  1. I just put the MT 295 55 tires on a 15x8 rim with 5 inch backspace on my car. i trimmed the lips prior to me getting them and it turns out i only needed to trim my drivers side. They fit just fine though.

    Gear swap?

Got quoted 150 bucks to get it done if i take the rear end out of the car and bring it to them so i might do that. I really dont feel comfortable bringing the whole car to someone and have to leave it there i dont trust alot of shops ive heard of peolple taking cars out and joy riding in them!

    Gear swap?

Ordered my gears they should be in this week. decided to go with 3.73s i have never changed gears before i understand how to do it for the most part should i attempt it or take it in? I would like to learn how but am worried about messing up.
  4. I did a temp fix for rhe summer, going to pull the motor this winter anyways, im a hvac service tech and sometimes we use a two part epoxy to fix coils, its rated to 3000psi plus and it can handle temps around 500f. You can use a torch or heat gun to cure it i used my heat gun it took a little longer but worked out fine. ive used it on 410a systems and they have been running fine for years and no leaks. im buying a new pan and plan on doing more upgrades to the motor this winter.
  5. I thought about that and it seems like it happened after i took the car in to have the front end aligned it was fine before i took the grease zirk out and it dosen't touch the pan anymore.
  6. Im going to do my body bushings as well did you have to jack the body up after you loosened the bushings ive never done body bushings before should have replaced them when i had the car torn apart. any tips or what to expect hopefully they come out without breaking bolts!
  7. Your probably right think i am going to pull it i would hate starting a fire and really damage the car after i just finished it. i cant beleive the center link did that to i would never guess to check it. It was just the dam grease zirk that poked the dent and crack. I just dread pulling the motor cause the headers are a pain! But on the bright side it gives me a reason to get back out in the garage!
  8. Since it is such a small crack i think im going to try to tack weld it i have a hobart 140 mig and its pretty much made for thin metal im a little nervous i got the car on jack stands to let the oil drain towards the back of the pan and am going to let it drain till saturday or friday night hopefully it goes well if it dosen't i will pull the motor out saturday night. I almost need to take it out anyways and find some different valve covers cause i have to pull the motor just to changs the gaskets! power brakes and ac box is in the way. thanks for the replies!
  9. So Ive been driving the monte around and noticed a puddle of oil under the car and upon investigating I found that the grease fitting on the centerlink had pushed into the oil pan when turnimg and left a dent and a tiny crack where it had pushed in. I got a moroso stroker pan so it wasn't cheap i would really hate buying a new and tearing the motor back out when ive only driven 400 miles or so. debating on draining the oil and attempt to braze or mig it. ive read on other threads some have good luck with cleaning it and jb welding it but i really dont want to worry about it leaking everytime i drive it!
  10. Got the mickies on and took her out for a ride and its night and day with these tires i still have some wheel spin but am able to come out of it and feels alot safer not like the perellis which were like driving on ice. plus the car rides alot better with more side wall to help cushion the bumps. Going to take it to the dyno next week thave it tuned in then hopefully make to the track thanks for all the replies!
  11. Thats good to know! i cant remember what it was before i had the rear end out when i painted the under carriage so im not sure if i got it back in there exactly the way it was with changing out the upper and lower control arms it kind of drives me nuts though i can tell by looking at each side of the car how the tire is sitting in the wheel well with my other rims and tires you really cant tell
  12. Just got them mounted and they look good no clearance issues i can tell right now. what kind of tire pressure should i run with these the shop only put 10psi in them now. i noticed my rear end is not perfectly centered thers a 1/4 difference from one side to the other from the sidewall to whell well lip going to look at the body bushings tonight to see if they worn a bit.
  13. Thanks, i still have my other set of rims and tires also they have pirelli pzeros on them which im going to use for most of my driving and i can already tell they can hold the corners pretty well just no throttle that's probably because of my gears i have now ive decided to get some 3.73s but im going to try to see what its going to do with the 4.56s for fun soon as the mts are on ive never gotten the motor over 3100rpm yet!
  14. Got my mt drag radials 295 55 15 today going to have em mounted tommorow hopefully they help a little i appreciate everyones retplies the only thing that sucks living where i do is the nearest track is 2-3 hours away and i dont have a trailer yet but been shopping for one once it stays nice out im going to take it to the dyno and have it tuned i will post the numbers when i get it done thanks again to everyone ive received alot of helpfull advice on this website wish i would have joined sooner ive owned mine for 15 years always been a monte nut!
  15. I ordered some drag radials last night 295 55 15. going to put them on some rally rims hopefully that will help alot. I have cragar 20x8.5 with 275 45s on it and i think the rubber dosen't have a bite to it like a taller side wall does. My suspension is preety tight so weight transfer probably is an issue! going to how it does after the new tires then might change the shocks out thanks for the posts you guys got really good looking MCs im trying to figure out how to post a pic of mine no luck so far!
  16. Haven't got to take it to the track with this motor yet, just got the car finished over this last summer and winter only driven it about 100 easy miles to break it in. Its got a tci competition 400 with a 3600 stall, and a hotchkis sport suspension package on it with edelbrock ias shocks. i was going for a real fast street/strip car then in the middle of the build went for a pro touring car. had a built 355 in it with a basically stock 350 tranny with a shift kit and got into the low 12's thats why i have the 4.56s in it. i cant get the motor up to 3000rpm 1/4 throttle without the thing sliding all over the place in any gear!
  17. Just looking for some imput. I have a 71 and have a built 496 in it going to run 295 55 15 mt radials out back my current setup is obviously not going to work there 275 45 20 on it right now. i have 4.56 gears in the back is that to steep for a big block setup? im thinking of 3.93 or somewhere around there. any thoughts would be appreciated Thanks going to be a nice weekened to work on it been real cold here!!
