  1. Hey Bill, do these help.... RPO M35 is a 2 speed power glide tranny RPO M38 is a TH350 tranny RPO M40 is a TH400 Tranny Darren
  2. Bill here is a quick one I google searched for now, Let me dig out my GM books and see what I can find buddy unless someone beats me to it... Darren.
  3. good question Carl, if your going in the direction I think you are....? If the monte has Drm brakes on the front then thats a give away that some Chevelle smack had the monte in the past and took the 15x7 rallies and the Disk Brake set up off the front and poss the 12 bolt rear end if thats gone too and stuck on the chevelle drum brakes and 14" rallies to still sell the monte as a driver car and a chevelle out there has the upgrades... Is that what your thinking Carl ??? my thoughts too if it is.. Darren.
  4. Hey steve, those are probably off of a Camaro or a Chevelle as they could have 14" rallies. The Base Model Monte and all Monte's came with 15" wheels. Darren.
  5. Hey Matt, Aaron is correct that PEWTER interior is rare and the cloth interior is 100% Factory Correct. One of our members up here in Canada has a triple Pewter 72 and is described to be exactly the same as yours right down to the greenish/ silver Fish scale sort of look interior. Not cheap to replace either, Pat just bought the fron bucket seat covers alone and paid $780 for the cloth covers alone without the rear seat from California. That Pewter vinyl top as far as I am aware after talking to Pat is impossible to find so Black, white or even a light mist green to offset the greeinsh interior might be your only choice unless you go custom color repro then that bigger bucks. That is a sweet rare 72 you have dont part with it or let others know if you do here first… hahahaha Darren
  6. Hey Art, your new gauges are what they call full Tach and Gauges. did your old cluster you pulled out have full tach and Gauges ??? if not that is where your problem now resides….. Both myself and Dennis (mcfan) have put in a lot of time into a Great write up that Dennis can send you a link to. The wires from a NON tach and gauge dash HAVE to be relocated in order for the new tach and gauges to work as well as other wires will need to be added to make the full gauges to work as they are not warning lights anymore. This will take some time to do and needs to be done in order to get this correct if not and you try to just ground out wires that are now live instead you can either have a dash harness fire or melt the whole lot together, there are two members on here that had just that and it took me 8 hours to rewire the whole under hood and dash itself which means the whole full dash has to come out. dont mean to freak you out but would hate to hear it all melted or worse. let me know If I can help more or if Dennis chimes in maybe he can send you a link to his documents… Darren.
  7. Wooh hold on a second Vince……… 1968-1969 Chevelle REAR BACK seats will NOT fit in our cars only 70-72 chevelle,GTO,Lemans,Buick etc will fit. The 68-69 Rear seat are too wide for our cars, they did not have rear arm rests like our monte's do. the chevelle / monte rear seat have the 2 inch filler plate and lower arm rest areas with ashtrays where as 68-69 is straight back seat only. The FRONT Seats WILL fit they bolt right in from 68-69. Now the bucket seats are different as well but will still fit and work, here are the differences… 1968 chevelle buckets dont come with headrests and the seat release button to fold the seats forward are on the Side of the seats Not in the seatback in the middle. this is also the same for 1969 except half way through 1969 they started using the headrest and switched to rear seatback buttons.. so look around for those if looking for buckets. it was like in 1971-72 monte carlo where the later half of 1971 some of our cars have the fasten the seat belt light and some didnt. Darren.
