Good luck with those rims Warren....12 inches might be tough and notching the frame is the only way I think? as I just by the skin of my teeth got these 10 inchers on the back of the chevelle and its rear quarter bulges more than the Monte... Darren.

Looks Great so far John, and so rewarding to I bet knowing there is way more metal than you thought on the panels. Are staying with the same green or a color change??? keep it up buddy... Darren.

Hey Ken, There is a company Called Wheel Vintiques that make our wheels and chevelle wheels on reproduction and sell them in 15x8's and 15x10's and I think even the wide ones you have. they also reproduce the trim or beauty rings for those big rims too to fill in that gap that you see where the ring ends and the basket section where the rim bolts on. They Have Wheel Vintiques in the US and way over here in Calgary they should have a dealer out there in Toronto or Burlington or Ottawa??? Darren.

Ok, this may sound stupid but it can and has happened to even a tech I know, He put in a new rad and thermostate and the same thing happened with his 396 he started to smoke white which was the intake blew a gasket and then the same heater hose right at the intake there behind the Alt bracket.. Low and behold this Tech had stuck the new thermostate in UPSIDE Down, stopping the thermo from openeing and blowing out the hose due to back pressure and most likely the intake as well, not to say it didnt help that one rad hose was cold and the other was hot that would have been to simple to catch but it did happen. Not saying that is what is wrong here but mistakes can happen or as mentioned even new thermostates can stick shut as well... Darren.

Hey Jeff, Time for the Chevelle guy to chime in with some numbers to help as well here... From my days at GM there was supposedly only 9 pairs or 18 single Alluminum heads made and actually sold by GM back in the day but no documention has been recorded by them BUT and this is a big but I have seen personally a Yellow COPO 1970 Chevelle SS LS-6 car with them on and completely done and resold at Barrett Jackson with a build sheet showing the heads on it but not info retained by GM go through and sold the car 2 years ago for a whopping $203,000USD the owners name was John Hill of Calgary Alberta Canada who now resides in Pheonix AZ. VERY rare and you are right there were NO LS-6 cars sold with A/C it didnt happen just like a 454 4spd Monte Carlo, never happened. That Air Cleaner is ULTRA rare once again the last one sold in that shape with the obvious hidden marks so you knew it was real or not sold for $3128.00USD on Ebaymotors about 4 years ago and only came on NON functional Cowl Induction Hooded cars, they had the Cowl Dome hood but called them Fresh Air hoods only. So the % rate is ridiculous on those heads seeing how 18 were made and in 1970 they made 311,553 chevelle units made altogether. I know take a breathe..... I got myself all worked up. Basically saying your right so far and keep going with the Monte it is going to be Awesome when she is done... Darren. -
Hey DJ, I have a whole book/Binder full of the complete Factory assembly Manual for the 70 Chevelle/Monte Carlo and tons of pictures and all GM part numbers in it includeing NLA or discontinues items such as Air ride and fiber optics etc, the book is thicker than the Yellow pages so a good 4 inches..Let me know if you need any info I can scan and email them off.. Darren.

Thats Kind of what I was pictureing it was looking like...WOW.. so far so good but I dont think I would want to undo those bodymounts while she is in that position...LOL... I wish I had one of those when I did the Chevelle, man I had to use 2 engine hoists and 4ft saw horses to get the body off and high enough to roll out the chassis with tires still left on. I would imagine the frame is going off to get sandblasted after that?? Yeah I think all you would have to do is that E brake cable and the bodymounts and then she is good to lift.. Darren great work so far eh...!
-
Hey Warren, does this help..??? you just have to look and overlook the Conv, and stationwagon stuff and go with the chevelle and Monte ones.... Going from memory from when I saw your monte you should have the E Brake cable in the drivers bottom corner there coming up through the frame and going into the firewall very low in the corner and that HAS to come out of there before removal and a small hose clamp around the tindle fingers to squeeze them all at once to get it out helps, The fuel tank even though removed will still have a single black wire that is tiny screwed into the body floor unless cut will tie into the tank wireing that feeds through the rear frame crossover and into the trunk area behind the bumper. That should be it based off what I saw there bareing mind that you have now since pulled the negine and tranny if not that tranny stuff will have to be undone that goes up the firewall as that was a bench seat car right.??? ..... Darren.

