  1. Overdrive I remember it being a dark color but that was 20 or more years ago. Darrin maybe there was a mid or late year change but I had an original 70 Monte with cruise and it was chrome. It was a full halo car so early to mid model year build.

  2. That isn't the right lever for a 70. In 70 it was chrome with a chrome button not black. I had a 70 with cruise back in the early 80s. I also saw an SS Monte at a NMCOA meet  that had cruise. Don't remember if it was a 70 or 71 anymore. i asked him about it and he told me it was dealer installed, not factory. It was mounted behind the compressor and down the back of the inner fender. The speedometer cables were too long and connected to the cruise unit at some extreme angles. Not letting me post a link to a picture but just google 70 Chevelle cruise control pictures and you will find it.

  3. If you have the right size Allen wrench to fit the adjuster on the points and a cap with the sliding metal door, you can skip the feeler gauges and dwell meter. Put a light coat lube on the cam the points ride on, install points, start car, open door on cap and put Allen wrench in adjuster, slowly turn wrench to your right until engine runs badly or dies, turn wrench left half a turn and you're done. Then set timing.

There were a couple different stereo options. One option had just one speaker in the rear and another option had 2 in the rear.

That set up is for a non stereo radio. Either AM or AM-FM mono radio. All stereo and 8 track radios got two front and two rear speakers.

  5. But I played with the levers a bit initially. Should that flap be closed more?

Was this before or after you took the picture? If you moved the throttle linkage, part the gas pedal linkage is connected to, before you took the picture, it needs to close more. When cold, the choke should snap closed when that linkage is moved and be a bit hard to move when you push on it with your finger. Should close again when you stop pushing. When the engine is at operating temp, it should be fully open.

  6. Not cheap but good stuff. It covers well so you don't need to buy a lot for a project like this. Foam brushes work well for applying it, or you can spray it. As said earlier, be careful or you will be wearing it for a while. Gloves and long sleeves help. Don't try to get all the rust off. It doesn't work well on bare steel. If you are going to paint over it, let it dry until there is just a light drag feeling when running a finger over it. Then you can use any paint/primer to cover it. Do it too soon and it will wrinkle. Do it too late and the only paint that will stick without sanding is their brand.

  7. it was like in 1971-72 monte carlo where the later half of 1971 some of our cars have the fasten the seat belt light and some didnt.

    Darren.

That would be 1972 not 1971. "On January 1, 1972, NHTSA required passenger vehicles for sale in the United States to be equipped with passive restraints protecting vehicle occupants in frontal barrier crashes up to and including 30 mph, or alternatively, with a buzzer–light reminder system."

  8. Hey I have a 1972 Monte Carlo and want to powder coat the rims. Were the original rims all argent silver or argent silver and black???Has anybody had any luck powder coating their rims???Any in argent silver???Any help would appreciated- Thank you

Welcome. If you have rally wheels they were argent. If you have regular plain wheels with hub caps they were black.

  9. I've seen GM build many so called prototypes some were just ideas they followed through with never intended to go into production. I remember a few years ago Barrett Jackson had a run of these cars all sold with no titles

one was a 1996 full size SS with a 502 engine, maybe they snuck a few Montes out the same way back then.

Anything is possible and we can play what if forever. The only sure thing is none have been found, with proof, in 44 years so the odds are none ever will.
