  1. Not exactly. It almost looks like the top of the oil filter?
  2. My neighbor pulled his 396 out of his 71 Chevelle today. He used the block/trans holes to mount the engine to the engine stand. He said when he tightened the bolt that goes through the block into the oil filter area oil started leeking down the filter on to ground? He unscrewed the filter and took it off. There is a metal piece that has two bolts going through it.it may also be screw onto the oil filter shaft, not sure.We took the two bolts out but the piece did not come out?Could it be that he tightened the bolt to much damaging that piece causing it to leak oil?If so how does that piece come out so he can replace it.Thanks for any help.
  3. I would like to install a new fuel line from the fuel tank to the fuel pump in my 72 Monte.I was wondering if there was some type flexable hose i could use for this.Seems it would be easier than installing a new steel hard line especially where it goes through the frame on both ends.If so what diameter hose would I use. Thanks for any help.
  4. I bought a Holly 80GPH mecanical fuel pump. There is a inlet and outlet but nowhere for the return fuel line? Do i need the return line or just cap it off. Thanks for any help.
  5. Hi everyone.I am looking at a rearend out of a 70 Gs Buick.Ad says new 3:73 gears, axils, bearings, and auburn posi unit 800.00 or best offer.Does that sound good? Will this fit in my 72 Monte? Are there any modifications that will need to be made? thanks for your help. Andy
  6. Hi everyone.Ran into a problem when I bolted my tans up to my engine today.Background-Trans is my original 350 rebuilt street/strip. Torque converter is a stock unit that was rebuilt to 2300/2600 stall that i bought from D and E trans.here in Detroit area.Block is a 95-2000 GM performance Vortec Gen 1 rollar cam,one piece rear main.I made sure the torque converter was all the way on the imput shaft.Bolted the trans to the engine, did not force anything, went together perfect.Problem is the gap between the t-converter bolt pad and the flexplate pad is about a half inch maybe a little less.I have read that with t-converter pushed all the way into the trans this gap should be between 1/8 and 3/16 then you pull the t-converter to the flexplate and bolt it up.I have read you con use washers to fill the gap? When doing this you have to make sure the converter pilot also is seated in the back of the crank. So if the t-converter is to far out from the trans it will ruin the front pump and if the pilot is no all the way into the crank i guess i could have problems also.I found a GM performance parts flexplate/crankshaft adapter/spacer at Jegs part#809-12563532.Its a 10mm spacer desined for a LS1 type motor to a 1997 and earlier turbo 350 trans.dont know if my block is a LS1 type?Maybe this is what i need?More info.Engine and trans are out of car.Flexplate is on correct raised pads towards trans, weight on engine side.No burs, rust.or paint on trans pegs, crankshaft end,or pilot.also used some grease on end of pilot and in back of crank to prevent binding.Obviously I dont have that problem. All this makes me nervous as i dont want to ruin a lot of expensive parts due to a stupid little mistake. Thanks for any help.I guess that is it.It took me longer to type this than it would have to put the engine back into the car! Thanks Andy. Car is a 72 Monte Carlo.
  7. Hi everyone.I pulled the engine and trans out of my 72 Monte today. These are the heads that are on the engine.I assume they are original. It is a 350 4 barrel car.I would like to build an engine around 400hp.Would these heads be good for this or should I look for somthing else.Time to clean and paint the engine compartment. Thanks Andy.
  8. Sorry Larry the compressor is frozen up.Has anyone used the firewall a/c delete box from original parts group. It is on sale right now for 119.95. Thanks.
  9. I am taking all the A/C parts off of my 72 Monte.Does anyone know where I can get an a/c delete box to cover the hole in the fire wall. Thanks.
  10. Can anyone tell me if there would be much of a difference between 1.94 and 2.02 iron heads on a street motor around 375-400hp.Thanks.
  11. Can anyone tell me if a 12 bolt rear end out of a 70 cutlas would fit into my 72 Monte. If so would anything have to be done to driveshaft,u-joints ect.A guy in my area is selling one for 200 dollars.drum to drum. Thanks.
