  1. I'm trying to figure out if my car has both of these?  I have 70 and I can see the distribution block mounted on the frame just below and to the rear of the vacuum booster but i can't find a proportioning valve.  Did the 70 Monte Carlo (Front Discs, Rear Drums) come with one or both of these or does the Hold Off Valve connected to the front Master Cylinder Brake line eliminate the Proportioning valve?

  2. Putting inner fenders back in my 70 today and I purchased the battery tray support bracket.  There is no instructions with the piece I purchased and I was given an unclear explanation where this mounts to the inner fender.  Can anybody describe to me where exactly this little metal bracket mounts/bolts to or perhaps if possible to post a picture of it mounted?  Hopefully picture of the bracket I attached below comes through.  Thanks.

  3. Thanks again Paul.  I would agree that this switch is abandoned as well if it is for the blower switch.  The fan/blower is functioning with the wiring harnesses that are connected to the heater/ac controls.  I'll just label them and tuck them under the dash.

If they have power going to some of those wires, could I use them later on down the line if I add accessories to the car?

  4. Thanks Paul.  Very, very helpful

Just to clarify, the Third and Fourth are the same harness, Fourth is just showing the plug end of the third picture.  If it is a heater connector, do you know where it plugs into?  If you can't see the wire colours in the third picture I can clarify later today when I'm back home.

Car did have AC so I will just tuck that away.

  5. Hope everyone is well and enjoying their rides so far this summer.  I just put the dash back in my 70 and I have a few loose ends that I am not sure where they plug into.  The radio is missing from the car so I'm thinking that's what they might be for as everything else seems to be plugged in their respective places.  Here are some pics of what I'm wondering about.  I've tried to show the wiring colour and the plug end for each harness.  I'm assuming The black plug with the cut wires is radio and the cut wires were for the speakers.  Thanks in advance for any input.

  6. Thanks everyone.  I have a dropped base on mine but ran into the same problem as Larry (Leghome) and have to use a 3/4" spacer to clear the carb.  I went with a Mr Gasket 1480A as Joe (jft69z) suggested and I can now close the hood.  I'll have to revisit the air flow issue once I get the car on the road and possibly have to make some changes/add a hood scoop.  Thanks again, very much appreciated.

  7. Does anyone use a low profile air filter?  Looking for a part number for one of these.  Prefer a paper element type (Fram, AC Delco, Purolator, etc.)  My air cleaner is just under 14 inches round (approx. 13.75").  A 3 inch tall filter is too high and I can't close the hood.  Looking for something in the 2 inch height range.  Thanks.

  8. Paul:

Thanks for taking the picture.  Hard to tell where those wires go into it.  I have my inner fenders off on mine.  I'm redoing the front end right now.  Once I get to the driver's side I'll have a closer look and see if I can locate where they are.  I'll try to take a picture and post it once I get a chance.

  9. I believe I read the following on this forum quite a while ago but can't remember who posted but credit should go to him/her/them.

"GM moved the location of the headlights in 71. When they did this the bolt that holds down the fender to the rad support needed to be moved up to allow clearance for the headlight which was now directly under this bolt. They stepped up the rad support and fender for clearance. As a result the 1970 fenders, rad support and, fender extensions are all for that year only.

The 72 has the same headlight location as 71 but there were further changes to the rad support to accommodate the turn signals in the 72 grille. Therefore, all three rad supports are different.  The fender extensions are different all three years."

The attached pictures show a 1970 Fender (Tourquoise) and a 1971 Fender (Red)

  10. Thanks for all the replies.  I'm pretty sure they go to the fuse block at the firewall in the engine compartment.  At this point they are somewhere in the group of wires that are part of the right-side(passenger) of the fuse block (if that makes sense).  I can't tell exactly where they connect on that part of the fuse block.  They are not the starter or blower relay, Those wires are connected.  They are black with a purple stripe. Same wire that Rock posted a picture in his reply plus there is the other one that I show in my original picture.  Here is another couple of pictures  of just the one wire.

  11. Looking at my engine compartment wiring and found two wires unplugged.  Thought they connected together but both have power.  Picture is hard to tell but they are black with a purple stripe.  Car is a 70 Monte Carlo with A/C.  A/C not connected so thought they may have something to do with that.  Picture attached.  The wiring diagrams I looked at do not show this wire.  Thanks.
