  1. Recent topics have debated engine choices.  Big block vs small block vs LS.  Each choice has it's positive and negative attributes.  Choices are made on numerous factors (nostalgia, cost, availability, weight, etc.).  If we boil it down to purely money, what would be the best choice "bang for your buck" power plant to reach 600-700 lbs torque / horsepower?

I'm saving money and thinking of stroking my existing 350 to a 383 and adding a pro charger. Would it be more cost effective to stroke a big block?  Should I start with an aftermarket small block and go for 434 ci stroker?  Crate motor?  At this point, LS isn't an option for me because I would prefer an old school V8.  And I would be sourcing out the work.  I'm budgeting $7000 - $10000.

    Thanks for your input.

  2. This thread has been pretty interesting to me since I'm planning on swapping my stock 350 sbc motor out for more power in the near future.  I was considering a heavily stroked sbc but after reading some articles / forums, seems like a stroked bbc is the way to go (LS power isn't an option for me).

Seems more efficient to produce 600 torque/horsepower from a stroked bbc than a sbc.  Less stress on the motor, pump gas friendly, power adder capabilities, and longevity seem to edge out a stroked sbc.

    Thoughts?

  3. Just wanted some input. I'm planning on painting my '70 in a few months. What do you think of doing Yenko striping without the words or Yenko abbreviations? Thanks.

  4. Winston Wolf: Thanks for the input. I'm trying to get keep my options open. I would rather have an over built transmission if I decide to a super charger or turbos down the road. Looking at CPT's Ultimate 200R ($2700) + lock up torque convertor ($800),things can get pricey.

  5. Awesome thread! Great info and good reading.

I really want to put a 200r behind my mild 350 (replacing my TH350, 3.73 rear). My dilemma is I'm planning on replacing my motor next year with a 400+ cubic inch stroked motor (no power adders) and the engine builder doesn't think the 200r can handle the power.

Will a stout 200r that can handle 500-600 horsepower / torque work with my current and future set up?

  6. Might be off topic, but how do you remove the front turn signal lens / assembly for a '70?  I'm trying to replace my bulb.  I removed the two screws that secures the metal bracket on the outside of the lens but it doesn't budge.  Sorry if this is a stupid question.  I'm a newbie.
