I am planning to paint an engine soon. What do you guys recommend for paint? Any tips on prep before paint?
Thanks!!
Mike
I painted mine in the car. I Do not recommend it.
if you pull the engine watch out for the radiator when engine swings toward it.

Normally I would agree on the POR15 products but I used their high temp exhaust manifold paint on my exhaust manifolds and was not very happy with the end results. I followed the instructions completely and they did not keep their cast iron coloring as expected. For my engine paint I got my Chevy Engine Orange spray paint from Lutty's Chevy Parts in Pennsylvania and am very happy with the way it has held up.

I too was not happy with manifold paint. I am still deciding if I want to take em off & have them done.
I can’t seem to not have rusty manifolds ☹️ -

Dennis, from looking at the thread, I am thinking they are talking about the foil backed sound deadening material you can get that is foil backed sticky backed tar like material that people put on the floors and metal side panels. If I am not mistaken Chevrolet mostly put a thick tar paper like substance between the metal floor boards and the carpet to deaden sound. Maybe someone else will step up and give more input.

Correct. Looks like Dynamat is the way to go.

Mine had that sticky tar stuff seen on floor all the way up to the top of the back seat originally. But like I said the bake time in paint booth took care of that

Is that considered a modification?🤣🤣

Where does one find the longer hold down rod?
If I recall correctly I had an issue with rod not being long enough but when I played with how tire & jack was installed it worked. But that’s been a long time ago. I’ll try to look at mine & see again

How do you like the Cooper tires compared to the Goodrich ?? I get varying opinions on both.
Love the colour.....
I like cooper tires. They used to be made in my hometown before we sent manufacturing abroad. I typically get coopers on all vehicles. As far as I can recall I’ve never run Goodrich tires on anything

Can anyone tell me if there is any indication on the column shift part of steering column where the column shift indicator wire would be attached? This is on a 1970 Monte! when working under the dash I must have knocked the wire loose and now am not sure where on the column or how it should be attached. The wire is intact and I can pull it to run it thru the Park thru L2 movements but I don't see any place on the column where is was or needs to be attached. If someone would have a picture or diagram that would help. Or is it a trial and error thing?
Thanks much and hope this makes sense. I still drive the Monte since we all know we don't need the indicator but would like to reconnect it.

Did you get this fixed? I can dig up a picture for you that MIGHT help. But I don’t want to mess with looking for it if you don’t need it.

Where would you get that? I’ve tried looking to no avail

I put a 700R4 tranny on my 70 small block. It has sniper EFI and runs great. I set timing for high torque & it really worked. Gotta be careful with the accelerator now. She’s TOUCHY!

I have new headliner. Debating having it done or doing it.
What don’t I know that I should? -

Original color of speaker covers?
in Interior Tech

I cut mine own out. I do not know if the package tray that was in the car when I got it was original. But I believe it was. I looked at how it was done & mimicked that. The holes I cut out line up with the holes in the metal.
you have to get the holes for speaker cover screws absolutely perfectly aligned. That was fun.
