  2. There is a TV show, Engine Masters, where they run tons of different performance products on different engines on a dyno to verify H.P changes. I think it would be cool to see the actual HP gain running all these different air cleaners. Yes, the lid upside-down would be cool also!
  3. I remember turning my ac lid over for fun years ago. Good times! I did have the police turn their lights on behind me, just after I had done a burn out with the lid upside-down but they drove away when I pulled over. Lucky day for me and last time I turned the lid over.
  4. I found these pictures a long time ago, if it helps.
  5. FYI! I almost threw out this small restrictor from one of the small hoses on my 71.
  6. Welcome! Great looking 71 Monte Carlo.
  7. I was lucky, in July 1985, I bought a 71 with the 350 and no A/C just like mine and swapped everything including all the harnesses under the hood, and it worked great! Then I went to sell the doner and the starter went out so I had to drop the price. I wish I could remember what that price was. Good luck!
  8. After sitting for several days or longer, my stock 71 350 Qudrajet 4 BBL, requires that I crank it for around 10+ seconds to refill the float bowl, then it will start and run fine. If I drive it the next day it starts fine. I sealed the "plugs" on the bottom of the carb years ago and they could be leaking again or it just evaporates while sitting. My garage does smell of gasoline after I take it for a ride and it's a warm or hot day. If I had an electric fuel pump, I could turn the ign switch on, let the pump fill the carb and I bet it would start quickly then! I'm sure you already checked that the CHOKE plate closes after the gas pedal is pushed one time to release it when the engine is cold.
  9. There is a small hole in that blue plastic plug.
  10. It may have already been thrown out. To be honest, I don't remember for sure but I remember the hose labeled "VENT PIPE" has a oval drawing on the hose and I assumed that is where it went. Where I put it, I can't remember for sure, sorry.
  11. Looking at some old pictures and thought I would pass this on.
  12. Heather, great news! What is the shop's name? Where is it located?
  13. Couldn't that mess with the fuel gauge float?
  14. Praying you have a speedy recovery!
  15. Not sure if this can be of any help but it can't hurt. 71 fuel evaporative hose routing from the tank. Several years ago I replaced all the "original" rubber hoses and almost threw out this hose but found a very small plastic "restrictor" inside one of them. The three hoses on top of the charcoal emission canister are: - from the fuel tank area - from the PCV system (This is where it gets sucked to) - the trigger hose to open the diaphragm allowing the vapors to be sucked into the engine. (I had a vacuum leak in the diaphragm, and replaced the entire canister) There are two pictures posted showing the vacuum switch, on the evap canister, that when you accelerate the diaphragm opens and allows the vapor to enter the engine and be burned under acceleration. There is also a large hose on the bottom of the evap canister, but I'm not sure what it is for. BTW, after I drive my Monte and park it in the garage, it makes the entire garage smell from gasoline. Perhaps I have a leak? (Or it is from the original Quadrajet) I bet you wish you had all this stuff attached and working now right? Not sure if this was different in California in 71 or if it was started earlier like in 1970?

Steve G, Good old Triumph TR I had one for a short time from my older brother to restore and sell back and now it is his son's 1963 TR-3B. So much fun! Here is a picture of it from Sept 2022 after it's second restoration.

  20. From 1993 A Monte meet in Ohio
  21. There were 2 first gen Monte Carlos, converted to convertibles in the area just North of Detroit, Michigan. I believe the original owner / builder has passed but one, blue, still was owned by his son, at the Woodward Dream Cruise 2 years ago. I can't find the picture I took but remember seeing them several times years ago.
  22. Welcome! You have a super great looking Monte there! Enjoy it.
  23. I drove one that was traded in at the Ford dealership I worked at many years ago. It was so strange to drive a 71 Monte with a 3 speed stick in the column.
