  1. I think on my 70 the spare is mounted upside down with the back side of the rim showing. If I reverse it, I dont' think the J-hook shaft is long enough to fit the base over it and get the wing nut on.,

Just a note. there is nothing on the floor of the trunk to lock the jack into place. When you tighten the wing nut it places sufficient pressure from the tire on the jack to keep it from rattling around and making noise.

  2. Scott,

We will try to meet up with you and Jack along the way. I can't see any sense in heading north first. Patsy and I are planning to leave early too and we will head our past the airport to pick up the PA turnpike just before the Ohio Line.

Mike if we dont' get moving in time to meet up with Scott and Jack we will try to meet up with you.

  3. Speaking of rear bumpers, My car came with a refurbished, replated bumper still in the box and the original, beat up bumper. I know rear repops just started, but should I hold on to old beat-up core?

Yes, an old oritional bumper can be straightened out and replated.

  4. Try calling (800)222-1020 and and ask for the free GM Restoration package Jake is talking about. Have your VIN available just in case they ask for it. I don't know if they still offer this free service or not but it is worth a try. Just come back here and tell us if you get it.

  5. I am so very sorry to see this post. Like everyone else here we were all hoping to see a positive post that Robyn is doing better but that was not to be. God has a plan and at this point in time Robyn was part of that plan.

We will all miss Robyn here because he became so much a part of this family we have here. Robyn's fart jokes are a personal thing for me. When I was growing up my Grandfather was always one to have a fart joke and when Robyn would post a fart joke it would bring back so many good memories of my Grandfather. I don't think I will ever be able to watch the Blazing Saddles camp fire scene without not only thinking about my Grandfather but Robyn too.

Like most here, I never met Robyn, yes we chatted and exchanged jokes and through these boards became friends and eventually like family. They say you can choose your friends but not your family but in this case we were able to do both with Robyn. We chose him as a friend here on the boards and welcomed him as part of our family. Robyn, like George, you will always be remembered fondly here. You will be missed but it is comforting to know you will always be with us. Thank you for all of your witt and thank you for all of the assistance you provided and most of all, thank you for including us in your life, we are all better people because of you.

Mitizi and the entire Lance family are in our thoughts and prayers and if there is ever anything we can do for you please don't hesitate to ask.

  6. Mike and Bill make a very good point. If the car is not set up to be going that fast I would not attempt it. Not only would the car need to be set up properly but it would scare me to do something like this on an open road. Not only because of the other traffic but taking the condidion of the road into the mix would be important.

  7. Rob NO there were no 4 speed ss cars NO factory convertables and NO ls6 production line installed 454 engines they are elusive because they dont exist Leo

Leo, Leo, Leo..... there you go bursting our dreams. Come on, admit it, wouldn't you love to come across one of these, if nothing else to try to debunk the owners claim. I think it would be fun to at least look over the owners documentation.

  8. I haven't dealt with them and have not heard of them. I know Bumper Boyz deals at many swap meets and they are not the best to purchase a bumper from. Good Luck with the new bumper, did it come with any kind of a warranty, if so, make sure you hang on to the receipt.

  9. The Sky is the limit.... Origionally NASA considered using one as the origional space shuttle but walked away from that idea because they were afraid with all that power it would overshoot our galaxy and transport them into a galaxy far far away..

In an honest response to your question, I don't know, maybe those with 454's installed could respond with how fast they have had theirs up to.

  10. Thank you so much for posting this Sam.

Robyn, I think you know you are an important spoke in the wheels here at the FGMCC Nation. Patsy and I send along our thoughts and prayers along to you for a speedy recovery. Please keep us updated on how things are going and let us know if there is anything we can do for you.

  11. Sam,

Even though mine doesn't have the vinyl top, Chevrolet used the same trim on the Two-Tone Painted cars to separate the colors. I don't have a closeup pictue of it but if I am not mistaken, the vertical piece that attaches the trim at the bottom of the sail panel to the portion over the windows extends about the same distance at the bottom as it does at the top. I think the vertical piece only extends a short distance, maybe an inch and a half or so at the top and bottom. I can't say this for sure but that is what I am seeing in my mind's eye.

  12. Tom,

As the others have said, I can't wait to see the pictures. Also, on the Eastern Meet. It would be great to meet you and you already realize that it is not required to have a car at one of the meets. I think most of the meets have had people in attendence without their cars and sometimes I think they have more fun than those of us with our cars there because they aren't spending hours on end cleaning and polishing them but they do get a chance to talk to more of the members.

Hope to see you at the Meet and good luck with the SS.

  13. Paul,

thanks so much for sharing that video. The Monte body that came down out of the ceiling is the same color as my origional Monte.... Any time I see an assembly line picture of a 70 Monte I wonder if it could possibly be either my origional or current Monte....... Never really seen any assembly line photo's of 2-Tone painted cars so I don't think any of them are my current one.

But again Paul, Thanks for sharing that, it was great.

  14. Lutty's is one of two suppliers here in the Pittsburgh area. The other is Muscle Cars Only www.musclecarsonly.com Both of these suppliers are very good to their customers and very competive with their prices. Both of these suppliers have donated items for our Eastern Meets to be given away as door prizes and goodie bags.

  15. I'll come by and pick up that worthless th350 from you so you don't have it taking up space in the garage! wink

This is a good example of what I love about this club. Look how unselfish Scott is here. He is willing to come pick up someone elses junk so it isn't cluttering up another members garage. Now, if I could only get someone to come take some of the "real junk" out of my garage so I could get at my Model A to fix it.

  16. Wallaby is right...the last thing you want to do is mix up the rods!!!! They are specific for each position.

I recommend cutting the headliner material and leaving the rods until your ready to put the new one in.

    Steve

Steve, this is a great suggestion. Not only does it keep the rods in the same order it allows you to see how and where everything goes back together.

If I remember correctly it has also been suggested the to lay it out for a little while to allow some of the wrinkles to work out. I know there are a lot of little tricks to any project you take on.

  17. I agree with others here. It is funny, as I read your post the same term Sam used popped into my head..... "It's Toast"

At our Eastern Meet in Bristol club founder Kevin Wiles was having some tranny problems. I think it was frist gear he was missing. We dropped the pan to change the filter and found it filled with "Chunks" rather than "Shavings". Kevin was able to limp home without problem.
