    Old GM Pics

Just had these on in a file and thought I would put them here for all to see, nothing special just Old GM Pics.. Darren.
  2. About 30 miles outside of Golden BC Jordans HEI Distributor melted the inside Dist cap and burnt the rotor pretty bad so that ride was done for a couple of hours Vaughn managed to get a distributor in Golden after a Power Failure allowed the store to reopen. Liam shut his car off in Vernon for a quick stop and wouldn't start again without a boost but had plenty of power......I think Kevin's starter issue bounced to Liams car... hahaha all home now though... Darren
  3. I am running the exact same as Vaughns.......... 331's in the 12 bolt with my 402 and M20 4speed. Up to 70 miles an hour and she drones looking for another gear. but 70 for me and she cruises just right. Darren.
  4. Mr King, Bare with me while I dig that out for you I have the info in one of my books and even a picture to go with it. Yes it does light up with a single 194 bulb in a Socket that would be the same socket as the one on the Fiber optics on a Washer Monitor system at the top of the Bottle. It is NOT the same black socket that we use in our dash Clusters... Stay Tuned.. Darren.
  5. Here is part 2 of the safety nuetral switch.... this actually is the Safety part as the clutch has to be depressed and the other part or part 1 is the reverse light activator. and this is where it mounts on the pedal assembly... Very Fragile and can snap easy... Darren.
  6. Well here we go with the differences, I hope the pictures turn out ok and not so blurry. first steering column is a 4spd column, please note how Short the selecter prong is on the 4spd one The second column and sorry about tiny picture but notice how much longer the selecter prong is... this is a floor shift automatic column. first Safety switch is actually part 1 of 2 pieces and is for a 4spd car and in actual size its only a 1/4 the size of that of the automatic one. second picture is the automatic Nuetral Safety Switch and is far different and huge when compared to the 4spd one side by side Hope that helps with the difference in columns.. Darren.
  7. oh also forgot......... you need to get 4 Speed Tires for the car as well. they are different than automatic tires. 4spd back tires seem to wear out 3 times faster........... Darren.
  8. Did you miss the Transmission Crossmember... 4spd is different than an automatic Reverse Lock out Bar as well........ E Brake cable.. center pull and mid cable is different than a automatic. steering column plate for firewall, different than an auto as it has clutch rod hole in it. Floor shift steering column is for an automatic, a 4spd column is different yet again than that of an automatic. ah......there is sooooo much more than first anticipated .... Darren.
  9. Well so far so good for Health, pain has subsided now or levelled out somewhat and get my Chemo shot 3 days before we leave and have all my Meds I will need.... good thing we have big trunks in our cars, hahahaha. Got the Engine Bay detailed but takes a while, leaning over for too long is not a good thing especially when you go to stand straight and you get soooo light headed you just about fall over.....dam meds... anyhow counting down the days and am super glad to be going and having lots of members driving with incase.... Darren.
  10. You can order one from The Parts Place Inc or Year One. The 4speed cable from a 1968-1972 Chevelle will work the same on our cars. The Tranny end will have the threaded collar on it and the dash will have the bevelled collar so the lock retainer will clip onto it.. Darren.
  11. Took both kids out today for a short spin and enjoyed the weather... finally spring is here... Darren.

    Dash Emblem?

Hey Ben, if you are refering to the extra holes or more holes than normal on the underside of your dash housing and the marks left there or worn in ? My suggestive answer only because of working for gm for so long would be that if your car did not come with Factory AC , GM offered what they called Dealer Installed AC units in 2 differnt styles. 1 would be what looked like an oversized underdash heater box that was actually AC on demand and the hoses ran through the firewall to a compressor that was belt driven and mounted on the front of the engine like the Alternator but smack dab in the middle usually by the water pump. The second Dealer installed unit sat under the dash by the ashtray but the vents were friggin wide units that required extra mounting holes drilled into the dash as what yours appears to have the full width of the dash and the ac vents bolted there and were never installed correctly at the best of times and when they operated they vibrated and may cause the marks you see. Your Monte at one time might have had Underdash air and someone removed it after a dealer installed it for a previous owner ? Thats my guess and would go along with what those holes appear to be as the Factory AC didnt use that many holes for the vents they used. I had 2- 1970 chevelles that had Dealer Installed AC underdash units in them and a 71 skylark as well and the holes were all in the same place. Vaughns son has a Monte carlo that had a Dealer installed AC unit as well in it that was the full width of the dash and will be at the Western Meet this year. Darren.
