  1. Awesome Thank you for the advice. I normally ask my Dad about these type of things but he's now in the Nursing home. Thank you again! Katrina
  2. This may sound like a goofy question.....but this is concerning my baby and I don't want to hurt it. Last year I filled up my tank thinking that I would run through the gas through out the winter starting every couple weeks. Well - I was a little over zealous and now I have a half a tank of gas thats a year + old sitting in my Monte's tank. Is it safe to start it - it hasn't been started yet this year. (this is the first time that this has happened) Can anyone give me there thoughts on if its okay to run it or should I siphon it out? How do you know if the gas is bad? Thank you for your help.
  3. Thank you everyone. Daryl - I live in Glenwood. Where are you from? Leo - I am not sure I had a mechanic put the HEI in. The car run good up until November of last year when I parked it for winter. LOL - I had to read your post again Bruce......I was thinking you wanted me to do a burn out - hehe. I was gonna say nooooo I have never tried that. But I will see what it does when I do that. Do you think it could be bad gas? I was naughty and had gas in it all winter. I like to go out and start it every weekend just to make sure everything is still good. I do admit - when I parked it last winter I wasn't faithful with starting it every weekend. When I took it out for the first drive it still had a half a tank of gas and then I topped it off before I went out for a cruise. Let me know what you think. Thank you Katrina
  4. Ohhhhhhh - the carb is very very picky!!!!!! I do not mess with it unless I have to. My Dad fixed it the last time and I won't mess with it. It still has the original carb on it. Thanks again! Katrina
  5. Thank you everyone for your help. I will see if I can locate those suggestions. I put the HEI on because the distributor cap kept getting condensation built up and well I don't have to tell all of you - it wouldn't start. I replaced the distributor cap many many times and finally went to the HEI so it would start each time. Being a single woman - its a little hard to figure out whats up with it when it won't start when I am long way from home. I don't mind the in town but makes me nervous out on the road. No there isn't any noise with it when it shutters. Just shakes a little when you are accelerating - steady its perfect he just floats down the road. I will see if I can locate those suggestions. I will keep everyone posted! Thanks again - I appreciate everyone's help!!!! Katrina

WOW - I hope no one was hurt!!!!! That is super scary.....and sad for the Camero!
  7. Thank you everyone for your advise. I have checked the tranny fluid - looks good. Distributor........I got rid of that and the points - it has an HEI now. Does that still have a vacuum one it?? I don't think it does but could be wrong. U-joints were replaced about 2 or 3 years ago. I did put a new vacuum hose on it from the vapor canister to the carb. I live in Southwest Iowa.....I can't find anyone to work on it because it doesn't have a computer. Can you believe that??? Maybe I need to try a race shop to see if they would work on it. Thanks everyone for your help! Katrina
  8. Hello everyone. I was hoping to get some opinions...I know some about cars but not a lot. Last weekend I took my Monte out for a drive and it drove funny. Starting from a stop position pressing the foot feed - my car shuttered. But - when I got to a steady speed not pushing on the foot feed to get more speed the car drove fine. I have a feeling its the tranny.....am I right or would this be a rear end problem? Don't think it could be an engine problem it runs good except the driving part. I had the u-joints fixed on the drive shaft so I really don't think its that. I am hoping that I am wrong and its not nothing....but by the shutter I have a feeling its a big something. If any of you are from Iowa if you could recommend a good reputable mechanic I would so appreciate it - little picky about who touches my car. I used to have my Dad help me but he's not able to anymore. If you can give me any suggestions I would appreciate it. Thank you everyone. Katrina
  9. Mine was all original too. To be honest not sure what size - I just took the hose up to the auto store and the guy cut me a new one. It is the hose that was going from the charcoal canister to the carb located on the bottom passenger side. Thanks again!!!!!! Katrina
  10. I had to let everyone know what I found out with the fuel smell. The vacuum hose from the carb to the charcoal canister was actually cracked causing the smell. Ohhhhhhhhh would have thought? LOL - Thanks everyone for your help!!!!!!!!!! Have a great night. Katrina
  11. Thank you very much!!!!!! I appreciate everyone's help! I can't thank you enough! Katrina
  12. I really appreciate everyones help.......sorry I haven't wrote back in a while - busy with work. I have walked around - laid on the ground looked to see if I could see anything dripping - nothing. (Had one car that was gassy and found the gas lead right behind the drivers tire- thought maybe it was like the Cutlass) Car doesn't smell gassy either when its running. So I know its not getting over loaded. Outside no smell when its shut off sitting in the driveway - when I put it in the garage and close the door - after about 2 to 3 hours my house (the garage is off the kitchen) smells like the inside of a gas can. I have changed the fuel pump - carb rebuilt, new gas cap one that vents instead of the factory, new lines from the fuel pump to the carb. My son noticed that the bottom of the canister was open and was empty. He closed the canister without anything in it. After it has sat for a couple hours - you can smell the gas in the engine compartment - not the back end like one would think with the vented gas cap. I know some about cars but not enough to mess with the gas lines. and now can't really ask my Dad questions as he is now in the nursing home. What does everyone think??
  13. Thank you everyone for the help! I really appreciate it. The car is pretty much all stock and original. Yep, it still has the original 4 barrel quadrajet on it (rebuilt). The only thing that I have upgraded to is getting rid of the points So much nicer!!! I will go up to the parts store and see if they have the filter (thank you). I tried Napa and Original Parts Group both didn't have it. If that doesn't fix the smell I will have to get it in and have someone take a look at the lines. (I can do some things but anything with the fuel makes me a little nervous and do not want anything to happen to Monte) Thanks soooooo very much!!!! Have a great night! Katrina
  14. Does anyone know where I can find a filter for the charcoal canister that is for the fuel system?? I have a fuel smell problem (literally my house smells like the inside of a gas can after parking my car in the attached garage - never had this problem until about a couple years ago) that I am wondering if this would help (since the canister is empty). My Dad told me that their should be a filter in it. Does anyone have any ideas?? I have had the carb rebuilt several times and gas lines re-ran - still smells. - - - - otherwise he may get a new nickname.....stinky! If you can let me know I would appreciate it. Thanks everyone.
