Thanks for the help on this one guys, i actually got a bigger carb for it an eddy 750 cfm and it's running a lot better. looks like the motor was just starving with that 600

ok well im going to get it tuned up by my engine guy this week hopefully. Do you think i should upgrade to a bigger carb before i get that done ? or will the 600 be good enough

No signs of it being a water issue. i changed the plugs cap and rotor a week ago and no smoke after that and yes if i drive for about 10 minutes or so there will be no more smoke out the pipes. i figured the timing was of and the small carb wasnt helping the situation either

Guys and Gals i need some help, I just bought a truck to haul the Monte with once she is finished, 1979 Chevy C-30 with 454 mated to a th400. I figured you all could help answer a few questions. 1.) is whiteish smoke out of the tail pipes a sign of a lean condition ? i think the #1 is fouled 2.) what size carb do you guys recommend for a 454 ? the guy i bought it from put a eddy1406 on it. which is only 600cfm and it seems to surge at low speed(around 20 mph).

Finally got the Monte pulled apart after the wreck. All damage is officially cosmetic. Should have her running by the weekend.

Ok so here is the update, i finally talked with allstate and there appraisal almost matched mine from the info i got from hagerty so i will be receiving my car monday hopefully and a check shortly after. @jaredrichey do you still have any or all of those parts ?

Jared, Thanks for responding i will call you as soon as i settle everything with the insurance company, that way i will know exactly what i'm working with. and both the doors still open and close fine but the driver side fender got warped a little from the hood moving so i know i will probably need that as well.

Hey Bill, i guess i did write that a little awkward. no the guy that caused the accident did stop and my insurance is going to speak with his because he did not open a claim because he did not get hit. my claim lady was telling me he would be classified as a phantom car in the matter but is still liable if the investigation shows it. beacuse even though i had the right of way i was told the police are going to write it up as no one at fault.

Sam is right, when i get her back she will be insured for a guaranteed 30k even if she is in pieces. Sam how would i check to see if the body tub is damaged ? from what i can see everything seems to still be in place

I just got back from the tow shop where it is at and i see no signs that the frame was hit. it looks like the grill fender and hood were just pulled off of the frame and the bumper was pulled when his truck moved. new pics below. i know it s still up to the insurance but i plan on keeping it no matter what, what you guys think

Thanks Doug, I was the only one in the car just hit my head a little but i am ok. Im pretty sure the insurance is going to total it out. but i will try to keep possession of it totaled or not. worst case scenario i will keep it as a parts car and drop the motor in a new ride. hopefully i can get enough money to at least do that. I am not to sure how the frame looks when i get it back i will be pulling it apart

Thanks tony i'm still waiting on the adjuster to go look at it. but i just had full coverage on it but not classic insurance so i might not be getting to much money back. and i am going to look at it again today bu i hit a truck and the engine was still running when i stopped i had to turn it off myself. im hoping it hit the truck high enough to where it missed the frame. i have a pic from the other side.

Hey guys, I wrecked my monte on friday. Guy pulled in front of me causing me to hit a parked truck. I dont know what the insurance is going to offer me but i wanted to start finding out how much my parts will cost. What is the best website to find parts for our first gens ? hopefully i will only be needing mostly body parts i posted the pic below

Hey guys im out here doing trial and error. And realize a lot of air is blowing out from behind the a/c box between it and the firewall(I'm sure that's the fan right?) Is this normal or could this be where all my air is going ? And does anyone know what wires go where on the relay ? I have one prong that is hot with the ignition off and nothing is hooked to it.

doug, the pics are accurate. and i remember my pops messing with those to get the fan to even come on. but i dont see how i can get the fan to go faster with a fuse and a relay ? does anyone know what ind of fuse should be in there ? or if i might have the relay wired wrong ? i will work on it today since its going to be sunny after work

any help is good when you know nothing rock, you can check back on monday i will be up bright and earlier to see what i can do. hopefully its a simple fix