Keith I think they are different and more geared towards the years as and If I am wrong someone will chime in the 1970 is shaped different on the outside edges due to the fenders being diff to from 70-72 right where they bolt onto the rad support and also due to each year being different as the park lights are in different places for all 3 years and I think the rad support is shaped with that in mind.... and yes the Chevelle ones WONT work..... Darren.

Jeff, I sent you a couple PM's Darren -
Hey Sonny, If it's that small round retainer tube that you are looking for, then you can hit any wrecker and find a GM or Pontiac back from basically 64 to 77 I believe like the chevelle , cutlass, buick, lemans as they all used the same brake pedal and had the same retainer clip but make sure to grab the brake one and not The cruise control one that will be right beside it if the car has it as they are smaller in size and will fall through the hole....' Darren.

Hey Jacob , what sort of issues are you haveing?? Or are you thinking of pulling all the wireing and getting it cleaned up and re-installing the whole thing or.?? The wiring in our Monte's / Chevelles all come apart in sections from the engine compartment to interior to trunk and gas tank/ tail lights.. Where we're you wanting to start? Basically just asking for more info..yes there is a reason for each color wire and what they are for in each se Section of wireing harness for instance in the forward engine harness there is a light blue wire which is singled out for turning signals and then another light blue used in the wiper motor harness. So it can get confusing when the same color is used in 4 different sections of our harnesse's. Couple more for instance would be purple for ignition and tan for lights and black and white for amp gauge. So on and so forth. Yes lots to learn and memorize as Rod mentioned can be a pain but at least they are all color coated and not like a foreign trucks harness like "Hino" trucks where every wire is white and that's a nightmare...

Yeah Kevin, your right I forgot about Tim.. He does know a lot about these trannys...good call. Darren.

Hey John, I am running the same as Rob has mentioned...Even though I have a Big Block you cant tell its aftermarket as it blends right in and has a Stock Oem appearance and I have no problem at all with either dist or Coil set. I peeled the pertronix sticker off the coil and it resembles the stock black appearance also with no decals. Darren.

Morning Sam, I got all my stuff for the M-21 from a guy Stateside there off of Ebay, I think he goes by Mr Muncie...let me take a quick look I'll edit this after...His prices were good and hade everything I needed and all was original GM and fit perfect and was balsted and coated which save me $$ and time... Darren. Hey Sam. His name is Bruce, I spoke to him quite a few times from up here in Canada, real nice guy easy to work with and his Ebaymotors ID is Teammuncie... hope that helps as you know when I was contacting you on this set up I was haveing a heck of a time finding parts but not now...
-
Hey Guys, I got mine from Year One and paid $229 for the pair, yes they are for a chevelle 1970 to be exact but Vaughn bought the exact same pair as mine and installed them in his monte and fit like a glove he said as did mine if that helps.. Darren.
-
Aaron, you wont be in a hurry now. when you get those motor mounts that go on the engine make sure you get the ones for a Monte/Chevelle as those 86 truck one's I'm sure wont work. the bottom Crank pully wont work off the small block either it has to be a BB one. the Alt you can get away with and reuse but you will also need BB Alt brackets as small block ones wont work either and the SB power steering pump wont work too. has to be a BB one and those brakets from the SB PS. wont work either all has to be BB I'm afraid.and the List goes on from there my friend...... Darren.

There were many strange and unaccountable things done to our cars weather they were in one state or in another or even Canada. Some cars in California and even Pheonix for what ever reason got Rear Defrost..??? I can see up in Canada for sure or even New York. its like haveing A/C in a car thats from the North West Teritories up north in Canada where there is snow 365 days a year.

If I'm not mistaken that Pink wire backtracks through the fire wall and up the steering column and is part of the White and balck goofy jigsaw plugs that plug into the ignition switch.when turning the key forward in the run position it gives both the starter wire and the coil wire its positive feed it needs to start the car and the positive feed for the coil to run the engine and then sit dorment once the car is running in conjunction with the purple wire.. That Black ground wire with a metal eyelet on it pretty much goes on the firewall just as you can see in your picture there about 2inches away and is held in place with a larger thread metal screw and is the grounding source for the AC relay and stuff in that area. Those 3 wires on that plug by the booster dont go to the compressor as I was guessing they should run over the firewall and plug into a Resistor plug point by the heater hose blower motor area or to the left of that relay in your picture.. Darren.

