  1. Her is an update on my project. It is now a frame off restoration. So far I have sandblasted and painted the frame, rebuilt the fraont and rear suspension. I am curently working on rust repair on the front cowl area, under rear seat and trunk. The original 402 is at the machine shop and the transmission is at a freinds shop to be rebuilt. Here are some pictures of the progress. http://i921.photobucket.com/albums/ad55/johngushue1/monte%20restoration/imagejpg5_zps502ef778.jpg http://i921.photobucket.com/albums/ad55/johngushue1/monte%20restoration/imagejpg4_zps5a2f9140.jpg http://i921.photobucket.com/albums/ad55/johngushue1/monte%20restoration/imagejpg3_zps1c43e219.jpg http://i921.photobucket.com/albums/ad55/johngushue1/monte%20restoration/imagejpg1_zps0f0a4db7.jpg http://i921.photobucket.com/albums/ad55/johngushue1/monte%20restoration/imagejpg1_zps75c354f2.jpg http://i921.photobucket.com/albums/ad55/johngushue1/monte%20restoration/iphone085_zpsae2c42de.jpg
  2. Terry, your seats look great. I just recovered my drivers bucket last weekend. I am working on the passenger bucket now. I also used Legendary Seat Covers. URL=http://s921.photobucket.com/user/johngushue1/media/monte%20restoration/image_zpsed564c0f.jpg.html][/url]
  3. Thanks Terry and yes that is my 1970 Chevelle SS. That car was restored by the previous owner so not much to do on it. This winters project is the Monte I bought this summer. Eventually I plan on detailing the engine compartment and will have to decide if I want to rebuild the original 402 I got with the car or keep the 496 in it. The car is a blast to drive with the 496 and 373 gears.
  4. Here is some progress I made. The rear suspension, exhaust and gas tank has been removed (no build sheet on the gas tank). After an inspection of the floor I found two rust areas that will need to be repaired. One in the center of the trunk (this was known when I bought the car) and the other under the drivers rear seat. I also have removed the seats as the drivers bucket has two rips in it and will need to be recovered.
  5. Thankyou. The seventh letter on the vin is B so I believe it was built in Baltamore. I am hoping when I start taking it apart to find a build sheet. I have to recover the front buckets this winter so maybe I will find one in the seats. I do have the protector plate and all the dates codes on the engine block, heads, carburator, distributer, transmission, and rear end check out corrrect.
  6. Thanks, the color and that it was a original big block with almost every option but cruise control and power seat sealed it for me when I bought it this summer. I put springs in it when I first got the car and picked them out with information I read in on one of the forums. The information within the forums here is incredible.
  7. I think I figured out how to post pictures. Here's a couple of pictures of the car's undercarraige that I will be working on. Lots of undercoating and surface rust to deal with. And here is one of the car
  8. Thanks, can't seem to get the pictures on the post. I can upload them to the gallery pictures but can't add them to the post. I will keep trying.
  9. Hi, I thought I would introduce myself as I have been a member for a couple of months and have benefitted greatly from the wealth of information on this site. I am starting the detailing of rear suspension/frame/undercarraige of my 71 Monte. The car is a 71 triple black original 402 but has a 496 motor in it now. I will eventually rebuild the 402 and put it back in the car. I do not have a build sheet but I do have the protector plate for the car. I have verified that I have the original TH400 and 12 bolt rear end still in the car. I plan on working on the car in stages with the rear suspension first, I put the car up on jack stands and will start the disasembly this week. From the posts I have read pictures are desired so I will try to post them when I figure out how.