  14. This is the one thing Vaughn didnt have to clear up from his post because its a given. Keith will keep us up all night.......hope its not all 4 nights in a row...hahaha Darren.
  15. I second that..... when I was working on the 4spd it was like I had Turrets all of a sudden..... Yeah thats what it was..... so does that mean I am excused...??
  16. Try Ebaymotors search under Members ID or Seller of Sonnie24 He sells lots of Chevelle and Monte Carlo stuff including full Tach and Gauge set ups for our cars and chevelles too. There are quite a few members from FGMCC that have bought from him in the past including myself about 20 times or so.. Darren.
  17. That Last part Griff, you need to get all over that with the Police. If they write it as a "No one at Fault" then his insurance company is going to say Goodbye and be done with your insurance company. Basically the police are making a call based on no judgement. Someone has to be found at fault especially when there is Damage over a $1000. Liability has to be established. A No Fault Found claim can leave YOU with ZERO.... even your insurance company can then say there is no liability on anyones part even their own and dont have to pay to fix it except you on your own out of your pocket. Heck even if they say it was Your fault then Liability has been established and your insurance company now has to pay out of the "Specified Perils" clause which in this case is Collision Coverage. If you have any injuries such as whiplash or chronic pain needing medication then Section B of your insurance will cover the costs as well and then seek a refund from Buddys insurnace company if he was at fault. Real important to get or for the Police to determine Who was at Fault. if they say no one you can be left out in the cold as they say and no one has to pay insurance wise... Look at your Witness Statement that you must have wrote, see if you wrote in your own words that you found fault in the other driver and why.... if thats there and you can get the police to see it that way based on that info and where the accident was and what resulted in it then you have now established Fault and it has to be covered by someone. An accident just doesnt happen there has to be a reason for it or Liability... Keep at them Griff and keep your cool maybe they will side with you. as soon as they write down Liabilty for the accident was found to be the resposability of ........... then you have it made. someone is now going to have to cough up money from one insurance company. Darren.
  18. Hey Griff, there are a bunch of things that are going to happen here that you will need to think about... The insurance company will for sure Write The Vehicle Off, sighting what they think in their opinion is the car is not worth repairing due to age and what they think the value is. next they will make you an offer and never accept the first offer and remember when they make you an offer that means THEY own the car afterwards.... You have to use the words " I am interested in The Salvage and want to retain it " thus meaning what ever they pay you out it must include you keeping the car. Different States in the USA my not let you re-title a car that now is branded Written Off or Salvage so you may end up buying another monte and using your parts on it. Whatever you do dont assume anything and try to stick to your guns money wise. You may have to get either 3 estamates on what repair costs are going to be in the rare off chance they will fix it but on the other hand try to find your exact same monte within milage and options and all around the same price and submit that saying in your eyes thats what your car is worth or if they want to replace yours thats what its going to take money wise. They will try to say we will go Black Book Value which is $700 and thats a joke and then they may offer you $5000.... if that haoppens just say " you try to find my car exactly in the shape it was before the accident for $5gs....if you cant then tell them to up the anti or get you the car themselves... that will let them know you cant be pushed around.... My dad was a Top Loss adjuster up here for years and pretty much what I wrote just now was what he was saying I just typed it out.... Good Luck.. Darren.
  19. I also agree with Sam, you can keep the factory look with the shifter handle being Muncie and cutting the bottom piece off and drilling new holes so they line up on the Hurst Shifter body and no one will know but you. And yes WAAAAYYYYY better for shifting its like day and night between the two. Darren.
