Sounds like its time to start chasing voltage from the fuse block to the switches, brake and turn signal. You say you have no tail lights at all, even with the parking lights on? Do the head lights come on? Did you ground the head light switch?

Everything works except for the brake lights and the turn signals.  All parking lights work except for drivers front side marker.  That harness has and open on the brown wire of the side marker connector.  I'll be ordering a new harness to fix that from M&H.

It almost sounds like two separate issues... the brake lights and the turn signals/flashers. You say the parking lights work so i am assuming that includes tail lights and all the marker lights, yeah? If so your bulb sockets are properly grounded but not getting the additional voltage for the second bulb filaments. I would diagnose one at a time, starting with the brake light switch. Find it and check for voltage on the input and output side of the switch. Oh and i recommend a test light which is quicker and easier to use than a voltmeter and will give you the results you need which are really just "voltage? yes or no". Electrical issues are normally fairly straightforward if you can follow wires and diagrams... follow the voltage starting at the fuse block and work down the line until you figure out where the disconnect is. Both the flashers and turn signals go through the turn signal switch in the column, which could be your culprit on that issue, especially considering the harnesses are new. I had an issue one time where the ignition key tumbler was loose and causing an intermittent short in the column. That was a bugger to find and fix but it was a matter of following the voltage.

Do you have a wiring diagram?

I have a wiring diagram.  All of the side markers work except for the drivers side marker in the front.  I diagnosed that to an open in the side marker harness and will order a new one.  I do have a test light and a volt meter.

  3. Looking for ideas on how to troubleshoot an electrical issue.  All new harnesses.  Parking lights work.  Brake lights and turn signals do not.  Also four way flashers do not work.  I did a conversion from columns shift to console while redoing the interior.

  4. Thanks - posted just yesterday with the same question.  Ordered a set of them - they seem to be the right size base on stud thickness which I gauged to be approx 1/8 inch.  Are these used on the trunk lock emblem too?  Reason I ask is I got a new emblem and it came with nuts instead - which would be a b**ch to use with the trunk lock and latch already in place.

  5. Those panels are different.  Maybe because mine is a 71.  I'm not switching from crank window to power window.  I had the panels recovered and they didn't mark the spot where the switch goes.  But I'll see if I can use that opening as a reference to cut the hole for the switch. Thanks.

  6. Can someone provide me with the location on the rear quarter window panel (the panel below the rear window and above the rear ash tray) where the power window switch goes?  I've got one picture but it is not of the entire quarter window panel so can't determine exact location.

  7. M&H sent me a new connector to replace the clear connector that had the correct design to match the courtesy light harness.  Popped the clear one off and stuck the new on.  Problem solved.  Next issue - what is the part number of the bulb that goes in this courtesy light harness from painless (I called them - they are closed today).  It looks to be an 1156 style bulb, but shorter in height.

  8. Paul and MCFan,  thanks for your help!  I figured that is what Paul was suggesting but just wanted to confirm.  I will try to not have to cut off any of the connectors and see what is available at the local Auto Zone.  McFan thanks for posting the pictures.
