  1. To me, all 3 are essential. GM Service Manual, Assembly Manual, and Fisher Body Manual.

    The GM overhaul manual comes in handy sometimes, but focus more on specific parts such as the transmission, rear diff, power steering pump/gear, etc. It's a deep dive in the repair/overhaul of major parts.

    You can buy a CD with all 4 manuals on it for around $35 from a couple different sources. I tend to like the paper manuals though, so I have those on hand for the year cars I own, as well as the CD's.

After looking at my old harness, it appears that the power for that switch goes thru the Radio/TCS Solenoid 10 Amp fuse, thru the power bulkhead in the engine compartment, and then to a short pigtail harness that goes thru a hole in the firewall to the Accelerator switch. From there, it would go to the transmission mounted switch.

    Dave and I were on the phone a few times and were both using multimeters at the same time, on our perspective harnesses, figuring out the circuit, lol. He doesn't appear to have power coming thru the engine side wire, which could be as simple as a poor connection at the bulkhead mating halves, or as bad as a broken wire. He tried to move the bulkhead connection a bit, but its location, plus it being bolted together produced no favorable results.

    We decided, If later attempts to re-seat the bulkhead don't work, a short jumper from a switched fuse block stab will work to power up the circuit.

    None of the diagrams or manuals I have showed that accelerator pedal switch.

    I can't find any diagrams or schematics that show the T-400 (M40) trans wiring either. One place suggested that the feed wire came from one of the 12V switched stabs on the fuse block and goes to one side of the accel. pedal switch. I can't verify that though. Maybe I'll go up in the attic and see what my old harness shows. Can you trace any wires from the switch connector back?

    Thank you Joe! I went through my AMK kit and didn't see those items. It seems that I must have lost one item and ended up needing a few others that were not included in my kit.

    I'm still looking into the side marker ones, so don't order anything just yet. The tail light numbers are good though.

    EDIT:

    For the front markers, your assembly manual will be page 12C-3, items 2 & 3. Those numbers look good for the G-4201 kit.

    I don't believe them in regards to the rear, I think just using the same type screws as the front markers will work fine (B-12152)

     

    So, I'd either order 2 of the G-4201 ($3.50 each), or get some bulk kits, with all the fasteners, and some left over.

    Realistically though, NAPA would have J-nuts that work, plus some #8 screws. Would be a lot cheaper once you figure in shipping.

    NY is the same as far as sales tax, but the yearly registration fee (2 years in a lot of cases) is not quite as bad. Usually under a couple hundred dollars, at least on my vehicles. Naturally,  a bit more if you have personalized plates.

    Those are the same front ones I got for my Monte, from Amazon. They were $77 at the time (May 2023), and $91 now, in stock, free shipping, would be delivered on Monday. The Tire Rack number looks like it is for 1973 and later applications, at least in Summit's application list. The number above I used, has 1968-72 listed.

    Amazon also has the rears (24-009294) in stock $94, deliverable by Sunday. Don't know why Tire Rack says June.

  7. I initially had put KYB shocks on my Monte (72 Custom which includes the larger front sway bar that the F41 suspension offered). Car seemed to be a little soft with those shocks on it, especially on the highway. I decided to try the Bilstein's after that. As mentioned, they cost more, but do seem to ride better and provide more control. Only thing I did was remove the stickers, paint them, then re-apply the trimmed down stickers. I painted the blue boot with black vinyl dye as well.

  9. Opgi is most people's last resort here. All based on prior experiences. 

     

    Pretty sure I used the Parts Place kits when I rebuilt my hinges. As long as the holes in the hinge itself aren't out of round from excessive wear, the kits are good. Otherwise the bushings will still be sloppy, and the door will still move around. I've welded the wear areas up in the past and drilled them for the bushings to fit though, but that's not the normal wear situation.

    Below is the email I got from Chris, regarding Holley parts, prices. Clicking the link that mentions the 'Spreadsheet of all 8201' part numbers will actually get you the list as a download. I looked at it briefly, but it's big.

     

     

    Usually there is not too much in our business that is truly "newsworthy".  Sure, new products come out, some that are quite innovative.  But generally, nothing that competes with what the 24-hour news cycle is throwing at us.  And that's a good thing!

    But I wanted to give you some insight on something that is going on at Holley that may be worthy of your attention.  Their new CEO has been on the job for almost a year and apparently has moved from analysis to action.  Holley has identified more than 34 thousand part numbers for obsolescence.  Most of these have already been removed from inventory but there are yet over 8 thousand parts that remain in stock and have been tagged for immediate clearance.  And the pricing they set shows they are serious about clearing these out right away.

    EFI systems have certainly been affected by this decision.  While the most popular systems will not be discontinued or discounted there are some GREAT products that are going to be discontinued and blown out simply due to their sales numbers.  Take, for example, the original Sniper EFI System in gold.  Strong performer, but in a color appreciated by fewer buyers.  It is currently on sale for it's normal price, $1291.95.  On Monday, the price on our website drops by almost $400 to $904.36.  Or perhaps you'd been dreaming about a Sniper 2x4 EFI System but balked at the $2,353.95 price tag.  On Monday, the price on EFI System Pro is 1647.76--a reduction of over $700.

    A couple of important notes.  First, every part affected by these price reductions is offered "while supplies last".  When the last one is sold, that's it.  They are obsolete and no more will be made.

    Second, in some cases, we are offering even greater savings than Holley.  They have removed our pricing restrictions and are letting us set the prices as we see fit.  So, for example, the magnetic pickup ignition harness that has already dropped from $81.95 to $53.37 will drop to $40.16 on Holley's website on Monday...and to $39.15 on EFI System Pro.  Less than half price!

    Because we do offer all the 8 thousand items slated for clearance, and since we don't have all of them on the website, there are two ways to see everything.  You can, of course, visit Holley.Com on Monday and sift through their website.  Or, for geeks like me, I've created and posted a spreadsheet of all 8201 products on clearance, along with their price and the quantity in stock.  Either way, when you find something too cheap to pass up, just email a note and we'll get things rolling.  As always, we're offering free shipping and no sales tax to shipments outside of Florida.
