  1. Clip of my project Monster Monte idling in the yard.
  2. Another clip of my project Monster Monte Carlo idling in the front yard. Part III coming soon after more modifications!
  3. The intake that I am running on my Munster 72 is a Dart airgap. It is identical to Edelbrock's RPM Airgap, but it is made by Dart. My Holley 650 double pumper gives a lot of power on demand. I had to do a lot of adjusting to make it streetable, but once I got the bugs worked out, it proved to be one of the best carbs I have ever had, and I have had Holley 750 duel line, Holley 600 vacuum secondary, Quadrajet, and Edelbrock 750 performer but I really love my 650 double pumper. I have not had my car on a dyno yet but my guess would be 400 hp or more. I am curious to see what my 1/4 mile ET is. I have not ran it at the track yet but I am planning on testing it out at the local track later on this summer. I am looking for a stronger rear end with a lower gear before I run it. My rear end is the factory 10 bolt single traction modified with Richmond 3.55 gears. I will probably replace it with a 3.73 or 4.11 geared 12 bolt posi unit.I would also like to beef up the bottom half of my engine a bit more before I hit the track. My 350 is powerful with good torque, but I thought about stroking it. I think stroking my 350 could be an option. What do you guys think about the stroker engines???
  4. My monster small block has, just to name a few, a Pete Jackson Noisy gear drive, 480 lift Comp cam, ported & polished 041 heads,1.5 roller rockers, K. Motion valve springs, Dart intake, Holley 650 double pumper, MSD 6AL, Blackjack headers, 2.5 exhaust w/X-pipe and single chamber race Flowmasters, and custom side exhaust exits, Super T10 four speed w/Centerforce dual friction clutch kit,Hurst comp shifter w/pistal grip, 3.55 Richmond geared rear end, Tangerine pearl coat paint w/gold flake and four coats of clear, and an aero hood scoop. I am not sure what my next modification will be. I thought about building a big block but gas prices are too high. I might just continue to modify my small block. Thanks for the responses guys. What do you think would be the best next move, a big block, a turbo, or a procharger???
  5. Here is a clip of my '72 with new hood and exhaust modifications. Check out my pistal grip four speed also.
  6. What is the most wicked sounding muffler have you guys ever heard? I have always been a Flowmaster guy. I had 40 series two chamber Flowmasters on my Monte, and now I am running single chamber flowmaster race mufflers with an X pipe with the exhaust exiting in front of the rear wheels and it sounds like a thunder storm. Just when I thought Flowmaster was the most aggressive sounding muffler, I heard Spintech. Spintech sounds more aggressive than Flomaster believe it or not. Go on you tube and listen to muscle cars with Flowmasters, and then listen to muscle cars with Spintech and tell me what you think.
  7. My carb used to sit up inside of my cowl hood scoop when I ran a Holly Strip Dominator intake with a carb spacer. I now have a Dart intake and its not as tall as the Stip Dominator but the carb (Holley 650 double pumper) still gets to benefit from the cold air due to a Hilborn air breather that sits into the cowl scoop.I just think that it will look awsome when you look through the front of the Aero scoop and see the Hilborn breather.
  8. Thanks Meanmonte, 12 bolt 4.11s sounds like the perfect move to complete my project.Let me talk it over with my wife and then i will PM you.I would also like to complement you on having the Coolest Monte that I have ever seen. Do you have any updated pics of your Monte?, also what color is that?
  9. What other kind of hoods and scoops have you guys seen on Monte Carlos? Have any of you guys ever seen a Monte with a ram air hood? That would be kinda kool...
  10. 3.90s or 3.73s would probably be best for daily cruising I guess. My Monte is a little sluggish on take off.

    exhaust system

I am running an X pipe on my system along with single chamber race Flowmasters and it sounds wicked. I started out with an H pipe. It toned my exhaust down which I didnt like but it gave me loads of bottom end torque. I then switched to an X pipe. It sounds better than the H pipe and gave me bottom end, and top end torque.
