  1. I still don't know if I will be able to make it to the Western Meet. I am traveling from Eugene, OR to Santa Carla, CA every week for work. My new employor has given me 5 months to relocate to Santa Carla. My daughter graduates from High School in June, so my home will be in Oregon until at least early July. I don't know about driving my Monte all the way to Santa Clara from here, I don't know if it can make the trip. I also have a 15 x 20 shop here and don't know what I will have in CA. Lots of stuff to get rid of, mostly junk if I don't have a shop at the new house. I had started collecting things to set up a shop with low end stuff until I could afford better. Harbor Freight blast hood, paint sprayer, used compressors (1 1/2 hp and 60 gallon tank with Harbor Freight 5 HP compressor) dishwasher for parts cleaning (Works great on hubcaps) oven for powder coating. Right now I am considering putting the car in storage here, going to the meet and driving it to Santa Clara afterward. As long as I remember the cell phone I can call for help if I break down along the way.
  2. I have a vacuum pump and never had good luck using it to bleed brakes. The best method I have found for bleeding brakes by myself is by using speed bleeders. I have the Russell brand and would highly recommend them. Below is a link to the Russell speed bleeders on the Jegs website if you are interested. If I remember correctly you need 2 different sizes because the threads on the front are different then the threads on the back. http://www.jegs.com/i/Russell/799/639590/10002/-1
  3. Since I live in Oregon this is probably my best chance to make it to a meet, but at this time I can not make a commitment. My job situation is uncertain and I don't know if it will be any better in August. Please don't think a lack of response is due to a lack of interest. I have to make certain my priorities are in order before I commit.

    Western Meet 2010

Another good show and cruise in Oregon. I have attended the last 2 years and this is huge for this area. Junction City is about 10 miles off I-5 in the middle of Oregon. It is about an hour drive to highway 101 and the coast. Show and cruise are on Saturday. I don't know of any official events on Sunday. http://www. Junction City, Oregon Function 4 Junction May 29, 2010 http://www.function4junction.com/ Cruise is for 1974 and older vehicles show is open to all vehicles Show n shine
  5. I'm struggling with the same question. It would be great if there was a way to test drive some wheels and tires for a few days without spending all that cash on wheels that look good but make the ride too harsh. I went to a few junkyards to see if they had any ideas on 17" or 18" cheap ugly rims. No luck. Probably stick with the 15" stock wheels with wire hubcabs. Problem is that I have owned the car for 10 years and have never replaced the tires. It stays in the garage except for the few hundred miles a year I drive it so it is not exposed to the weather, but I don't know what the previous owner did.
  6. Just thinking...I currently have a rebuilt TH350 in the Monte with the Horseshoe shifter. I have always liked manual transmissions better than automatic but I can't see removing the horseshoe shifter, its just too cool. Has anyone ever seen a manual transmission setup using the existing horseshoe shifter as a slap stick/paddle shifter?

    Side Markers

I have been going through the 72 Monte a little at a time. For some reason a I always run out of time and money. Last year I took the vinyl off and think it looks much better without it. I don't have a compressor and don't weld, so i just use a rattle can and it looks ok. I am not using any bondo or filler because I want to be able to show a body and paint shop what they are working with. I also bought a new trunk lid and have sent the rear bumper out to be straightened and rechromed. This weekend I decided to take the bottom trim off and rattle can up to the back of the doors this year. The passenger side rear quarter is rusted all the way through in several places where the molding used to be. I am a big fan of Chip Foose and like the way the Monte looks without the side molding. I know chip took out the side markers, but I like the way they look. My question is what have others done for trim around the side markers? I have a few ideas, but if there is something that is easilier and cheaper I'm all for it. I guess I will have pile of trim for sale shortly. Some looks pretty good, some not so good. I might need to cut the trim around the markers so those pieces may not be useable when I'm finished. Any ideas would be helpful.