Here is what I meant to say Kelly as I was too brief..In the middle of the picture I have here #7 area smack dab in the middle that Orange wire is noted as the Blower motor wire and yes we are both right I wasnt full in my details..the Orange wire is as you found cut and wrapped up as a close off wire for on Non AC cars its used for the blower motor but on AC cars it is cut and burried because the AC blower motor is supplied from as you said another supply which is a purple wire. if you back track it it goes from the blower motor hidden under the fender area and that goes to that relay I mentioned on top of the AC housing and then switches color before that relay to orange and then goes maybe 6 inches to that black plastic inline fuse holder where it changes to black and goes back to the Firewall fuseblock.. sorry I should have been more defineing... Darren.
-
Hey Forrest, Its the headlight switch..... when you turn the switch all the way to one side it turns on the dome light and console light and they stay on until rotated back..But what usually happens is the little finger that turns on the inside of the switch travels along a coiled spring and the tiny rivit breaks off and the finger slides and and sticks and keeps those lights on as if the dial is still turned on... Darren.
-
Hey Kelly, electrical....oh Joy..... Top picture.... those are the wires that go to the starter and blower motor.. on the harness where it looks like the thickest wiring wrap is, there is that L shaped eyelet..that bolts on and held into place on a bolt above and back of the starter its actually a tranny houseing bolt and holds up that wireing harness...Yes that dirty white cloth one goes to the coil and you can run a straight Red wire in the future from the Fuseblock to the HEI later.. the orange wire is for blower and the rest to the starter itself... Pic 2... that relay on the A/C houseing is the breaker for you heater A/C switch in the car if it is shot you will have no HIGH on A/C or heat...the inline fuse could be gone as well inside the tube holder you can see that is black up ontop of the firewall. the other relays are TCS related stuff on the engine and tranny part...TCS meaning Throttle Control Switch.. Pic 3 hmmmmmmm . those over the barkes will have to think on that one but will get back to you..most likely another relay let me check my super thick shop wireing diagramme..Gonna guess A/C compressor wireing harness plug in....But thats a guess. Darren... anyone else want to chime in here...???

Hey Rick , here is a picture of the dash in my 70 chevelle SS I just redid the housing last summer, sure it doesnt have the wood grain like our montes but it sure worked for me, I even got to do the letters for the wipers and lighter as well as the steering wheel center. It was done with a paint pen as you mentioned, sure I live up here in Canada but I went to the Craft store my wife use to go to for crafts and art supplies called "Michaels" and they have what they call Silver paint pen but for the life of me I dont know why they call it a paint pen as it had no little ball in there to shake it up before use as it looked more like a Liquid felt marker and worked great and looked way more closer to Chrome that silver even though the pics make it look silver in person it looks chrome for sure...Hope that helps with any location ideas... Darren.

Here is an actual picture Steve of it on my car rather than just on the intake still on the bench.. The engine has 300 miles on it now and No leaks at all from the sheild and she ran just fine, lots have pointed it out and the same thing was said.. wow didnt know they had those things or that they came with them..Just another OEM thing I had to have as for some sick reason that OEM thing just bugs me, silly eh.??? Look real close just to the left of the valve cover breather tube that goes into the carb you will just see the plate. Darren.
-
Hey Steve, that is a Factory GM Heat Sheild that was mounted under the carb to help deflect the heat from the intake manifold and keep it away from the fuel supply in order to help the carb run more smoother. As it sort of implies as Heat Sheild, If you scroll down to our Fore Sale section and look at the Triple Black 70 454ss car for sale in California right now from another member ..look real close at the engine picture just below the air cleaner on that number matching engine you will see his Factory heat sheild on the monte carlo there are 2 pics you can see it in. I really lucked out and found mine on Ebay listed as NOS in the GM envelope and scored it for $50.00 thats it... I have seen them on some small block cars as well but mainly on BB cars...I still have my GM manual handy so if you need anymore pics or info as I posted before dont hesitate to ask as well as anyone else please feel free to ask away.... any other help I can give ?? if you want the GM number off that sheild let me know and I will get it for you... Darren.
