  1. I run BFG 255/60/15s on my 70 Monte (all original drivetrain) and my speedo reads about 7% too high. I think it's because my tires are a slightly smaller diameter than stock. I tested it during my drive to the western Meet using the mile markers. I tested it several time during the drive and got the same 7% result each time. You are running 245/60/15s which would throw it off even further (11% in your case).
  2. Some photos from the 2010 Northwest Motorfest I found: http://aaronflake.zenfolio.com/p22781751/hb44959#hd11a88e This looks to be during the Capital City Cruise on Saturday evening.
  3. Is this you fixing the wiring during the drive down to the meet? Looks like Owen was on spare tire duty.
  4. Here is the club participation award the FGMCC received at the Western Meet All the members who attended the event signed the back Link to album: http://s924.photobucket.com/albums/ad81/Aaron70Monte/Car%20Shows/2010%20FGMCC%20Western%20Meet/
  5. From the album: 72 Wheel Bearing Replacement

Installed the rotor back on the car and put the washer on. After that, install the nut and tighten (see Dave's comments below). Also install a new cotter pin. Job is done! Did you have as much fun as I did? [edited by Aaron July 31/11]
  6. From the album: 72 Wheel Bearing Replacement

Packed and installed the outer bearing.
  7. From the album: 72 Wheel Bearing Replacement

I hammered in the new inner seal.
  8. From the album: 72 Wheel Bearing Replacement

I packed the bearings and put a coat of grease inside the rotor. Then inserted the inner bearing.
  9. From the album: 72 Wheel Bearing Replacement

Also cleaned up inside the rotor and got rid of all the old grease. Sprayed it with Brake Clean and used a tooth brush to scrub ut. I rinsed it with water and dried it with the air compressor.
  10. From the album: 72 Wheel Bearing Replacement

Cleaned up the spindle using Brake Clean. Thinner and other products will work too, I just happened to have Brake Clean on my bench. I scrubbed it with a tooth brush, wiped it down and blew it off with the air compressor. Some day, I'll get around to cleaning everything but I just didn't have the time during this job.

Socket in place to tap in the outer race.
  12. From the album: 72 Wheel Bearing Replacement

To tap the outer race further into the rotor, I used a large socket with a short extension. I inserted the extension there so the socket will not bounce away once I've hit it with the hammer. I only have fingers on one hand so I cannot hold the socket in place while hammering.
  13. From the album: 72 Wheel Bearing Replacement

I tapped in the outer race until it was flush with the rotor. using the wood and hammering on the wood can prevent damage to the race. I used a socket to drive it in the rest of the way.
  14. From the album: 72 Wheel Bearing Replacement

I found a PVC pipe coupling that was nearly the perfect diameter to pound in the inner race. The "special tool" cost me 65 cents. I used a piece of 2x4 in top of the pipe and hammered on the wood. It was important to drive it in straight.
  15. From the album: 72 Wheel Bearing Replacement

Installing the inner race. I tapped it in using a piece of wood until it was flush with the rotor. I then used the old race to tap in the new one a little further. I made sure not to go too far or the old race will be stuck in the rotor with the new one. I have a tool to pound in the race the rest of the way but it only worked if the race was alrady in a little.
  16. From the album: 72 Wheel Bearing Replacement

I put the bearings in the tub of grease for safe keeping until I'm ready to pack them.
  17. From the album: 72 Wheel Bearing Replacement

Now time to get the inner race out. Can't use a socket like I used for the outer race. Also didn't have the supplies to make the tool that is described in the shop manual. I used a flat head screwdriver and a hammer and tapped the race to get it out. I moved around in circles so the rce came out straight to prevent damaging the rotor.
  18. From the album: 72 Wheel Bearing Replacement

The socket is slightly smaller than the hole in the rotor but contacts the exposed edge of the outer race. I hammered on that to get the race out.
  19. From the album: 72 Wheel Bearing Replacement

To remove the outer race, I used a large 1 1/8 socket and an extension. A 30MM socket works also.
  20. From the album: 72 Wheel Bearing Replacement

Outer bearing is removed and gave the rotor a quick wipe. Still need to remove the race from the rotor.
