Carlo That was made into a Convertible with the help of the demize of a 1970 chevelle ragtop. This Monte use to belong to one of our Members here years ago named Gary Cooper, the first few pics are from when Gary owned it and the rest are the Now pics from when I snapped them. It is Code 34 as Troy Guessed so Misty Turquiose and has Buckets and console with A/C and Power windows as well as a 12 Bolt rearend and the clock Still works, thats the second car I have owned that it still worked.. It popped up for sale on a site like Craigslist up here and I started asking around for Gary's email address to get some history and to see if the current owner was shooting straight or not and with luck Gary got a hold of me and confirmed everything inc the cost to do the swap and original milage and engine too. Gary mentioned it is an original 350 / 350 car with then only 51,300 miles on it and now it has 54,000 miles on it some 3 1/2 years later and was completely rebuilt as was just about everything else on the car. I started over in Boston MA and then travelled Way over to the west coast of Vancouver Island BC and then Back to Alberta here. I do plan on putting on the Fender Skirts after 15x7's are put on it and detailing under the hood like I did the chevelle if you saw the engine pics from the past. Lots of help was offered to go and get the car thanks to Roy Bunjes but after surgery wasnt feeling the greatest so I put it off as I stayed at my Brothers Thursday night and then had him offer to drive out to go pick it up at 5am so the journey started after all, then after arriveing and picked up the car and loaded it at 12:30am I started the other post Friday night Saturday am to get the guessing started so here are some pics and yes I am quite happy with the purchase... Darren. THESE ARE FROM WHEN GARY OWNED IT PICTURED ABOVE>>>>>>> It also came with the original steering wheel which is now back on the car and I took off the brand new wood wheel the last owner put on...I didnt like it myself yet have seen other monte's on our site with it and yes it's for sale the wheel that is... Darren, PS. Thanks Vaughn for not spilling the Beans as he had all the info and loads of pics and didnt churp in and thanks Robert for putting up the one pic there until I got the rest..

Thanks Guys, Well now I am home and will start a New Post with Pics and info... Darren.

Well time to call it a night as the first 23 hours of driving are done as that was 17hours each way... Good guess Troy.. So its not Blue and then again not Green so YES Troy Misty Turquoise it is, the year is 1970... Would have been nice in Gobi Beige but Misty will be just as great.. Has Factory buckets and console with A/C and power windows as well and the best till last on the model.....Convertible...!!!! Will post pics when i finish the rest of the trip and home again.. Thanks for guessing along makes the road trip cool when you stop and check in... Darren.... I pushed the envelope to far today and feeling the pain so better rest up.. Ttyl

Well, had my surgery and all was well as of thursday morning .. Now its Friday and not gonna let that slow me down, so i went out and bought a Monte Carlo but cant post pics until i get home with it. So now lets have a guessing game on color etc to see who's correct.. While i am trailering it some 17 hours home and then fill you guys in on what it is and yes its rare in a sence...haha talk to you soon. Darren.

Hey Rodney, Yep those will work and you can use your upper control arms as they were all the same its just the lowers that were boxed not the top and as he says those are aftermarket uppers. you could get those pressed out at any brake shop or machine shop slip them some cash $20 and they will hydrolic press them out and then have them sand blasted and painted but dont paint the insides where the new bushings will go as that thin layer of paint will prevent them from going in as they are super tight... being up here in Canada I got my bushings from Napa but if my memorey serves me right Jegs or Pep Boys or even The Parts Place Inc can sell you those and yes 70-72 chevelle and 70-72 monte carlo ones are the same. I dont know the part number but the application is what I went off of. Darren.
