  1. Thanks Jacob. I work full time and with the shortened days and no lights in my garage yet, I usually work on saturdays. We shall find out this saturday. Thanks for all the ideas.
  2. I was wondering what are some ways to take off weight of the monte without getting changing the stock look much. I want to keep interior as it is not a all out race car. I suppose a fiberglass hood at some point? I think 200# loss would get it equal to a chevelle? The AC compressor is like a boat anchor. Not sure what to do about that.
  3. Its a 770 holley street avenger carb. There is not other holes for brake vac. There is a 3/8" phenolic spacer in town. I think the 5/8" extra should relieve pressure against the air cleaner.
  4. My newly installed 468 with Edelbrock RPM intake, 1" carb spacer and 3" air filter set up is kinda pressed hard under the hood. I suppose it has an adverse affect on the filter. I live at 6k altitude. My builder wanted me to use the 1"spacer but I think he is ok without it. What would you do? I think i am going to order a 1/2" spacer and keep the filter. THe filter does have a 1 5/8 recessed bottom to it. The other thing is maybe a 2 1/2" filter. Your input is appreciated. Not ready for a cowl hood.
  5. thanks I will try the hose to ear test. I have not re torqued the bolts yet. I used sanderson headers which only use a silicone RTV type sealeant with no gasket. Many have good luck with the seal on them. Hopefully that will fix it. You would think it would make it when not in gear but until it goes down the road under load, it is quiet.
  6. So I took my 467 bb MC out for its first run since engine install. There is a ticking sound that increases with MPH. The funny thing is when your are not loading engine in gear and just rev in drive way, it does not make noise. It is only when under load and kinda changes sound slighly with rpm. Just not sure it is a leak but think so. I am using a flex repair type connection from header to exhaust for now. Are there any other possibilities? thanks
  7. How much stiffer is the ride with the camino springs?
  8. So I believe the monte is approx 200lbs heavier than a chevelle? It also has a longer wheel base. If you have the same engine in both cars, how much slower would a monte be than a chevelle at the track? Does the longer wheelbase make any difference? There are some chevelles with the same engine I have. I probably will not have the posi unit installed before the track closes. Just trying to get a ballpark of where I will be.
  9. I have a summit brand mini starter to install. It says not to run power during install set up, yet it wants me to shim the gear. How can I get the bendix/gear to come out without power? Maybe I am misunderstanding and need to run power. Just need to know if there is a way "manually" to get the gear to come out? Thanks
  10. Thanks, definitely seem to have some options. I am at 6k altitude in NM. I need as much air available as I can get. I hope those recessed bases clear my throttle cable etc. I just want to do this once hopefully. I am kinda leaning towards the drop based kN filter unit. Maybe remove insulation and get the filter top version. The corvette unit with a recessed base and dual snorkel is great but alot more money it would seem.
  11. It seems with the inch carb spacer and Edelbrock RPM perfomer intake with a Holly avenger I am tight with a stock hood. Not sure exactly yet but does anyone have suggestions for a good recessed air cleaner unit
  12. My tranny cable from my old th 350 unit does not match up.Where it attaches to the TH400 linkage connection, the cable is to long. Do I have to order a "th400 cable" and take out the console and rerun everything or can I somehow make this work? Thanks Scott
  13. After much reading about the rubber/poly bushing arguments. I am going with ES poly in lowers and moog rubber bushing upper. I think I will have a nice trade off. I am just not wanting to bind the uppers with poly on turns. For better or worse that is what I am doing.
  14. I passed most of my math classes with a C and a slight headache(: So, you have two engines making 500hp. One is a small block, the other a bb. The SB peaks on torque at 480 torque and the BB peaks in torque (again according to dyno) at 580 torque. So the question is, if you take the same monte carlo and drop each "500hp" engine in the same car and take it to the track. Approx what difference should you see in ETs. thanks
  15. I am probably going to return them. I bowhunt and use rubber dampeners on my limbs to help absorb vibration after energy release. It works great. I should have considered this but so many recommend poly.
  16. I quess I got caught up in the polyurathane hype before research. Because I am installing a 500hp bb, I thought using poly bushings on the rear control arms and thrust arm? would take the added abuse. However I am hearing stories of stiffer rides, vibration and sometimes squeaking. I do not want that. I like a nice ride. Would you use rubber or poly? I do have posi traction also. Thank you
  17. So I purchased energy susp polyeurethane motor mounts/trans mount. After doing some research I am contemplating returning them. I understand they send vibration into the car. I am not into that. This is a street car mostly. The reason I got them is because of my new 467 500hp unit. I can get a full return on purchase. What would you do?
  18. Wow, this stuff IS hard to find and there proud of it. I may have to go to junk yards.
  19. I only want to order what i absolutely need to. So I think I now need Alt/PS brackets for BB. I need the 3 groove crank and Water pump pulley. I also have AC comp unit that I would like to use from SB. Any feedback before purchase is appreciated.
  20. Can I transfer my pulleys off the 350sb to the 454 BB? Would there be any issues with belt fits? Thanks
  21. The ATI TC I was recommended only says approx 800-1000rpms above stock stall. I am assuming I will be around 2400-2700 stall speed. I think I read somewhere that stock is around 16-1800 stall speed? Can anyone confirm this? Thank you. Here is the product ID The Streetmaster® Torque Conveter is designed to make the most of your everyday driving needs. It’s not just for any car. It’s for the world of burnouts and boulevards, of stall speeds and stereos - that custom world where performance meets style. The Streetmaster Torque Converter is commonly used to enhance bottom end torque characteristics without sacrificing cruise efficiency. This unit generally provides an 800 to 1000 RPM increase in stall speed when used with stock-type rear end ratios and slightly modified manufactured engines. Specs • Minimizes low RPM slippage • Reduces heat build-up • Fully furnace brazed fins • ATI converter pilot and 4140 steel pump hub • 4140 turbine hub • Torrington Roller Thrust Bearings • Springs and rollers in the stator • Adapter ring for secure mounting to the flywheel with threaded holes. .It is a 10"streetmaster

    2" Headers

My builder recommended 1 7/8" headers. I ordered Sanderson 1 7/8" headers. There suppose to be a good fit on montes. They recommend also using silicon for gaskets. I am opting out of that for copper. It is getting ceramic coated so should come in next week. I am hoping for a nice fit.
  23. I am not as knowledgable as alot of these guys but I think you might be a little over carbed. Consider the 770 street avenger.
  24. I love this place. Thanks for the great feedback. I will check the difference in prices and then make a decision. Sounds like it is not neccesary for high flow but not a bad idea either. If there is a big enough difference in price, I may opt for stock steel.
  25. What to you Big Block guys use for water pumps? My new 467 rat needs one. I would like to do it right the first time. I am looking at a Steward HP unit.Possibly a tuff stuff supercool unit. Any advice or comment is welcome
