  1. I have a 402 to drop in my 71. I am looking for some expertise here on what i have. The block casting is a 3999290 block pad near passenger side head reads CE250510. The heads are the rectangle ports with "hi performance" stamped in them with the casting of 3964291. Any help is appreciated. I am also considering selling this motor and keeping it a small block car if anyone is interested.
  2. If your loosing a lot of coolant out of the overflow check your radiator cap. I had the same issue. I changed the cap with no overflow and it's fixed
  3. I had just built the vortec 350 over the winter too and it runs great and now this 402 came up and I'd really like to make it a big block car. The motor ran good in the other car but since I'm not in desperate need of an engine I am just going to slowly build it over about 2 years time. Another question I have is that I believe the th350 will bolt to the 402? But I am not positive on that?
  4. I plan on pulling the heads to have them ported and put a matching cam in it. I'd be doing the labor myself except for the machine work.
  5. I have an oppertunity to buy a complete pan to intake running 402 big block for $800. It blows blue smoke so it may need valve seals or rings. Block casting is 3999290 and has "hi perf" stamped in the heads. Any ideas if this is worth it? I currently have a 350 with vortec heads. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!
  6. For some odd reason my timing light is only seeing the single line for tdc.
  7. Here is the balencer http://m.summitracing.com/parts/pfs-80000
  8. I am aa little confused as far as the pointer. My timing cover has an tab that goes from -12 to 12 I'm not sure how are pointer would work. I am also using the professional products 8000 balancer.
  9. I just have the line on the balencer. Wouldn't I need the timing tape to extend off of I the timing tab?
  10. Thanks for the imput. This was the first I heard of timing tape.
  11. I am setting the timing on my 350 that I just swapped some 97 vortec heads on. I am trying to set my initial timing at 20° to equal a total timing of around 30°. My timing tab is at 2 o clock on the timing cover. My timing tab does not read past 12°. Can anyone help me set an accurate timing past 12°? Do they make a timing tab extension? Any help is appreciated
  12. Is the permatex a gasket sealer or just an adhesive to keep the gasket in place? Were the gains worth it on your vortec builds?
  13. The stock vortec heads won't allow more that .475 lift cam. The summit 1103 is .444 lift. The compression I am estimating to be around 9:5:1 due to the 64cc chambers on the vortecs.
  14. I have a pair of good vortec heads from a 1998 chevy 2500 van they are the 062 heads. I am considering using them on my stock 350.I plan on freshening them up with new seals and springs and installing them with the summit 1103 cam. Does anybody have an idea what kind of power I can expect? And estimated 1/4 mile times? I am hoping for somewhere in the 14s. Also will a high rise intake work with my stock hood? Any help is appreciated.
  15. Yeah I love the car, I paid $1000 for the car when I got it pretty much needed everything but i saw the potiental it had and ran with it, it used to be my daily driver to highschool last year, I will have to say I did have the meanest looking car in the parking lot, its got a real lopey cam in it and twister exhaust with cut outs, it made all the ricer kids look bad thats for sure
