  1. Hey Steve,

Sorry to hear about your Valentine date this year. Before I had my prostate biopsy, I was really nervous about the procedure. It turned out it was easier then a colonoscapy. They put you to sleep and you wake up feeling fine. I had no side effects from the procedure. They took 13 samples and I didn't feel a thing. Just the way I like it. Hope my experience eased your mind. Good luck with the results.

  2. Most people will say get your psa checked once a year but after a certain age I would strongly suggest that you get it checked every 6 months. My psa went from normal to 65 in one 6 month period. That is very high. As with any cancer, the sooner it is detected, the better.

  3. If the front end was never rebuilt, I would start there. There are complete rebuild kits out there. I like the kits from PST. Don't forget the center link, idler arm and tie rod ends. They can all contribute to steering play.

If that still doesn't resolve the issue, I would recommend replacing the steering box. I like the kit from Borgeson.

    Good luck!

  4. The best way to figure that out is to bolt the new bucket seat brackets to the bucket seats, then put the bucket seats into the car and install the outer bolts to the factory locations. Then be sure that both seat tracks are either both front, or both back on each seat. Then tach the new brackets into position. Then remove just the bucket seats and add some more tach welds to better secure the new brackets.

    Good luck!

  5. Anyone know what's going on with Maple Grove Super Chevy this weekend? I know there are usually many Monte members that go.

We drove out this morning and the place was empty?? I thought maybe I had my weekends mixed up, but I didn't. The lady that takes the money said not many people came last year so they "moved the show to the pit area". I wasn't happy to hear that so we turned around and left. Didn't see many cars anywhere.  What gives?

  6. Is anyone here using a cycling switch for their AC compressor?

I recently installed a new evaporator, compressor, condenser and hoses from Old Air products and they recommend using a cycling switch so the compressor goes ON and OFF based on temperature. I didn't wire it in because I never had an AC system on any old car that was that cold. But this system will literally freeze you out now. I can only keep the blower on low because it is so cold. Just curious if anyone else has come across a similar situation.

Also, what is the difference between "Max AC" and just "AC" on the climate control panel? I'm guessing regular AC mixes in some outside air with the AC system. I'm just not sure.

Rob, did you wire in the switch on your car? If so, how often does it go on and off?

    Thanks!

P.S. Old Air Products in Texas is the way to go with AC systems. Brrr.

  7. I just sold my triple black 70 Monte a few years ago when I retired. Too many cars in the stable and had to sell some before I retired. Retirement is great. Took me a while to get used to it. It's like a whole new world now. You should try it.

  8. I thought we met somewhere. Glad to see you are still racing.

Unfortunately, I totalled Curt's 72 Custom a few years back when I hit a patch of black ice on a cold, sunny Sunday morning going to the Macungie diner for breakfast. The car slid sideways into a telephone pole. I loved that car and miss Curt. So maybe there is another maroon Monte running around or a ghost from the past. Lol. Do you still race at Maple Grove?

  9. Hey Jason,

Didn't you have a Monte Carlo at Maple Grove a few years back? Maroon maybe? The car would lift up the front tires at launch and run somewhere in the 10s. I think I may have met you there. I am from Center Valley.

  10. When I did my testing on the sending unit, I moved the float from dead botton to the top end stop and made sure the dash gauge moved in the same manner.

Lowest position, gauge showed "E". Middle position, gauge showed "half tank". Highest position, gauge showed "F".

You can also use a voltmeter to measure the resistance readings at different position. I can't remember now what the readings should be. Got that by watching a Utube video.

    Hope that helps!

  11. You may want to check to see of the hydraulic fluid is full.  And always use jack stands just in case. I don't trust old jacks or new jacks. I bought a new jack from Harbor Freight a few years ago and it will drop slowly with weight on it.

  12. Hey Jeff,

The first thing I would do is get a laser temp reader and find out if the engine is actually running hot in the first place. Sometimes the temp sending unit and temp guage show a higher reading then it actually is.

You don't want to be chasing a problem that doesn't actually exit. I had this issue with my 70 SS El Camino with a newly rebuilt 396/402 engine.

  13. I sold several original bench seats over the past 5 years or so. Prices ranged from $100 to $250. Every seat went to someone fixing up an old truck project. My brother-in-law used a 72 Monte seat in his 56 Ford F100 project. It fit perfectly, just had to make some mounting brackets.

    Good luck!
