Carburator Question

Vinny

Recommended Posts

I am changing my 70 monte from an original 2 to a 4 barrel engine, I have the air cleaner and intake but need a carburator. Can anyone out there with a 350 4 barrel let me know the correct number matching carb that i need to find.(quadrajet) What # of carbs could have originally come on my car. If anyone has one to sell that would be great too.

According to the info I have all Rochester Qjet numbers break down as follows:

All start with either 70 or 170.

Next two digits specify year: 1970 = 40

Next digit specifies 49 state: = 2 or CA = 5

Next digit specifies product id: Chevy = 0,1,2

Last digit specifies transmission: even = auto, odd = manual

I would look on Ebay for one. It took awhile but I finally found one for my car.

Hope this helps.

Doug

The correct # for a '70 model 350-4bbl is 7040202 for a automatic, 7040203 for standard. I think I have a extra 7040202 if your interested. California may use a different number.

I was checking out carburetor options recently here in Tennessee and found that Advanced Auto Parts sells rebuilt Q-jets from Champion for $130. It comes with a one year warranty and goes through quite a thorough quality assurance inspection before rebuilding.
