  1. Was this used due to the length of the shaft?

No, same length shaft as a Chevelle. Just something GM thought would give their new luxury car a nicer ride. Same idea as the rubber frame mounts on the tranny cross member.

  2. Just because no one has one TODAY that's into the hobby, doesn't mean there wasn't any produced. Harold Worman know's the difference between a 402 and 454, remember he ran the high performance parts department, and he drag raced. That normally means a guy is a little more tuned up mechanically than the average joe. It matter's little to me if any of you guys believe what I heard with my ears. I've seen 400 small blocks and 402 rat motor 4 speed Monte's, maybe they never built those either, even though I saw those examples @ the dealer back in the day.

I'm not questioning what you heard with your ears and I believe he knows the difference. I had a 70 with a 400 small block. it had buckets but no console. When I showed it back in the 80s a lot of people didn't believe it was factory. I have a 70 SS with a bench seat. I have the build sheet. Same thing, doesn't have buckets so it can't be an SS. Many different things were made back then, sometimes by accident when the wrong parts came down the line. These have been documented, not just remembered. There is a difference. This fall I saw a 70 Monte at the Greenfield Ave show. It looked like a barn find that someone had started to restore. It had SS trim and the right parts for an SS, air tank, big block steering shaft, etc. It also had a 4 speed with the correct Monte Console. I went back to that car 5 times but no one was there. I hope to see it again this year at a show and talk to the owner about it. Did I see it? Yes I did. Does this mean the factory made it AND THERE IS DOCUMENTATION? No, it's what I saw.

  3. I remember Dale Chevy from back then. They did have a lot of hot cars on their lot. I was in Milwaukee then and friends and I would make the rounds of the dealers 2-3 times a month to see what was on the lots. Was this supposed to be a new or used car back when he saw it? Maybe there was one or maybe he remembers a 400 4 speed. Until someone has paperwork, it's all just 44 year old memories.

  4. Non air conditioned cars with Am or AM/FM mono radio had single front center mount speaker. A fader and single rear speaker on passengers side was an option for these radios. Any air conditioned car got dual front speakers. Stereo or 8 track radio cars got dual front and dual rear speakers air conditioned or not.

  5. Need more info. Type of paint? Single stage or base clear? Color and color of primer/sealer. HVLP or high pressure gun? Name brand gun or Harbor Freight special? Fluid tip and compressor size? Will you wet sand flat and buff or just paint and call it good?

  6. My thoughts on this sight unseen, no idea about quality of work done so far, and nothing to prove it's an SS. $8,500 is way too high. You can buy a nice running small block for that price. It does have many desirable options. Gauges, AM-FM 8 track, big block, buckets, console, power windows, and rear defog. All that adds to the price. I'd be OK going 5-6,000 on it if I was looking at it for myself. It will be a very nice car with many options when finished even if it turns out not to be an SS.

  7. " First the cruise control and no paperwork to prove its an ss.not aware of an ss with cruise from the factory"

You are right about that. The air pump for the rear shocks is in the same place the cruise control brain is mounted. I have seen cruise installed in an SS but it was not mounted in the factory position and stood out as not original. Check out the SS page as mentioned above. With no paper work to back it up, the only sure way to tell is if the engine code is for a 454 and the engine numbers match the vin. Other than that, you can look for some of the things that came with the SS package and make an educated guess but that is all it will be since any of the options, other than the 454, could be ordered on a regular Monte if US sold. Canadian Montes have the Z20 code on the car.

  8. 70 Montes don't have the blue for the separate high beam bulb that the 70 Chevelle has. This could be used on a Monte and only a 70 Monte nut would know the difference. Just connect the green to parking light and clear to headlight. We know that it was a 70 only option so his listing for 71 up is wrong.

  9. Not much if it's just a lever and wires were cut before connector at the bottom of the column. You also need the rest of the wiring, brain under the hood, linkage to carb, speedo cable, vacuum set up and brake light switch for cruise if you want it to work. The lever is the same, except for color, until the hi/low switch was put on the column. As usual, 70 was different. It was chrome instead of color. That one would be worth a few bucks.

  10. I had a feeling they didn't make any new trim for the top based on my answers from suppliers, figured id ask here just incase. Guess ill be taking the trim off my parts car very carefully

Stainless pieces come off easily with a putty knife. Slip under and gently pry up. Pot metal pieces at lower corners by the trunk have a nut, inside the trunk, holding them. Easy to break the stud off trying to loosen nut.