  20. Well frustraiting as heck try to come up with a Vendor that actually knows and sells the correct item...grrrrrrrrrrrr. we all know the difference in length from the 1970-72 Chevelle to the 1970-72 Monte Carlo and the fact its from the Firewall Forward or more correct would be to say from the firewall to the upper A arm is the first increase in length and then after the upper A arm on the frame to basically the end of the frame horns or in this case the Battery Tray as it still bolts on the front Rad craddle which is attached to the frame horns. Anyways, both Year One and OPG are convinced their spring ring cables for the 1970 Chevelle BB cars are the same length for my 402 4spd car. I knew basically they were not but like a Meathead I went and bought sets from each after each other and finding yep way to short...... about 6.3 inches to short on the Positive cable when run correctly and then 3.2 inches to short on the negative cable hence the monte being 6.3 inches longer than the 70 chevelle overall ....... Here is the email I sent asking and giving a description in detail as to why and what I needed before I buy from the 3rd guy.... Hi guys, here is my question and problem. I have a 1970 monte carlo 402 4spd car. I have been trying to buy the original style Spring Ring top post battery cables for it. I have been told and also know working at GM for 18 years in the past that the 1970 Chevelle SS cables are the same length ??? as you guys know the Monte carlo from the firewall forward is 6.3 inches longer than the chevelle, so the 2 sets of cables I have bought already from 2 other companies have both said the 1970 chevelle is the same so I bought them and yes Both sets are too SHORT. even the negative cable was short too as when bolting to the Alt bracket the battery sits 3.2 inches further ahead than the chevelle so it wont reach. and the positive cable is 6.3 inches to short as the monte frame got longer 3 inches before the upper control arm and from the firewall and then got another 3.2 inches longer after the upper control are to where the battery try is. so both cables end up being to short. Do you guys sell Both Correct spring ring cables for my BB Monte Cralo ?? thanks for your help Darren Bull. The reply I got back was....... " Hey Darren just buy the 1970 Chevelle SS cables they are the same length" can you say hello stupid did you read my email at all or just sift through it real quick.... grrrrrrrrrr. anyone of our members had any luck buying spring ring cables for our first gens and actually got the correct ones ??? always nice to vent.. hahaha Thanks Darren.
  21. Took the 4spd out today and decided to go for a drive as My health has kept me at bay as most of you know and went to a show n shine about 45 minutes away and figured what the heck I will stay and make it a day and registered the Monte in the show and the Unmodified/OEM catagory. walked around and saw some great GM's there. had a bite to eat and waited until the awards and then headed out but was surprised to WIN the Best OEM/Unmodified award!!! got me some goodies and a free oil change at Mr Lube and free entry for next year...... Man I like going to these shows... hahaha. just got to get myself Fully Restored now, find an after market Kidney and finish the Chemo and good to go..... Darren..... PS, MR King your Monte is looking awesome,,,, love the Cowl Hood on it..
  22. Sam is correct, it is a resistor. the armatures pass through that single wire that is wrapped around the pressboard tube same material we used at school with a Bunson Burner that doesnt burn. The wire is spaced so the current passes through it but not close enough on the spool that the wire would melt together. The armature passes through there in a constant current rather than a pulse. When the tube and wire break its done. The tube is a non conductive and non burning material, armatures are different than amps or volts. The armature is the Power sort to speak, it travels to the pump relay. The 12 volts our cars runs on via the voltage regulator goes to the wiper motor and branches off through a condenser feeding the armature that passes through the resisitor. Darren.
  23. SIR........ you cant be talking about Sam..... ? Sam did you hear what Scott called you after you helped him out.......!!! Darren. PS I have bought lots directly through In-Line Tube and every part was great and fit exactly both on the Monte and Chevelle..
  24. Hey Steve, when you remove the plastic panel that covers the steering column look up and above the steering column and you will see the Metal upside down U shape brace that runs from drivers side to passenger side of the dash. As you are laying down looking up the passenger side will be on your left and drives door on your right just for bearing purposes..... on the Left side of the bracing that is coming downwards it slopes towards the Factory radio, the Flasher unit will be tucked up in there between the radio and that curved part of the Brace above the steering column. sometimes its just pushed up in there or sometimes they have a C tention clamp that will hold the flasher in place. You can slide it out of the clamp or wiggle it back and forth as you pull gently and the flasher will pull out with the as mentioned by Doug the Pink and purple wires. Hope that detail makes sence......? Darren.
  25. WOW 3 Months to go ...yahoo.!!!!! Darren.
