  1. I'm starting this topic to review my patriot heads that I'll be getting in a few days. Hopefully it will help someone else with their decision on whether they should buy or not. I have been doing a lot research on these and there really isn't a whole lot of information on them. Most of it is hearsay in the chat rooms. I've found a few build articles from Car Craft, CHP and Supper Chevy and there they get a good review with very respectable power numbers. I decided to go with them because Chris Straub had given them thumbs up somewhere in my reading on the heads. I bought them bare from Jegs priced matched for 1014.00 delievered. Fed Ex tracking has them at my door on Wednesday. Pictures and comments to come.
  2. Thanks for everyones input! I was looking for the proper name so I could do a good search. I even went over to the Chevelle site and couldn't find anything. It being an exclusive monte carlo thing explains why I couldn't find it. I think I'm going to leave mine out and leave the supply for those that are restoring to original condition. It may be possible I might even have a set. I have a 71 I stripped many years ago and stached the parts at my sisters place. I plan on hauling all those parts back to my place soon.
  3. Does any one know the name of the rubber flap that presses on the firewall shoulder seams and fills the void between the rear fender and the firewall? Can't find that thing any where. I think it is for directing air into the side vents.
  4. Like this http://www.carid.com/universal-transmission-drivetrain/spectre-performance-aluminum-transmission-cooler-12040633.html?"cagpspn=pla"&gclid=CNiy0vnvn7oCFc07Mgod6CIAHw
  5. Anyone ever try the cylindrical finned aluminum coolers? I've seen them all over the place with different lengths available.
  6. Thanks Dan! that was what I was looking for. My pan has the kickouts.
  7. Are you guys running a stock oil pan with those headers?
  8. Well for future references, I ended up dual feeding the direct drum, switching to a larger boost valve and drilling out the sep plate for firmer shifts. It's going to be a while before I can test it out, I am doing a full rework of the car, but when that happens I'll repost the results.
  9. I am getting a new torque converter about 2800-3000 stall. As far as the speedo goes, I plan on going to a Digital Dakota VHX instrument cluster and just using the electronic output of the 4l80e. Over on the Chevelle forum it seems like everyone that has a 4l80e and an electronic controller can't say enough about how great it is to choose the shift points and have full control over the transmission.
  10. Well cant turn back now, to far along. I scored the trany for $350. Looking at keeping it an auto and going with the TCI TCU controler. I spent $200 on a delux rebuild kit and I am almost done. After getting it apart I could have gotten away with just a shift kit as every looked good inside, very little wear. All said and done I'll have around a 1K in it. I don't think that is to bad for adding a 4th gear.
  11. No one is running a 4L80e? Let me throw out another one. Are all the years 89 to present output shafts interchangeable? I have the short splined bolted version and I would like to swap it out for the longer 2wd one .
  12. Getting ready to rebuild my 1996 4L80E trans and was wondering what mods would any of you suggest doing while its apart. It will still be an "E" tranny controled by a TCI TCU. I have planed a total replacment of all seals, gaskets clutches, steels, boost valve, the bonded piston, bands, switch from 16 to 34 element bearing and the dual feed modification. Any thing else I should do? It is going behind a 625-675hp 489. Do you think I will need a hardened input shaft?
  13. I'm a little slow at getting your point that you were trying to make. Your trying to help me make the best choice and not just a good one. I'll give Howards cam a call tomorrow.
  14. Is there some thing you don't like about it? I'm just a novice in this game and was looking for some advice. Please feel free to comment. You won't hurt my feelings.
  15. After hours of more reading, what do the rest of you think.... http://www.summitracing.com/parts/hrs-120265-10
  16. I forgot to add that tid-bit. Planned on a 2500-3000 stall.
  17. Hello All! This is my first post here but I've been around for a while looking, reading and gaining knowledge. I've begun rebuild my Cali found 70 Monte. I have a good 454 standard bores to work with. My plan is to turn it into a 496. I have coming, as of now, aluminum rec port heads set up by Skip White for a roller hyd cam, max .070 lift, forged Lunatti stroker crank, rods, and forged pistons yielding a 10.5:1 cr. I got a 4l80e ready and thinking about a 4:10 rear gear with 28 inch tires, non tubb. What my goal is to have a killer street machine with maybe a pass or two down the 1/4 just to see how she does when done. I'm guessing max rpm around 6500. I would like this motor to last. Please help!
