Thanks guys. I did some research on my own and came up with a 7041200 being the correct carb for my 71. Picture included.

however, as I said , I got the number off of the existing carb and it certainly works good but the number does not correspond with the correct one. It is a 7044223 . Which indicates it was for a 1974 Chevy or gmc 454 standard transmission.. truck…  it doesn’t appear to be an 800 cfm carb as it doesn’t have a bulge on left Venturi. Stamped on the side  is “ mfg by Carter for GMC. Could not locate any date stamp . How they got around the transmission part I don’t know , unless it has a different base.. what’s crazy is. It runs great. Except for the linkage problem. So, I’m not sure what type of linkage arrangement the proper carb would have. The 7041200. I’ll try look at one online and see. Any input, let me know, Ron…

PS. So I’m thinking I need to check on those different clips for the linkage that Paul posted a picture of. 👍🏻

If you car is a 1971 big block with th400 tranny the correct carb number is : 7041204 unless it was a california car.

Great!. Thank you , I’ll get the number off of this one this week while off work and get back with you to see if it’s compatible or comparable. If that’s ok.  The can is a Kansas City car . Appreciate the help Paul. Welcome to the site .

It appears that the choke is a for a small block car.

Big block choke rods and retainer clip is different . The clip is round and shouldn't hange up in the choke linkage slot. Will try to send you a pic if I can figure out how since I am new here.

Thanks Paul, I’ll have to check this out.. I’ve had the car 8 years and have been told the carb was changed sometime before then.. now I will do some meticulous research on whether i  even have to right Qjet. Ron….

I still have an Eric burden and the animals 8 track.

2008 version of Eric Burdens House of the rising son, and we gotta get out of this place. Extra long 5 minutes and 10 minutes respectively… man got  better with age!!!…  all my cassettes, cds are digital now.. on computer or phone.. still have dozens of those cassette and cds but nothing to play them on anymore.. sad…

  5. Besides having done the leveling compressor brackets , winter projects for the 71 are bucket seats redone and minor paint repairs with correct paint mixture , spray gun and clear coat .. seats already out waiting on upholstery place to call.. plus purchasing a part from mega parts post ‘ Jared’ to bring 454 into proper detail… IMG_2042.thumb.jpeg.ccf5dd1bbacede8912522e263a5d96b3.jpegIMG_2043.thumb.jpeg.4c1a368c055dce1bbf56ad83ba263a4b.jpegmore lights added in car port so I can see clearly to work on this bad boy .. 71 says “ well, can you see me now !”IMG_2045.thumb.jpeg.a583eb743e352ff909f226ba2fa1dfe1.jpeg

  7. IMG_2027.thumb.jpeg.8b306418da2fd6a59f185ff8282713ae.jpegI still prefer the raised white letters on a Monte muscle car. Or gentleman’s muscle car as has been said. It was a big thing where I grew up to see a hi power 60s or early 70s muscle car with crager chrome wheels and raised white lettering tires , and a deep rumble coming from the exhaust,  at the drive in on a Saturday night .. very popular back then and very fitting to the era now .. 8. The 71 was missing the load leveler compressor brackets when I got the car, but thanks to DPJ fabrication in Missouri I now have and have installed the correct compressor brackets.. DPJ fabricator is owned by one of our FGMCCs members “ Dan Janes “.. Aka,  “ overdrive”.. on the club site…  Thanks Dan for your commitment to the FGMCC and first gen Monte Carlo’s .. 9. Been with State Farm since the 70s. Yes , rates have increased about 25 % over the last two years. Have 7 policies with them including house and blgds. I complained but to no avail. There answer was two fold” 1. Well, sorry, but the price of parts has increased much more than that “. 2. Well, sorry. That’s what boys with toys should expect to pay “. Ha!. Appraisals have increased last two years also, which increases taxes as well.. worked hard to get this house and “toys”.. as they say. Evidently I’m being penalized for having , “things”… just saying. Ron

Beautiful view of your property Ron. Glad you got it patched and are weathertight. Some steep pitches up there. Not worth taking a chance of getting injured doing your roof. Let the roofing professionals take care of it for you. Be safe.

Thanks, I’ve never been afraid of heights , I’m just afraid of coming down too quickly and stopping even quicker. 😁. It’s difficult to get a roofer w/o waiting weeks around here.. no family close... but the rest will and can wait .. besides that, I promised Rob,, no more ladders after I had back surgery...

You're a crazy man and maybe part monkey.

Are you going to replace the whole roof yourself or hire someone?  I can do a lot of things but others I leave to the professionals.

Wasn't it you who told me "no more ladders for me"?

    rob

I’m just mule headed- I did a lot of planning on taking the route up to the peak and back down - it did include foam... it rained here yesterday morning before I patched it.. there was a split in the tar paper underneath also .. it ended up raining all day here today and even more tonight.. the wind also lifted the drip railing above the trim on that side, but like you said , that part will wait till someone about 40 years younger than me to do that, and the whole roof...