  12. Where is a good place to get a front end bolt kit for my 70 monte. Thanks.
  13. Can anyone tell me what the correct color is for the exhaust manifolds is for my 70 SS Monte, silver or gray. Also is there a better color process that will hold up better than heat paint. They have been bead blasted nice and clean. It seems that headders and exhaust manifolds are the first areas that want to rust after a few years.Thanks.
  14. Ed,when you say dust shield do you mean the shield that covers the torque converter?
  15. Mine is #48 forrest green, original paint, bulit in flint Michigan and as stated in above post does not have black rocker pannels.I will be having the car repainted in the near future the original color and plan on keeping the car as close to showroom condition as I can.The question is when I have it repainted do I have the rockers blacked out or do I have the rockers painted forrest green as it came from the factory. Andy
  16. Thankyou Kevin. My 70 Monte is forest green and does not have black rockers. It has all its original paint, not in the best shape but original.I have talked to the original owner of my car who bought it brand new from Muskatel Chevrolet in 1970 and he tells me the car has never been repainted.Does anyone know a chevy person that painted or assembled these cars back in the day that can give us the true story Andy.
  17. I have seen the pictures and know the areas that should be painted black. My question still is if these areas are not painted black should we assume the car has been repainted or could it have come from the factory without the black rockers and lower sill area.
  18. So if a 70-72 Monte Carlo does not have black door jambs and rocker pannels it must be because it had been repainted at some time or could it have come from the factory that way?
  19. Did all SS Monte Carlos come with black rocker pannels and door jams?
  20. Thanks for all the info. Dave and Steve, and Kliegl. The z-code is the last item listed on the window sticker. Andys70SS
  21. I was reading some of the old topics in the 454 forum the other day.I read that all SS cars came with black steering wheels and columns.I have a 1970 SS454 Monte that has everything it is supose to have.It has the SS454 emblems on the lower front fenders. It has the 454 engine, turbo 400 trans,12 bolt rear end,air compressor under the hood, all plastic air lines, clips, and brass fittings, leaveler control arm attached to the rear control arm,1 1/8 sway bar up front(I measured It),rear sway bar, shock protector plates,Original G70x15 spare tire in the trunk and even has all the factory exhaust hangers.BUT IT DOES NOT HAVE A BLACK STEERING WHEEL AND COLUMN?The car is dark Forrest green with green vynal top and interior. The steering wheel and column are green. It has a bench seat, column shift no guages. The car does not have a build sheet,it was built in flint. It came with the original window sticker, but is not in the greatest shape. It shows the Z part of the code and then there is a whole in the sheet and then a partial word (ment) and then the price of 420.25.SO it reads like this 6Z (where hole is) ment----420.25.I know this was the right price for the SS454 equipment.THe person I buoght the car from gave me the name of the original owner when I was thinking about buying the car who lived in Minnisota.I took a chance and called information and his number was listed.I called him up and told him I was thinking about buying the SS454 monte he use to own.He was more than happy to talk about the car,I talked to him two times for a total of about 5 hours. He told me that he and his brother went and bought the car at Muskatell Chevrolet in Fargo North Dakota in 1970 for his wife who loved and drove the car untill it was parked in the barn in1982.It sat in the barn untill 1992 when he sold it to the guy I bought it from.He told me the entire history of the car and that it was a true SS and that was all I need to hear and I bought it.Any ideas why my steering wheel and column are not black? Can any one fill in the missing information on my window sticker. Thanks andys70SS.
  22. Hey guys just looking at some of my old old Super Chevy Limited club magazines from Dec.1984.On the back cover where they show the readers rides is a picture of a 1971 SS 454 Monte Carlo. The description states that the Monte is a very rare LS6 model. The guys name is Robert Shewan and he lives in Sydney Australia. You would figure if the car was a real LS6 he would still own it even after all this time.Who in there right mind would sell a real LS6 Monte.Does anyone know if there is a way to search this guy out and see if he still has it,or find out what happened to it.I just thought I would throw this info. out there you never know it could lead to somthing.
