The front bumper on my 70 Monte is an aftermarket bumper.  It has been on the car well over 15 years and looks as good now as it did when I first installed it.  Regarding the fit, it is a perfect fit.  Before I installed it I did have to drill holes for my front bumper guards.  As far as the installation and adjustment...... I removed the bolts from the bumper but I did not remove the bolts mounting the bumper brackets to the frame, only the bolts mounting the bumper itself to the brackets.  I was worried about the alignment but when I raised the new aftermarket bumper to the brackets the bolts slipped right into the bracket holes with no bracket adjust adjustments.  Like I said, the fit and quality have been good since it has been on over 15 years with no chrome issues at all.

Rob, ty. What aftermarket source did you use for the bumper?

  2. My 70 has a few noticeable dings in the front and rear bumpers. They are otherwise in good shape.

Wondering if anyone has had bumpers restored, with dents and re-chromed.

The other thought was to order them through OPGI and/or another parts outlet. Anyone purchase and install aftermarket bumpers successfully?

    Thank you.

Are you recharging with R-12 or R-134?? The original owner of my car said he did the conversion before I bought the car. The air didn't work when I got the car so I had my local shop check out the car and said the poa valve hadn't been changed. We ordered a new poa valve for the R-134 system and now the ac works perfect.

    R-12

On Friday June 25, I met and talked to Jim Bernanski, who worked at the GM Baltimore Plant on the Monte Carlo Line at the time my 70 Monte Carlo was built, which was in the first week of July 1970.Grabbed the Baltimore Build Sheet and asked Jim for a photo with the car.

Is it giving you an error message? I've run into problems where the picture was too big & had to knock the resolution down to meet the forum size limit (not sure what that is either, I just kept knocking them down until it uploads).

No Message, just not uploading, will try knocking down the size.

  7. Thank you for all the replies. A shutoff valve has been placed inline on the 5/8” hose off the manifold. No leaks. No warm air. AC is back to cooling the cabin as designed.
    On to Carlisle !

When I had my AC hooked up back in 2012 I had the same problem with heat coming in thru the heater vents  Could never find out how to fix it so I had a valve put in the heater hose that I have to manually turn off in the summer or my AC does not cool off the car at all.

Can you show a photo of that setup?

A/c cars with a heater control valve should not have any warm air coming out the vents.

My 72 has nothing on the hoses or the manifold. TY for your replies.

Didn’t all these cars have “some” warm air coming from the vents with everything off? My chevelle does it also with no a/c.

My 70, no. My 72, yes. It’s a mystery to me at this point

None of my '72s (three of them) ever had that valve. I think it's done in the HVAC box with the blend doors, as far as choosing heat or cool air.

Yup, my 2nd 72, not on either one of them.

I am getting warm air through the vents of the 72. Heater door opens and closes properly, temp control lever works. Wondering if this setup on the 72 would fix that
