Good news that you found the problem, Leo.

Sometimes it's the simple, but hidden things that cause troubles. And people wonder why I hate working on cars, lol.

And here I thought it was because your easy chair wasn't in the garage..... :k

I’ve had good luck with NAPA and O’Reilly. Each battery lasted a little over five years. I’m not too concerned about the color because with the hood down and sitting in the driver seat, you can’t see it anyway.

It ain't easy being green..... lol

Is $200.00 usd the going rate for a good battery these days ???

I paid $120.00 cdn for an Interstate last fall, and that was the second highest they carried.

    Hi Scott,

I am going to look at pushrod length.

However, the pics of the arms are exactly what I was looking for. Those give a good indication of the differences. Thank YOU!

And the plating is probably bright zinc, but still incorrect, hah!

    Best regards,

    Tom

    Hi Tom...

These are both aftermarket "high performance" replacement items. I don't think G.M. makes them, but, like you said, they should give you an idea of the difference....

The push rod should be 5.75" long by 0.50" dia. Same rod for both big and small blocks.

9th week of 2010 if I’m reading that correctly. At 14 years old there is certainly a risk. A member had an old BFG come apart on the front of his 72 Monte on the way to the Western Meet one year. It did a lot of damage to the car.

Week or Month ??? I've heard different opinions.

  6. We don't have as many options up here.... It was the vanilla and chocolate creme sandwiches for years, but they're not as good since they switched brands.

    The chocolate-mint wafers are still O.K. :)

  7. When I was a kid, my Grandmother was a guide leader...... I still remember the pallet of cookies arriving and sitting on the living room every year.

Mind you, they were a buck a box back then, and that was still a lot for a kid to come up with. And she didn't take credit. lol

  8. Hello Leo, and welcome. :)

I had an issue something similar on a '76 Chev C-10 years ago.

when the key was in the off position, the accessories still had power.....

I found that the actual ignition switch on the column was loose and out of adjustment. Sometimes they get that way as they get older.

By the way, is your Monte a column or console shift ?

  9. Hey Tom,

Are you using a "W" block or Mark 4 block ?

Rumour is that the Mark 4 uses a different pump, whereas the "W" uses the same one as a small block except with a bigger holding tank and discharge fittings.

Hope that helps, and welcome to the machine. ;)
