I don't think they have a set for small blocks, but I'll check.

Looks like big block only for Monte, but they do list a set for Chevelle. Sometimes the two don't interchange so well. I'd call them to see if they have something that's not listed, or if the Chevelle ones would work.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll definitely contact them before buying.

I use State Farm for my daily drivers. I have and use Hagarty for my Monte SS. It is a premium company and rates are priced competitively or slightly higher compared to the other classic vehicle insurers. They do offer additional services that other insurers do not, such as flatbed towing, lockout and fuel service for your vehicle if you want those services. But here is where it counts. When you have a claim how does your insurance company deal with it? Do they have specialty or restoration shops that they can recommend in your area? I had a rep from Hagarty and an independent appraiser come look at my Monte when I had a claim. They were at the shop in under 48 hours of making the claim, on time for the appointment, appraised and approved the claim on the spot and cut me a substantial check to get my claim started. Fast and thorough customer service is where it’s at, and what I absolutely received from Hagarty. Look at other forums regarding classic vehicle insurance. Read about the nightmares others have had trying to get claims settled lasting months, or companies holding up payment. Nobody wants to make a claim, but how is your insurance company going to treat you when something happens? Are you going to get the service your paying for? See what others have to say about them. If your strictly going by price, this is probably not the company for you. Just be wise and aware before you make your choice of companies. Just my 2 cents.

I definitely am looking for quality service. Right now the car is with my regular Allstate policy and with the extremely poor service I'm getting right now with them taking care of a claim on my wife's 2015 Camaro, I sure as hell don't want to deal with them taking care of any claim on the Monte.

  3. Currently I have my Monte, as well as all my vehicles, insured with Allstate under a standard policy. I've been dragging my feet about switching to a more appropriate policy but after dealing with them on my wife's daily I really don't want them to have anything to do with the Monte or any of my other vehicles either. What do you guys have and what's your satisfaction with them?

I think the not too distant past conversations were more big block related, and ARH (American Racing Header) was discussed more often than not.

I would love to get a set of the ARH headers but it's a bit rich for me.

Just a suggestion....Use the search engine in the forum. There is a lot of history and posts on headers over the years. Be warned, I had a legal pad full of notes when I did that, brands, model numbers, and fitment.

I did some digging but didn't find a lot of sbc header info, at least as far as I dug.

  6. I'm in the process of getting my new 355sbc ready to go into the car and hit a snag. The Summit Racing long tube headers i bought fit terribly with the plugs and plug wires specifically #6 though #5 isn't great either. I just ordered some shorty plugs but if that doesn't take care of the issue and massaging the pipes don't work I'm cutting my losses and getting a different brand of header. I'm open to just about any brand and would like to stick to long tube but open to mid length as well. My budget is $1k and less.

@SPLATT71MC QUIT SPENDING MY MONEY!!!!!! Haha

Man, this looks awesome. Thank you for posting the link

QUESTION: What steering ratio (number) did you buy?

It says that 3 turns is stock  and that they offer a 2.5

It also says they offer more ports for an after market steering ram of some sort. Did you do that?

I bought the quickest one they offered at the time which was like 10 years ago so I don't remember exactly. I liked it enough to go back to them for a box for my K5 Blazer cross over conversion.

Yeah, I'm definitely tiptoeing down that path. I saw some info on a late model Jeep steering box. I will post source and part number once I figure that out.

Now that I've got a few miles with the new shocks in I've noticed that the rear is a little saggy - had air shocks previously. As I stated earlier in this thread, the front springs look to have been replaced at some point but the rear springs are original. I'm probably going down the path of replacing the rear springs shortly, which nega the question of other 'might as well' upgrades. Never stops!!

I went with a Red Head Steering quick ratio box on mine. It bolted right in.

    Steve,

The small hose is plumbed directly to the drivers side port on my Edlebrock carb…  as shown below….

I eliminated the PCV tee on my car because of the AC and valve covers…  It was too crowded in that area, so I put my pcv on the passenger side valve cover.(see center port on the carb)   ….

If you look closely,, the canister center line is routed below my radiator hose and now circles back behind the carb directly to a tee put in the manifold….. You can see a red cap I placed in the hose as a port for the timing vacuum checks, and carb adjustment.

The big line on the Canister goes to the fuel tank expansion / vapor line… This was the way I was advised to hook it up and it seems to work … Sometimes it's frustrating getting three different opinions from three mechanics…..

    Hope this helps…

Thank you, that's a big help.

Steve , I can't speak to the Holley,, but here is a pic of how mine hooks up on my 70.

The small hose (left)…………..goes to the ported vacumn on my Edlebrock carb…   I believe that activates the canister valve and opens up to vacate any accumulated vapors stored or held in the charcoal filter…

The center line………….goes to intake manifold  (behind the carb ) ..

The right ………..goes directly to the metal line that leads back to the fuel tank….  BTW ,,, I'm using a non vented gas cap,

Also,, I noticed on another thread that your PCV is plumbed to center port… I have mine set up the same…

The diagram above doesn't totally address the question…   It does indicate the line is sharing the canister with the PCV…

I decided to send the center hose back and around carb directly to the intake manifold….

    Hope this helps...

I do recall that the larger line that goes up to the manifold originally went into a tee fitting that was also plumbed to the the PCV and then routed to the carb. It's the small line that because of the carb change that's been stumping me as to where to route it.

Do you have  Factory Assembly manual? The hose routing is in there. If not, what engine do you have  & I'll look it up a little later.

It's packed away for our upcoming move. The engine is the original 350 but with a Holley and open element filter.

  12. I removed the charcoal canister on my 71 years ago when I swapped over to a Holley carb. I'm thinking about reinstalling it but have no idea on where the purge valve hose routes to on the engine side. I searched this site and Googled for a couple hours yesterday and didn't find the answer I needed.

  13. I've had decent luck with a properly rebuilt Quadrajet on stock or slightly modified engines> Edelbrock/Carter AFB I've had decent luck with on stock to slightly modified engines but not so much on a more modified engine. Holleys I haven't used it on a modified engine but have had decent luck on a stock engine.
