Guest
Hello everyone, I have had this problem for a couple of years. The Monte has a 350 turbo transmission and it has formed a leak wear the speedometer drive connects to the tail shaft. I have changed the seal and O ring but it still leaks. It appears that the tail shaft opening has enlarged (egged out in the casting). I have tried oversize O rings and even used the blue goop . It time to fix it right does anyone have any ideas? Do I go to a junk yard for a different tail shaft or could a machine shop fix it. Any ideas would help Thanks Jim
alex's72fgmc
go to a junk yard for a replacement tail shaft housing you will pay less. also it seams that you may have more problems involved if it has egg shaped "out of ballance drive shaft out of spec bearings or other internals in the tranny would be my other thought" have you had any weird vibrations from the car or what not? alex
Guest
The leak and the (egg shaped opening) are on the speedometer drive on the side of the tail shaft housing. not on the end of the housing were the drive shaft attaches .i have not noticed any vibration. The previous owner had put a bunch of ATV sealant on it before me and I thought I would fix it right. That when I noticed the egg shaped opening. Again thanks Jim
