Finally decided on this wheel combo,

I wanted to drift away from the stock rally look and without spending a ton of money for new rims.

The smaller beauty rings were in my junk area and I spent about $100 on Amazon for the smaller derby caps. Both are excellent quality.

I've really never been totally fond of the stock rally combo, especially with raised letters or black walls. I'm hoping this will look good with either the WW, Black or raised letters, giving me a wider range of tires to choose from… I decided on the dark paint because it blends well with the darkened windows…

I've had the side windows dark for over thirty years and so far the cops haven't said anything. Even got a speeding ticket about ten years ago and nothing was said.

Just my two cents… the white wall makes it look too much like a target. Too many “rings”… white wall, black side wall, chrome, trim ring, black wheel and center cap. A black sidewall tire would break it up nicely.  Even raised white lettering would probably look better than the white walls.

A quick  place to start looking for that build sheet would be behind the right front fender between the inner fender and firewall.  That’s where I found mine just recently (Kansas City/Leeds Plant build also). Removing the 3/8 bolt at the bottom of the fender that helps secure the plastic inner fender behind  the wheel will let you push in the inner fender to take a look. Glen had said that was one of the known places the Leeds plant put them.

Yes… as told to me by Bob, it was shredded beyond reconstruction.  One I have was from under the carpet, front passenger floorboard. This one unfortunately, is hard to read as it was soaked with coolant as a result of a leaky heater core at some point in its lifetime.  You have to hit it with a flashlight to read it, but it’s there.  Don’t remember where Bob said the second one I have for the ‘71 was located, but it’s in good shape.  Happy hunting and please report back with your findings.

Based on the car hoarding we do, the parts hoarding we do and all the money we spend on these cars I think we all need some type of therapy. But not the type as discussed above that’s reserved for the “ finest” ( if you know what I mean).

I see what ya did there…

First off that disclaimer reads like your life story. You may want to take a look in the mirror and plan corrective action. Just saying. But I digress. But after some therapeutic discussions we’ve come to the conclusion that one of us is a “ tool” and the other is just fine and very tolerant. I will leave that answer up for public debate.

See???  This right here ⬆️. THIS is progress. This is Couples Therapy bearing fruit.  Only I believe the Doc said your “assessments” need to stay in the session and out of public forums.  It’s with great anticipation that I look forward to the remaining 29 sessions tentatively scheduled.

And all this time I thought Joe was just the instigator in the periphery. The jerk throwing fuel on the fire. Turns out he DOES have a conscience and perhaps a portion of a heart, otherwise he wouldn’t have assumed the role of interventionist.

    The healing continues 🤗

I hope you two work things out. Maybe we'll have to have "safe spaces" at future meets.

I hope you both also reflect on how this affects your female significant partners during the process. Ive never met Karen so I can't comment, but I think its safe to say Amy will always be welcome with open arms even if she drives Vicky 🍺

Someone’s been watching Dr. Phil reruns.

At Joe’s suggestion, Dennis and I have begun Couples Therapy.  The very first session was a breakthrough success.

HIPAA constraints prohibit me from disclosing particulars, but in order for me to better understand Dennis’s deep-rooted deficiencies while continuing strides towards recovery, I’m compelled to share that a culmination of banana-related hijinks at the hands of his FGMCC brethren has been identified as the main contributing factor.

It seems Dennis is the victim of classic ‘CBS’ - Chronic Bullying Syndrome.

I hope you’re all happy with what you’ve done to my buddy.

    JUST A NOTE TO ALL.

I RECEIVED AN EMAIL SUGGESTING WE KEEP AN EYE ON THIS STRING.

IN THE ABOVE MESSAGES SOME PEOPLE WHO DON'T KNOW ALL OF THE PARTICIPANTS VERY WELL MAY THINK THIS THREAD HAS BEEN CONFRONTATIONAL.

THIS IS NOT THE CASE AT ALL, IT IS A GROUP OF VERY GOOD FRIENDS.

PLEASE, note the many smiley faces in the thread and you may note that it isn't confrontational at all but just a bunch of guys having fun poking jabs at each other.

    rob

Funny you mention this, Rob. I also received an email expressing concern over this thread.

Being naturally suspicious, I “called in a favor” with the fellas at the Cybercrime Unit. Seems the IP address associated with the originating server belongs to a “Tennis Dretter”.

Things that make you go 🤔🤔🤔

Around here I wouldn't even believe screenshots, the way "some" people photoshop ....🤣 And I stand innocent until proven otherwise 😁

I’m with you, dude.  Anyone can photoshop a conversation. Or, if you’re feeling extra motivated, enlist the help of a buddy to text a totally scripted conversation … AFTER you change their name to that of the person you’d like to have some fun with.  Just remember to change the contact info back when you’re done, otherwise you might wind up texting things to “Joe” when you think you’re texting “Dennis”.  Confusing?  Perhaps a tad, but well worth the entertainment…

Not that I’ve ever done something so devious 😉

Glen, it would be interesting to see if the one on your car have casting or part numbers.

When I have the time I’ll take a closer look and get the camera zoomed in on them.

There is a GM Part #465840 as supplied by Joe (Dennis supplied the insults and belittling quips).  Whether this number appears on the shields is yet to be seen.

  10. “The parts catalog does show a shield for all 72-75 402, 454. but only shields for small blocks prior to 72”

Thanks, Paul **.  I’ll assume the ones on my ‘71 were added by Bob or someone else at some point.

So in the interest of keeping the ‘70 original when the time comes, I will refrain from purchasing them and adding them to the pile of OE parts I’ve been accumulating.

**  See, Dennis. Paul answered my question without resorting to telling me “you were such an ugly baby that your Mom tried to return you”, “Mongo couldn’t find drugs in a medicine cabinet” etc, etc. You could probably learn a lot from a guy like Paul.

  12. Looking for confirmation either way whether the ‘70 SS’s / Big Blocks came with the plug heat shields. My ‘71 DOES have them, ‘70 currently does NOT.

Joe was kind enough to hit pause on his Columbus Day festivities to check his library, but literature he found showed just the small blocks having them.

Dennis chimed in, but his contribution to my question devolved into name calling, belittling and the typical bullying for which he’s famous. I truly believe he finds great pleasure in non-answers and non-sensical blather at my expense.  Must be residual effects from various head injuries he’s sustained.

But I digress… heat shields as OE on ‘70 big blocks. Yes or no?

Ok guys I didn’t find a build sheet under passenger seat or under the back seat. Where else should I look? On the plus side the floor pans actually look nice.

Behind the seat backs. Under the dash pad. On the back of the door panels.
