He's not the only one.

I used ausleys Chevelle. They have a kit/package for the Chevelle that phantom fits our cars and it was the cheapest around and still used quality parts. Softseal parts.
-
I have used Moser, strange and Mark Williams axles. All with great results. It would be a personal preference as to which to use.

What are you looking to do? Just keep the hood up without a pole in front? You could "pin" the hinges. Drill a hole for a pin that you install when the hood is open. Depending on the style of hood pin you could even use them. This way you don't forget to pull them out before trying to close the hood. Also most fiberglass manufacturers sell low tension speings for hoods. Probably for cheaper than opgi. You could also Fab up a way to use pistons for the hood. I used some very low charged pistons on my g-body Grand am fine erglass hood. Took a few tries though and I know a g-body 78-88 hood hinges are different than the Monte's. Just a few thoughts... Good luck!

You should be good to go then.

You should not have an issue using the radiator you have for the big block unless it's 12 1/2 to 1 compression. Lol
-
And LS5 is correct with the 307 frame mounts. They will not work. Lol depends on what route you want to go. Stock or aftermarket. I went aftermarket with my 70 SS because I don't want to change mounts anymore. Lolol

Glad you caught it in time! The question is why did this happen in 500 mi? Is the u-joint free and not binding? Is the yolk going into the trans enough? Is the driveshaft bent or out of balance? Usually all of these can cause the tailshaft bushing to get beaten to death. Or the rebuilder didn't install a new bushing when the trans was rebuilt. It's easy so I don't think that was it.

I have done many big block swaps in Monte's. I have always used the small block mounts and frame mounts with no fitment issues. I did install the Chris Alston big block Chevelle motor mount kit because I got tired of replacing broken engine mounts. The only issue with the kit is you have to use the right frame mount for the left side and the left for the right side. Also had to drill one frame mounting bolt hole. So far NO issues with these mounts after many 1/4 mile passes and street beatings. Lol

Small block and big block frame and engine mounts for a Monte are the same. I'm not 100 percent sure the 68-72 chevelle frame mounts are the same. I believe I have a few sets of used Monte frame mounts if you are interested. Hope this helps.

Sounds like the bushing inside the tailhousing has gone bad. Have you taken out driveshaft? What does the yolk look like? Do you have a short yolk or a long? U joints ok?

Hi. Mine was a resistor problem.

Congrats!!! Looks good! Reminds me of the old school "Daisy" style rims.

Congrats!!!!! Nice looking Monte! The "stepped" fenders are 71-72.

The VIN and Halo top say 70. Everything else from what described is 71. I'm thinking like Canuck, a 70 shell was used as a done for a possible 71 SS. Keep us posted of your findings and welcome to the club!!

There are a few other differences but the quickest and easiest way to identify which years is where they meet the fenders.
-
Quick and easy answer, the 70 is flat where it meets the fenders and the 71-72 has the "step". Lol good trivia! More!!!

You are very welcome. That's what we are all here for,... To help eachother. Glad what little I know was able to help you!

If I am remembering correctly the wire from the posiibattery terminal to the distribution block is a type of fusable link. I hope that is the problem. Good luck again!
-
What year Monte? If 70, check the wires and power distribution block on the radiator support by the battery. I have had these connections give the problem you are describing. Good luck!

Thank you Aaron! I was not able to make it this year. ☹️ The video is great! Thank you again!!!

All good. That's what we are here for, to help eachother. If you want to stay with the valve covers you already have, a smaller brake booster may be an option. So is a hydro boost system. Pricey from what I have heard.

If it's running rich, I hope you are starting with the carb and timing. Fouled plugs are a byproduct. What size and type of carb? Jet sizes? Power valve? What is your timing at?