  12. I purchased Dynomax's Bullets, had them put on, and had them taken off the next day because they sounded like crap. Now I am running single chamber Flowmaster race mufflers with an X pipe. The single chambers sound very aggressive but dont sound as good as 40 series Flowmasters. I called Flowmaster and asked them if their Super 44s was their best sounding muffler, and the tech person that I spoke with said that the best sounding muffler that they make is the original 40 series.I have heard some wicked sounding Borlas on a Camaro.I have not heard the Spintech yet.
  13. I have a 6 inch cowl hood on my 72 MC. I am thinking of going with something with a little more radical look. I like the aero pro stock style hood scoops. Most of them are pretty big though. The smallest one that i have seen is 7 inches high, which isn't too bad considering my cowl is 6 inches. What do you guys think? Is there a limit to how high a hood scoop can be on a street car?
  14. Yesterday 02/20/08 me and my mechanic finally installed my new clutch in my 72. It has a small block making around 350 - 400 HP, and a super T10 four speed. I thought it had an M22 Muncie but it was not, it is a super T10. We installed a Centerforce Dual Friction clutch kit. I love it.It hooks up good on demand and is real smooth and has a real soft pedal. Actually I prefer a hard pedal, but I just have to get used to it. My next modification is to get rid of the 10 bolt rear end and install a 12 bolt posi unit with maybe 4.11 gears. What do you guys think?
  15. Me and my mechanic just dropped my transmission to replace the clutch. I was so sure that my trnsmission was an M22 Muncie four speed, but after removing the transmission we discovered that it is a Super T10 instead of a Muncie. I had to send the clutch and presure plate back because the Muncie uses an 11 inch 10 spline, and the Super T10 uses a 10.5 inch 26 spline. The clutch that i am sending back is a Zoon HP race, and the one that i am getting is a Centerforce duel friction. What do you guys thiink? Is a Super T10 transmission as strong as a Muncie? Is a Centerforce clutch better than a Zoom, Ram,McLeod or Hays?
  16. Have any of you guys ran your first generation Monte Carlos at Pinks All Out yet? If I complete my Monte, and Pinks All Out comes back to North Caralina I may give it a try, but what would be really kool, is if they added a pinks car show to the all out weekend so that we could show our first generation Monte carlos. What do you guys think.
  17. What did you guys think about the beefed up Monte Carlo in Fast & Furious Three Tokyo Drift. If there is a part four, I would like to see that kid build another Monte carlo, maybe something freaky like a 632 cubic inch big block with a 6 speed trans and a blinding paint job. If you guys could build your dream monte Carlo for a motion picture, what would it look like?
  18. I'm overdue for a clutch kit for my 72. My small block makes somewhere between 350 and 400 horses. I am considering a Zoom clutch kit. They offer original, street-strip, and race. I am considering the race clutch. If any of You guys are running a 350+ horse Monte with a stick, what clutch are you guys running? Would a Zoom race clutch be too much for the street???
  19. Whats up everyone? I think we all made a cool choice in owning, restoring, collecting, and modifying first generation monte carlos. My project is the tangerine colored 72 featured for MC of the month for Nov. I get a rush from all of the attention when I'm out cruising. The sound gets a lot of attention also. My attention getters consist of headers, 2.5 exhaust with x pipe, and single chamber flowmaster race mufflers.Pete Jackson noisy gear drive, and a Comp Cams magnum 480 lift cam. I'm thiking of trying Comp Cams new Thumper series cams. Have any of you guys tried this new cam yet, and how does it sound???
  20. hello everyone! I'm new to the wed site but i have been a member for a while. My Monte is the tangerine colored Monte featured for monte of the month for Nov. It is a 72 with a small block, Rock Crusher four speed, and 3:55 rear end. My question is, when I take off it is very hesitant. Could my problem be that my rear end gear is too high? I was thinking about getting a 4:11, but I heard that a 3:90, or 3:73 would be better for the street.
  21. I have a 72 MC with a small block putting out around 350 - 400 HP. About twelve years ago we installed an M22 Rock Crusher that came out of an SS Chevelle. Over the years the clutch has become worn out. What would be a good high performance clutch kit to use?