  8. Hey Doug,if you are going to install factory Power windows and door locks and have the regulators for the windows with motors attached you will need to drill holes into the door frame panel dimples to mount them as they do NOT use the same holes as the manual set up same for the rear set up as well and the PDL have the dimples too towards the bottom of the door about 4 inches from the latch you just have to look for them (3) as Dennis mentioned. . Every chevelle and Monte carlo came down the production line set up for either power windows or power doors locks and manual set ups for both as well in for form of Dimples in the door frame panels, the workers received the build sheets to show what cars got which power or manual options and drilled out the correct dimples to accomidate that option leaving the other dimples there for later use if needed. For instance if you got a Non power window car from factory order or even from the GM dealer and wanted the factory option added as they called them Dealer Installs you went to the dealer and they put them in using the Factory dimples already marked out. I have done about 20 conversions on both your options on chevelles and our Monte's including My Monte. I have 43 out 45 options on the ragtop and have done all the wiring and install on all of them and also did it when I worked at GM for years. need help drop me a line and I will try to help out but bare with me on a reply as I am still recouping with my health….. Kudo's to Dennis for jumping in and is a HUGE help as well and has tons of info too …. Love those pictures Joe thats a good see through view.. Darren
  9. Hey Scott, yes those two Black wires usually have an Eyelet on them so you can ground them out on the Rad Cradle. Make sure if you have painted the cradle or powdercoated it that you removed a small dime sized spot of paint in order to get a good contact on the screw holding the Eyelet down to the Cradle on both sides right by the headlight bucket. and for the Battery too as Scooter said...... Darren.
  10. Not to sure on the Tilt…. Non Tilt thing for the wheel but they are both Custom Steering wheels. I say not to sure as I have seen Factory Tilt columns and Non Tilt column's with the 4 spoke wheel on it and Both owners I know here are original owners and have not switched columns or steering wheel they say…….. Darren.
  11. I believe this is it Shawn….. Darren.
  12. Hey Glen, Thats great. Sorry for what is happening but at least you are on your way now. Back on Page 1 in your post with the steering wheel and hub and cap you can see how the spokes that run from 9 to 3 roughly and the 3rd spoke at the 6 oclock position the spoke runs down and meets the other one and tucks underneath causeing an unblanace in the wheel that is the part that will seat in that hub I led you to. it has that recessed part in the hub to accomidated that 3rd spoke uneven area and now it will sit flush on the hub when its all put together… Darren…. hope that all makes sence ?

    1970 SS COPO

I think one of the big things here and what might be ? forgotten is the main difference between Documented from the Factory which means the production plant and GM being the Dealer. The Dealer can install and un-install anything and it can still be called a Factory option… Just Dealer installed which is the key thing not Production plant installed. As mentioned in the past you can order a Monte with Power windows in 1970 and then 6 months later go to the GM dealer and have Power door locks installed. You now have as they say both Factory options just one is on the Production build sheet and the other is a Factory (gm dealer) ad on. Still both correct. Now with the LS6 or the 454 4spd stuff like in the Dick Harrell or Jim Brady or whats printed in the 1992 Super Chevy Magazine these guys may have had 1970 Monte Carlo's with a 454 4spd but once again it is not Production produced it is an outside source weather it be COPO or Dick Harrell or Jim Brady these are alterations to give the Rare package and will come with a Build Sheet but the build sheet will be a COPO or Harrell or Brady "Package". I believe you will never find or see a build sheet from a GM Production Plant anywhere that will say COPO or Harrell or Brady Package on it. GM may have worked out a deal with these outside entities but it is not installed at a GM Plant. this is my believe and my 2 cents for what it is worth. You will find a GM Build sheet and you will get an accompany Build sheet from the other business's and thus have a Build sheet as they say but 2 separate one's. Until I see or we all see a Factory Production Build Sheet from Atlanta or Flint or Van Nuys It does not exist except by alteration, no matter what Super Chevy or Team Chevelle or anyone else says. It will have to come from The GM Heritage Center in Detroit MI or The General Motors Corporation Home office for proof…. Darren.
  14. Glen check out your other Post on the steering wheel hub… Darren. And I am running a 625 Carter on my 350 as well.
  15. Hey Glen here is the correct hub on Ebay for sale right now. The guy has 3 of them and has a buy it now price of $55 which is what I paid for mine but was red, this one is already black.. hope this helps Ebay item number is 290857906294 Darren.
