  1. Gentlemen- Thank you so much for the responses! This has been very helpful. Like some of you have said "Let the fun begin". Owner's manual is on order. Making a parts list now. It looks like one could eat off of some of y'alls engine bays. Dang. Hoping I can get mine that clean one day.
  2. My MC was delivered about 3 days ago and I'm digging into it a little each day. Power steering isn't working, lost a control arm busing in my driveway, etc... With that said, I think I'm just going to rebuild the front suspension so I know it's all good. Any suggestions for rebuild kits? Shock/spring brands, places purchased, etc...? I also have a headlight out. Anyone upgrade to Xenon, LED, etc...? Since I put them in my Tundra, I'm a little spoiled. Finally, anyone have a picture of their 454 layout under the hood with air conditioning? It looks like the car came with AC and the condenser is present, but the compressor, etc... is not. Curious as to how it all lays out. Thanks in advance for your help. T. J.
  3. Gorgeous color combo, BTW. Thanks for sharing!
  4. What size tires do you have on it? In my head, the car should have BFG T/A's so I'm going to order some, but wanted to check what others were running first. Mine has 235's in the front and they seem small.
  5. Since roughly 1986 it had been my dream to own a 1970 Monte SS with power windows in triple black. I knew it was a unicorn. I had started searching seriously about 4 years ago in hopes of getting it for my 50th birthday. I had a couple I was interested in but the prices were $40K+ and I didn't want anything I had to rebuild. It had to be as turnkey as possible. I've got a lot of reasons to have faith and trust God's timing but honestly, I was really struggling with if owning one was ever going to happen. Fast forward to today when my unicorn arrived in the enclosed trailer. The emotions can't even be put into words. I just wish my dad was still around. I was there when he found his dream car (1964 Cadillac Coupe de Ville) and I so wanted to share this moment with him since he was the one who ignited my love of classic cars. However, instead I share it with y'all because I know how much these cars mean to you. With that said, I'm going to have some questions as I have officially entered into Monte Carlo ownership. Please show me some grace if I ask something stupid. I'm just trying to learn all I can about this beautiful machine. Thank you to all of you who encouraged me in the past to continue my search. Your support truly helped.
  6. What is the widest tire that can fit on a factory rim, back and front? I want to keep the original rallys but put as wide as a tire as possible on it. Sorry for the seemingly generic question, but I don't have my hands on my Monte yet. It's being shipped to me this week and I want to make it my own! Thanks in advance for the help.
  7. Gentlemen- Thank you. I knew I could count on this forum for help. Hopefully one day I'll actually own my dream car and be able to be "officially official" here. Thank you, again. You've saved me a bunch of time and money. I appreciate the help. T. J.
  8. Looking at buying a 70 MC with a 72 front end. What are the differences between the 70 and 72 front ends other than the grille? If I want to make this all a 70, would I need a whole new clip? Thank you in advance for the help. T. J.
  9. Has anyone added power windows to a non PW vehicle?

    Buying assistance

Okay guys, I'm looking to finally purchase my 1970 Monte. Since I can't seem to find my unicorn (Triple black 70 SS 454 with PW, buckets, automatic), I'm going to purchase something close and make it mine. With that said, I know purchasing one of these is all about personal preference. However, I would like opinions on what others think about my dilemma. Please no peanut gallery comments. This is a very big decision for me. My goal is this: Have a nice 70 SS Monte that I can cruise to car shows with my daughter in. I don't want a maintenance queen but I also can't afford $35-$40K for something off a rotisserie. With that said, here is some common info on both and then the differences below that: COMMON: Neither is #'s matching. Both have had some engine mods completed. Both are Midwestern babies. Both are 70 SS cars, black on black, with power windows. Both are automatics. Both have 12 bolt posi Differences Vehicle 1: Bench seat, column shift, cloth seats, no factory tach, some wiring work was done to try and make it a push button start vehicle (why, I don't know). 454 base with mods, now a 505. 650 horse with build sheet, new 1/4s, new trunk pan, new inner fenders, paint relatively new (about 3 years). Vehicle 2: Interior exactly as I want it. The engine, though, is an old school BEAST. 454 base, bored out .60 over, roller cam, manual valve body, dual carbs on a high rise with a snorkel sticking out of the hood. Older paint (about 30 years, starting to peel around rear body/tail lamp connection to 1/4's. Runs on 93 octane or better only. I'm guessing HP is similar, if not a little higher. Price difference is $5K (veh 1 is 5k more). To "make it mine": Vehicle 1 needs: bucket seats, tilt column, change from column to floor , probably a new carpet, and a factory tach changeover. Vehicle 2 needs: new engine (not even going to think about trying to de-claw that beast), new paint, probably some new suspension as it's been setting for about 3 years. So there's my dilemma. Let me hear your thoughts.
  12. Team- THIS is why I joined this group. The amount of knowledge y'all just vomited on top of me was outstanding. I can't thank you enough. I'm in the middle of trying to decide on one of two to purchase and this type of detail helps me tremendously. I still can't decide, but I'll figure it out. Maybe that'll be my next post.
  13. Hey all, been looking at a 70 MC SS that does not have a factory tach to the left of the speedo. If I remember correctly, there's a fuel gauge there instead. Since I'm new to these, I have a couple of questions: 1. Was the factory tach considered an option in 1970? 2. If the vehicle did not have a tach, is the wiring still in place for the tach so if someone wanted to change the gauge cluster, they could without changing the entire harness? Thank you in advance for the help.
  14. DragCat- Thank you for the info. I appreciate you keeping an eye out. It's close, but not quite what I'm looking for. It has to be a 70. JFT69Z and MC1of80- You guys are the reason I joined the group. Your knowledge of detail on these machines is ridiculous and, if you don't mind, when I do find my unicorn, I'd love your view on it from afar. I'm a details guy but admittedly don't know as much about these as I'd like to. Thanks to y'all, I'm learning quickly. I truly do appreciate your input. Thank you to everyone for your help and welcome thus far. Hopefully if I keep branching out, it'll come up soon.
  15. Everyone- Thank you for the warm welcome! It's great to be a part of a group like this. I appreciate your suggestions and will take them to heart. I'm keeping things flexible as far as my wish list, but not so much so that I'll have to shell $10K to make it what I want. The hunt is on! Take care, T. J.
  16. Hey all. Just joined the group because I'm looking for my unicorn. I'm looking for a 1970 Monte SS 454 in Tuxedo Black with buckets and power windows. This is my "dream car" and, having just turned 50, it's time for me to find it. I've sunk a lot of time and money into projects and I'm looking for something turnkey. Any help would be appreciated. BTW, my screen name is the initials of my company: Before You Buy Inspection Services. We are a full service inspection company for homes, commercial buildings, and, of course, automobiles. If I can help any of my fellow ladies and gents with OCD (Old Car Disease). please let me know. Thank you in advance for your help! BTW, I'm in Texas. T. J.
