  1. Hey Bob,

When I replaced my steering box I just left the unit loose from the frame and there was enough play to get the rag joint in without pulling the steering column.

Mind you, it was a factory type box from a late model Grand Cherokee, but the dimensions should be the same.

    Hope that helps, Scott.

  2. Even someone with those skillsets can make a mess of it..... My passenger's door gap proved that.  :(

As has been said, everything interacts with everything else. But if you have the time and a high tolerance for repeating things, you could get a fairly good idea of what to do by looking at the whole thing several times. Get to know where ALL the bolts are,(under the fender, behind the door, down the firewall, behind the battery or washer tank....) and which direction things will move if you add/remove shims before you jump into it. And a second set of hands is helpful to, to hold things in place while you make those adjustments.

Best of luck, should you choose to complete the mission. ;)

  3. Hey Mark,

Just from what I've heard at local cruise events, the general opinion is to change all the ignition components if you're upgrading.... That way you're sure to get parts that are made to work together and give you the best results. Less chance of something burning out and damage the rest of the system as well.

I'm sure there are different opinions based on personal experiences, but this made sense to me.

  4. Just like the mid eighties Buick Regals....... You could order a T-Type with all the fun parts of a Grand National, and in any colour including black...... But the emblems were unique to the G.N.

    Couple interesting facts about G.N.'s.

The computer had a speedometer limiter that the T's didn't, and some insurance companies had very restrictive policies for G.N.s that didn't apply to equally equipped T-Types. Confused the heck out of my agent.

  5. If I remember right, the article was in a Car Craft magazine, or one of those type..... Anyone remember those ??

I remember seeing my first 1970 SS in '84. Sitting at the lights, Black/Black, burpy idle, and the driver looked old enough to have probably purchased an original Model T. ;)

  6. I'm just curious.....

When I first became interested in Montes.... Back in the late '70's..... I was led to believe that there were only 2 1970 Monte SS's that left the assembly line with manual transmissions. Were the rest dealer installs or am I just mis informed ?