  16. Bob, you Wheely think he wheel understand...? Darren.
  17. WOW. Glen is all I can say. I have bought a LOT of stuff from Mike (sonnie 24) almost about $3000 in parts and was never messed around or anything got screwed up. I even referred Mike to others on here and they didnt get messed around either.. I am sorry this has happened to you especially from Mike of all guys on Ebay. I will let you know if i find any hubs still. Just tell Mike its the exact same application as a 70-72 Chevelle with tilt or without tilt. Darren.
  18. Hey Glen, you should be able to get it at The Parts Place or Tamraz or even on EbayMotors but look at the pictures in detail first as you can find them used from time to time on there even if you have to paint it it saves you some bucks. There are guys looking for your hub so you could even sell yours on Ebay to help compensate the cost. I will look on Ebay as well if I find the right one I will send you a PM with the info. Darren.
  19. This is the 4 spoke I have in my Monte Glen and it also uses the exact same Hub Mounting kit I described to you and is also on a Tilt Column as well if you look close and you can see how short it is and how it sleeves over the column as if there is no join.. Darren
  20. Here you go Glen, Look real close at picture number one you can see how much shorter this hub is and that it is also tapered plus when looking at the picture you can see how the hub is recessed from the 10 o'clock area to the 2 o'clock area so slightly. That allows your wheel to seat as they say into the hub because the back of the steering wheel should look over lapped in metal where is seats into the hub. Picture two you can see how on the backside of the hub it also has a recessed lip all the way around the outside …that part is what slides over your steering column to make it look like its sleeved and fits perfect. when you look at your it doesnt do that. And last Picture three shows you how short (stubby) the hub is actually meant to be and you can see how it it also on a taper (angle) rather than round looking as your is….. Sorry to be a bearer of bad news my friend.. PS. also on a Tilt column as I mentioned the horn pin is slightly longer to accommodate the column moving up and down in order for the horn to still work in any position. Darren
  21. Glen I have some bad news for you my Friend, That Hub Kit you have is WRONG… its for older GM vehicles . I will try to post pictures of the right one. to describe it is a little harder to do, also a Tilt steering column has a different horn kit than a non tilt wheel. The correct hub will be shorter and more tapered and the steering wheel when you screw it onto the hub it sits in a small indent in the hub itself to add more secure fit and will also look and fit better than the one you have. I know this as I have a Comfort grip wheel and have installed lots of them on FGMCC members cars up here and also working at GM for years you know what you are looking at after a while…. stay tuned for the pictures of correct stuff for your comfort grip wheel… Darren
  22. Hey Daryl, Here a couple of pictures of Factory GM rear Courtesy lights in my 1970 Convertible Monte. They were only availible in convertibles like the chevelle, buick, cadillac, gto, and olds etc… But you could put them into a hardtop as they plug into the dome light harness in the trunk area. They can be found complete sometimes on Ebaymotors.. Darren. sorry poor quality pics but you can see them and get the point….
  23. Hey Murphy, looks great I hope this help my friend…… I am so glad to be back posting again….. Darren.
  24. Now that is waaaaaaayyyy better Murphy. Sam,Dennis and Matt go back to page 5 on this posting and see the position of the mounting bracket and how High Matt's shifter sits compared to Murphy's……. That was my whole concern and take notice how short and the correct length of tail housing. As mentioned before Matt I would hate to see you sink a whole bunch more money into what you are trying to accomplish but that set up you have and tranny with tailshaft wont work my friend for what you are trying to accomplish as you told me you want the factory look. Murphy has the ideal set up if you still really wanted a Hurst shifter but its mounted with the correct plate and correct tranny complete front to back. Dennis I think even with Matt finding the right mounting plate it still wont work for him based on the fact of the mounting holes in the side of the tailshaft. when you look close at Murphy's you see even for the Hurst set up it still requires 2 out of the 3 upper bolt up holes and Matt's still only has the 1 mount hole so even the right bracket wont help as that tailshaft does not provide mounting holes to accommodate it……..And Thats the Bottom Line Cause I said so and not Steve Austin…… hahaha to much wrestling I guess……. Darren.
