  1. Yeah, you guys have a good point... Can't believe that didn't even cross my mind... What would i do without u guys!? haha A buddy of mine has a 71 monte, with a vinyl top. There's really no other montes here in El Paso, so hopefully i can get some insight with that one... there's nothing but chevelles, novas, impalas and friggin mustangs. ford...
  2. sounds like hard work... I just LOVE the way montes look with the vinyl top. its a perfect combination. I was advised that I should paint it before putting on the vinyl top, to help prevent rust... I'm planning on going with a cranberry red or candy apple. preferably something a little darker than average red, and really shiny. who knows, maybe once i get paint, i'll stick with the hard top... Can't decide... just checking my options... im a crazy woman.. lol jk
  3. thank you HA! I wish... lol when I bought my car, there was no moldings/emblems..it was completely stripped! there was only the chrome around the windows, thats it..So I'm having a tough time gathering all the emblems (pricey!) and moldings. I'm on the hunt for the "custom" emblems ...
  4. I have a 72, but for some reason i have a 70' front bumper, with the fog lights/ or highlights... i forget. lol Is there anyway that could've been a specific add-on when first bought? anyway back on topic... im checking online for the vinyl top, and im assuming its fabric. so i can't paint it black, i would have to buy a black one, right? I probably will take it to an upholstery to put it one, since i'm stuck at work all day. U think they might be able to correctly fit it, stud points n all?
  5. yeah, the custom emblems are soooo hard to find. I think I might need to have someone make it. Thanks for the heads up! :)I will definitely upload pics. lets see if this works...
  6. Hey guys! Sorry i keep buggin u! I'm blowing up these forums with all my questions...I finally have the $ i need to do what i've been wanting to do with my monte! Anyway here are a few things, I have a '72 custom. And I want to put a black vinyl top. It didn originally come with one, and I'm looking into getting one online, and I need the moldings too. Can u please share where u got yours? a molding set that matches the top... and i can't find the "custom" emblem anywhere! I search for 72 monte carlo custom emblem, and i keep getting customized '72 monte carlos. I would love to get the custom emblem, you would be surprised how many people dont know about the customs, and think my monte is a SS. anyway, gotta get back to work. thanks guys! xoxo
  7. I LOVE the vinyl top look, and foud some on ebay and another on opgi. I cant find anyone in EP ( el paso tx) to install it! anyone here from ep? Have any of you installed your vinyl tops yourselves? If so, do u have any pointers/tips u can share with me? so i paint it all first and then put the vinyl top or the vinyl top first then paint? what kind of adhesive and where did u get ur top? thanks guys
  8. Awesome! Good to go, Bracket just needed to be reinforced, and need some bolts. It's been crazy windy and cold here in EP so i've been taking forever to get under my hood. But its been taken care of since friday, and it feels so good to have my baby back, now to concentrate on the body! thanks again guys
  9. Awesome, thanks everyone. Gonna check it out. Hopefully the cable. just came unhook, that way i wouldn't have to buy another. If only i was that lucky. Haha. Will update. I might double check with. ya'll for the correct cable, if necessary. Thanks again!
  10. Hey guys, I've been having an issue with my car, and i was wondering if you can help me. I was driving my car just fine, on the freeway and then there was heavy traffic. bumper to bumper. Silly me, I thought if I just stay in 1st gear, I might save gas.. **Before i continue, my car has the shifter on the floor, between drivers seat and passenger. Its automatic, with a horseshoe shifter. It has 1, 2, 3, N,R, P. (bottom to top)There is no D. #rd gear works as D. No need to up shift or down shift. ** Anyway I slide the horseshoe down to 1st, and notice i don't feel the gears kick it. so I shift up back to 3rd, and again, I didnt feel the gears kick in. No jump, nothing. As I'm accelerating, i dont feel my car kick into the next gear... instead of the you know, vroooom...clicks to 2nd. vroooooom, then 3rd, vrooom... it was just vroooooooooooooooom... I'm stuck in 1st gear! (lol) . So I exit and pull into a parking lot off the freeway. I shift to P, and my car is still moving. i shift to reverse, and im still going forward in 1st gear. i go back to P, and turn off the car. still moving down hill. so i have to park it with the emergency break. When I start my car, it will only start if im in P (as usual) but when it starts, it kicks forward and drives in 1st gear. , Don't matter if im in P, R, N, 3, 2 1... Luckily I made it home, and my poor baby has been sititng on my drveway since. What could it possibly be? Im thinking shifter cable... But is it shifter cable, or shiffter rod? And which one exactly? Please help, its my daily driver! Here's more info... '72 Monte Carlo Custon engine 402 6.6L tran 350 turbo hydra matic 4 barrel carb automatic, and shifteris on the floor between driver and passenger seat. I can upload pictures, if it helps -Nikki
